Accessibility

Pros:

  • "as a Wheelchair user I could get on HMS Belfast quite easily."
  • "Arrows and directions are clear yet there not being a set one way system allowing you to visit lower decks with ease."
  • "there is a wheelchair friendly ramp from the entrance shop to the ship, and a little 'but slow' lift to get on the the ship."
  • "Wheelchairs are available, along with lifts to some parts of the ship."
  • "There are toilets on deck 2 and a disabled toilet, that is quite a nice size and easy to manoeuvre in."

Cons:

  • "Much of the ship is not accessible."
  • "Not suitable for wheel chair users due to layout of the ship. Also not suitable for people leg problems."
  • "The ladders were very steep and not very safe and it requires you to be slow and steady when going down."
  • "It is not suitable got people with mobility issues as access from deck to deck involves climbing some very steep ladders."
  • "Many areas are only accessible via very steep vertical ladders!"
  • "If you have mobility issues this probably isn’t one where you will be able to see everything."
  • "Less than half of the ship is no entry zone, this maybe to protect historic HMS Belfast."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Amazing experience, loved every minute."
  • "Definitely worth a visit."
  • "Excellent value for money - you'd be rushed to do it all in 3hrs."
  • "For the price of entry, this piece of maritime and military history is well worth the cost."
  • "The price is fair considering the work needed to maintain the ship and the knowledge you gain whilst on board."
  • "Amazing experience, worth every penny."
  • "Fascinating and very enjoyable experience on the Belfast which I think is fair value."

Cons:

  • "It’s expensive for a family, there should be some discounts for a family with four kids…"
  • "Once we got to the ticket office, the place looked quite nice however, in my opinion the ticket prices were a bit pricey."
  • "Tickets cost around 30$, which in my opinion is a bit overpriced."
  • "The entry fee is a bit pricey but otherwise it's a great spot."
  • "But it certainly isn't cheap (£22 for an adult, £11 for a child)."
  • "Definitely not worth £27."
  • "The only negative thing is how expensive it is £91 for five of us."

Family & Child Friendliness

Pros:

  • "Good place to take children."
  • "It's also great for kids though you should mind the steep stairs between the floors of the ship in case children are not quite tall still."
  • "Fantastic place to visit. Took my two year old grandson and he thoroughly enjoyed the ship."
  • "The tour itself is very interesting and has lots of interactive screens that really kept my children engaged."
  • "Probably not so good for really young children, but from 5/6 upwards it’s great."
  • "An amazing day out for kids."
  • "A great day out for the kids and adults alike."

Cons:

  • "Recommended to everyone, sorry with no small babies and without walking difficulties unfortunately."
  • "For me, the ladders are not too friendly to children below the age of 6."
  • "Definitely not a place for claustrophobics. Low ceilings, narrow corridors and passages, can get really hot."
  • "If you have children, be aware that there are minimum height restrictions for accessing the engine rooms due to the ladders."
  • "The engine room can be quite daunting for younger children as they run a noise simulation to show how loud the room was when the ship was at sea."
  • "This would not be a great experience with very little kids or older folks."
  • "Not ideal for really young children but the rest of the ship is."

Experience & Engagement

Pros:

  • "Amazing bit of history."
  • "The inside of the ship is amazing, in spite of it being built in the late 1930s it is a mass of engineering, pipes, machinery, has to be seen to be believed."
  • "Beautiful museum for the most beautiful ship in the world."
  • "Amazing experience, the interior of the ship brings you back to 1940/1950, very detailed."
  • "You really get to explore this mid 20th century warship which floats in the Thames."
  • "This historic warship offers a fascinating glimpse into naval warfare with its well-preserved decks, interactive exhibits, and immersive audiovisual presentations."
  • "Seeing this battleship and the Inside was truly amazing."

Cons:

  • "Great museum, but it is very confusing to navigate around in (as naval ships are)."
  • "Though we did get a bit confused on where we were - maybe there should be a map every now and then to show where you currently are on the ship."
  • "Coffee shop on board wasn't great unfortunately. Cream tea's without any cream, then soup and bread without any bread, but you weren't told this until you had paid."
  • "Firstly there’s nothing really interactive, the dummies are all gone and the staff don’t wear sailor uniforms which is a strange break from the whole experience."
  • "Plus, there was a lack of signs indicating to an exit."
  • "In general very few staff and the ones I saw looked like they were on private tours so could not get their attention."
  • "Not enough signs inside the ship to assist you which direction to follow, therefore you can lose your way and find your self repeating the same part of the ship."
