Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Fantastic fresh seafood with an amazing view whilst dining of the Firth of Forth."
  • "The beef dish was delicious, tender, rich and tasty."
  • "Cant fault any of our 3 course dinner and better still at such great prices for such quality food."
  • "The food however was absolutely exceptional."
  • "The seafood was cooked to perfection, the whole meal was outstanding."
  • "Whole lemon sole in lemon and caper butter, delicious 😋."
  • "The food was amazing starters, mains and cheese board the lot, delicious."

Cons:

  • "For a restaurant that holds itself out to be 'seafood' the seafood tagliatelli was terrible in a disgusting thick white sweet sauce (straight out a can?)."
  • "Scallops were slightly undercooked and all the fancy naff chucked on the plate was not needed."
  • "The mussels were ok, the fish curry had no taste, under seasoned and only tasted of turmeric."
  • "The Squid...looked and tasted just like the frozen stuff you get from supermarkets."
  • "Not good at all. Portions have been reduced in size since we last went and the double fried chips were cold and at least quadruple fried and not edible."
  • "Meal was lovely, apart from long broccoli, al dente? I think it was just dunked in hot water, because it was rock solid and left on plate."
  • "The food seemed more exciting on the menu than it actually was."

Service

Pros:

  • "All staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming, they were also very understanding of the fact we had our dog Molly with us."
  • "Service was quick and friendly. No hovering, just aware of where we were in the meal."
  • "The staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was attentive and timely."
  • "Service was nice and quite fast."
  • "Thanks to the truly lovely staff our Brazilian waitress Diane and waiter Cameron they totally made our day lots of fun great service."
  • "Our meals were served quickly, nicely presented and really tasty."
  • "Staff were very welcoming and helpful even though we were late through traffic on the bridge."

Cons:

  • "The service was bizarre...it felt like the waitress was shouting at you as you were brought your drinks and food."
  • "Very disappointed with service we received during our recent contact."
  • "Waited a few mins for staff to notice us, until we had to get their attention."
  • "We also didn't get lemon with our oysters and had to signal the waitress to ask for some."
  • "The waitress just threw knives and forks on our table and rushed away."
  • "A dinner for 6 did not start well...The waitress left the cutlery in a basket as she had no room to set the table or couldn't be bothered."
  • "When we went back at 4pm we were seated at table then told without any apology or reason there was an hour wait for food."

Atmosphere & Location

Pros:

  • "This is a magical seafood restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff."
  • "Lovely afternoon on the outside terrace, stunning views over the water and of the bridges."
  • "The decking at The Boat House is exceptional with a fantastic view of the three Forth bridges in South Queensferry."
  • "Surroundings were clean and there was a great ambience."
  • "Really nice seafood restaurant with amazing views."
  • "What a lovely position to sit and have dinner overlooking the iconic Forth Rail bridge."
  • "The views from the restaurant out over the river Forth are amazing."

Cons:

  • "Only negative was no lift (that I could find) so difficult if not impossible for disabled or elderly patrons."
  • "The restaurant is down stairs from the High Street so not suitable for disabled guests."
  • "If they are charging for the view, then they should not have put a gazebo outside, because it totally blocks the view for the clients inside."
  • "Parking is on street and is scares during the day and summers."
  • "One big issue is parking. Paid parking is annoying in its self but the maximum you can stay is 1 hour, so not long enough to relax and eat."
  • "However, there was this absurd rule that we couldn't have food outside because it was getting busy and so if we wanted to eat would have to go inside."
  • "Parking is very limited on the high street with parking meters but there is a small free car park at The Binks, just 5mins walk away."

Value

Pros:

  • "Reasonable prices for the quality and taste of the food."
  • "Fantastic view- reasonable prices for the quality and taste of the food. Atmosphere was calm and pleasant."
  • "price was approx £25-30 per head for three courses, food quality was excellent very good value for money."
  • "The views are fantastic and you would expect this to reflect in the price but obviously not."
  • "The menu was wide, with a good selection of seafood, and drinks, and what we had was well portioned, reasonably priced and delicious."
  • "Reasonably priced and a view unsurpassed by many."
  • "Well priced, it's not tourist prices."

Cons:

  • "Mains were good, but we felt overpriced for what they were."
  • "Meal was lovely, apart from long broccoli, al dente? I think it was just dunked in hot water, because it was rock solid and left on plate - pity when you think the entire dish comprised of lemon sole, 3 small boiled potatoes cut in half with three stems of broccoli, for £26!!!"
  • "We didn't stay for a pudding as we felt £8 for a small slice of cheesecake wasn't worth it."
  • "The only down side is that it can be somewhat expensive."
  • "The food was OK but not amazing, so I don't get why the prices are so high."
  • "Underseasoned and unfortunately overcooked was the verdict, and also a rather minimal portion for the price."
  • "Received a voucher as a gift and was saving this to celebrate in Feb. Unfortunately I fell and fractured my ankle so was unable to get about. Contacted today to be told that they could not extend the voucher despite the extenuating circumstances."
