Quality of Food

Pros:

  • "It is by far the nicest fish & chips I’ve ever had."
  • "Very tasty fish and chips! Made to order, fish was fresh tasting and chips were so satisfying."
  • "The fish in both was delicious, the chips good."
  • "The fish is as fresh as it's possible to get as the place is in the harbour, and the fishing boats offload into the fish market, which is just across the road!"
  • "Seriously good fish and chips. Flaky, bright white fish in a crispy batter."
  • "Absolutely beautifully fresh seafood and the chips are absolutely awesome to the point of you know that the potatoes used to make them are very high quality by the great taste."
  • "Honestly the nicest fish and chips I've ever eaten. All food is made to order and it's incredibly fresh."

Cons:

  • "Waited an 1hr for fish and chips and was so disappointed in this once I got them and started eating."
  • "No idea what the food is like because they wouldn't sell us the scampi and chips we wanted to order because they had run out of another kind of fish!"
  • "No taste to the fish, chips not great either."
  • "Fish was tasteless and more batter than fish, chips tasted hard and plasticy."
  • "The batter on the fish was crisply but the fish unfortunately was tasteless and the chips were either twice fried or reheats and unpleasant."
  • "Batter on both cod was soft and soggy and cod was way too soft definitely undercooked."
  • "The fish was bland with soggy batter which needed longer in the fryer, too greasy and left me feeling nauseous."

Service and Efficiency

Pros:

  • "Always worth the wait."
  • "The staff have sorted out a new system to meet social distancing guidelines."
  • "The queue wasn't so bad today. People were getting their orders faster."
  • "Service (esp during this covid time) fast and effective."
  • "The service by the girl with the red hair was great."
  • "Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious."
  • "Very nice friendly staff I'm sure they will look after everyone thats there."

Cons:

  • "All of the staff looked dirty and disheveled."
  • "On a Sunday night it can be queued out of the door and take 20 minutes just to get served, then another 20 to get your food."
  • "Queued for 45 minutes and then had to wait another half hour before the food was ready."
  • "Be prepared to wait. 1h 45 minutes we waited for our food... The monumental wait almost ruined it though."
  • "I know it's Easter Saturday and sunny and we tried to be patient, but we waited 2 hours from the moment we took place in the queue to the moment we got food."
  • "Girl serving looked like she wanted to be anywhere but at work, really grouchy which wasn't a good first impression."
  • "After waiting a total of 50 minutes I questioned the size of haddock, told it was the standard size ...too small."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "And reasonably priced. Grassy bank with bench seating and views across the Firth just 5 min walk away. Best fish n chips in the area!"
  • "Really good food at reasonable prices."
  • "Brilliant that you can get a lobster supper. Lobster is never cheap but this was reasonable."
  • "Its prices could be lower but you pay for size and quality."
  • "Good size portions and well priced."
  • "Great quality, wide range, excellent portion size and not expensive considering the foregoing."
  • "Value for money was brilliant."

Cons:

  • "Food is lovely a little on the Pricey side but the quality lives up to it."
  • "Prices were astronomical though. I appreciate that the fish was fresh and of a very high quality but it was so expensive I could have probably hired a boat, paid for fishing lessons from a local expert, bought all the stuff including a fryer, taken a lease out on a property and still had change from the amount we paid."
  • "It was a little expensive £32 for our takeaway meal & 3 cans of juice."
  • "So £21 for two fish suppers that were rotten. Never again."
  • "Two fish suppers cost £16.80 and contained one slice of fish, slice of lemon, chips and tarter sauce."
  • "A bit pricey at £12 but the portion was large and I was bursting at the seams."
  • "If I'm paying a tenner odd for a supper, I expect 2 bits of fish. That was very disappointing."

Ambience and Location

Pros:

  • "Add the scenic coastal walks all around and the Isla Craig Ailsa Craig Island visible from the bay just a short walk across the road."
  • "Shop is just around the corner from a little park / green area with benches and a picnic table right by the water, perfect for a nice lunch with a view."
  • "As you wait for your freshly made food look out the window and see the seals playing next to the fishing boats."
  • "I watched the sunset in the car park looking out towards arran. Highly recommended."
  • "Great scenery at the harbour too which all adds to the ambience."
  • "We ate overlooking the seafront around the corner. Beautiful!"
  • "It is great as it’s right at the Troon Port/Harbour so a great view all around you."

Cons:

  • "Not to much to look at from the outside, and wee bit hard to find."
  • "Immediate impression was place looked rundown and not maintained."
  • "Grubby, tiny little place, sadly in need of a good clean, so are the serving staff."
  • "The surface under the serving area was disgusting and looks like it had not been cleaned in weeks, everywhere you touch you stick to it."
  • "If you like waiting in a long queue for awful fish and chips for 20 minutes outside in a freezing cold wind tunnel in the posterior end of nowhere on an industrial dock this is the destination for you."
  • "Sadly after waiting 15 mins we were given what amounted to the remnants of the frying basket as our portion was taken by a customer in front of us who changed his order."
  • "This place appears to be run by youngsters who are not interested in providing good food or a great service."
