Atmosphere & Setting

Pros:

  • "Due to the fact this pub was an old church it has an airy feel about it."
  • "The most elegant pub I have been into. An old converted gothic stone church."
  • "What a fantastic setting. Set in an old church with all the stained glasses windows and structural architecture."
  • "Truly unique vibe in converted church. Dramatic inside but also relaxed and slightly different."
  • "This is very attractive building .re claimed church and pleasant pub I enjoy going on every visit .amazing interia design of ceiling."
  • "Such an interesting place. A lovely bar inside a beautiful old church."
  • "Wonderful atmospheric pub in an old church, very picturesque."

Cons:

  • "It takes advantage of the settings which are lovely but the experience is very poor."
  • "However, there is not designated smoking area so you have to go outside the front."
  • "The church it's self, in which the pub is set is beautiful and a modern renovation has been mostly sympathetic to anything above 6 foot high but I'd definitely describe this place as a 'sticky pub' catering to drinking and sport."
  • "Is also very cold, which I kind of get as it is an old church but it is unpleasantly cold."
  • "Just don't bother. Yes, the photos look good, but it's really grim inside."
  • "strange how its always empty here but spoons next door is full."
  • "The pool table is a mess... and they charge £1 per game."

Service & Staff

Pros:

  • "Great service especially from the young lady behind the bar (23.07.22) who pulled some strings to allow our order to be fulfilled when the kitchen was under staffed."
  • "Superb food, a very chill atmosphere and the service is first class!"
  • "Staff very polite and friendly with great service."
  • "Staff were friendly and helpful."
  • "Staff were super friendly and cannot fault the place."
  • "The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we wanted and needed!"
  • "Very friendly staff welcome you in and just a simple pub perfectly done in a unique place."

Cons:

  • "We waited 50 minutes for our food, and saw another customer ask where there food was to be rudely snapped at by the bar lady."
  • "Dirty tables and toilets, poorly managed, beer tasted of eggs I think I could quite honestly run the place single handedly better."
  • "Really slow, poor service. Food was really average, cibattas hard, lettuce wilted on side and jack fruit nachos Luke warm."
  • "Disgusting behaviour that I would expect from drunken louts not a staff member cleaning tables, I certainly won’t be back too old for that type of hassle."
  • "An interesting pub in an old church, that's the one star given, the rest of the pub is a disappointment, sticky tables and menus, uncomfortable seating and disinterested staff."
  • "When we spoke to the bar tenders about a nearly hour wait they said it was coming but when we spoke to them again telling them only half the order was here, manager was rude."
  • "Used to come to duke and Rye all the time and since it’s changed managers the new manager with the red hair in a pony tale is SO rude."

Food & Drink

Pros:

  • "Stopped in for an early dinner after shopping at the Christmas market. This chef know how to cook a steak!"
  • "Food was good as expected."
  • "Food was lovely and very reasonably priced."
  • "The Ringwood 49r is beyond excellent."
  • "Vegan cauliflower wings were really tasty though."
  • "Food was great, cooked to perfection and plenty of it."
  • "Extremely friendly team and food was excellent."

Cons:

  • "The food was OK. Certainly not worth the price."
  • "Food and beer we're OK, but if our experience was anything to go by, steer well clear on Karaoke night."
  • "The foods a bit 'bog standard pub fayre', which is ok if that's what you want, but it's a shame not to be more original with food when in this fantastic and special building."
  • "Food not that great, more issues over quality of food rather than the cooking."
  • "Beer was good, but the food took too long and really wasn't worth waiting for."
  • "We ordered Tacos and chicken strips and it was awful and far too expensive for a few tortilla chips and a few spoons of sauces just thrown on chicken was dry and just as awful."
  • "Food is worse than average."

Accessibility & Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "There are areas that are level enough for wheelchairs."
  • "Beautiful place, mostly wheelchair accessible, no disabled bathroom, but great selection of food and beer, and a cozy, homey atmosphere."
  • "the toilets in there are very clean."
  • "Highly highly recommend especially if you are a dog owner. Excellent pub, very very dog friendly."
  • "Beautiful place, mostly wheelchair accessible, no disabled bathroom."
  • "Great location in the Centre of the City, Fantastic setting in an Old Friary Church."
  • "A stunning dog-friendly pub in a historical building, with a nice menu and plenty of character."

Cons:

  • "The toilets are up steps."
  • "Toilets not been cleaned in months maybe years..."
  • "Oh and the toilets were horrible and smelt absolutely disgusting, in desperate need of a good clean!!"
  • "Stunning venue, shame food wasn't served until 1pm. No toilet paper in 2 of the 3 loos and it didn't look as if tables and floor had been cleaned."
  • "Food was a long wait for mediocre quality."
  • "Disappointed by the 'vegan option available' nachos. £7 is crazy for a plate of Doritos, a spoonful of salsa, and a handful of jalapenos."
  • "Indifferent staff barely old enough to sell booze."
