Park Amenities
Pros:
"Great family park and dog friendly too, cafe located within the park as well as a boating lake mini steam train and a play area for the kids."
"Fantastic sea side summer park, take a picnic, walk your dog or go on a paddleboat."
"A lovely seaside park with boating lake, refreshment cafe, steam engines for rides every day in summer and winter weekends, a bandstand and lovely strolls."
"Beautiful place any season of the year. Children love the park with the ducks and swans, train ride and Minchella's cafe."
"The park itself is excellent it has plenty to do for all the family."
"Very nice place for children and adults. Large outdoors play areas for kids. There is a lake and many benches and places to eat."
"This park is always very clean and welcoming, its always well looked after."
Cons:
"The only negative was the amount of litter around the park, particularly in the water feature & the bins around the lake were full."
"First time I've visited for about three years and it has definitely gone into decline."
"Although a lovely park... walking around the edge of the lake was disgusting... a regular clean of bird fowling would be more than welcome."
"BUT the water fall near to the band stand is a total pigsty, full of algae, rubbish, shopping baskets, bottles, furniture, Disgusting."
"The 'lake' does need a bit of TLC though and some anti-littering notices would probably work a treat."
"I really think southtyneside Council needs to sort kids play areas. Used to be really nice kids play area but on what I've just seen is shocking. There's rat's running allover sandpits and other play equipment."
"Got there around 10.00am nothing open. Park lake was a weird colour as if a large amount of something had been added toilets inside park need a lot of attention."
Accessibility & Cleanliness
Pros:
"Its also just a stone's throw away from the fairground or the beach, whichever you prefer."
"This is one of my favourite spots to walk the dog."
"If the park, restaurant, leisure centre, theatre is not really your scene, take an extra few steps and you will be on the beachfront with its golden sands, fun fair, or coastal cliffs."
"Public toilets and a disabled toilet with baby change."
"Wheelchair friendly."
"The open grassland is well maintained with the surrounding beds in good condition, trimmed and cleaned."
"Parking is available along the side of the park for free."
Cons:
"Parking isn't easy but worth trying."
"The toilets were in need of a clean and a little run down."
"Disabled toilets were filthy and I was not able to get in with my mobility scooter and it was one of the small ones."
"The only negative was the rubbish in the waterfall at the top of the park."
"It's a lovely park, unless you have older kids. The play area for bigger children has been out of action for a while now awaiting maintenance."
"Got there around 10.00am nothing open. Toilets inside park need a lot of attention."
"Very clean and litter free, but toilet facilities are a bit dated."
Food & Beverage Options
Pros:
"Minchellas in the park have some excellent icecream, coffees and light bites on offer at good prices."
"The cafe was lovely, had a good range of food and drinks available, reasonably priced too."
"Minchella's does great fish & chips, and fabulous ice cream."
"The cafe has the best fresh cream scones I have ever tasted."
"Minchella's ice cream place directly next to it with delicious food."
"They have an amazing cafe as well for quick bites."
"The cafe near the lake, which has swan pedal boats for rental for £10 for four people, has a vast choice of food and drink to enjoy."
Cons:
"At the time of our visit all doors were open and it was a big wind draft in the restaurant."
"Sadly they've not been operating recently due to covid."
"Come to the park on an unfortunate day, 3/4 of the place was closed due to earlier rain."
"Only loses a star due to unmaintained loos - similar parks I have been to have covid marshals and cleaning and distancing between users, no one was enforcing masks indoors."
"It's a busy place and it's nice to get out in this current climate and people just getting on with life as if this covid didn't exist... large groups of people even the amusement park was very busy and best avoided if you wish to social distance."
"I wasn't happy about the scruffy person who dumped a nappy in the men's toilet especially when the park has baby changing facilities."
"Only thing that spoilt the day was when we realised we had insufficient parking on the cars & had to power walk back to ferry before we were clamped."
