Family and Dog-Friendly Environment

Pros:

  • "Great place for children and dogs, there's loads of great places for your pooch to have a splash around, some excellent spots to have a picnic and some nice scenic walks."
  • "Beautiful Country Park - Excellent place for the kids (and adults) to explore!! Dog friendly - lovely scenic river walks and places for the kids to swim and plodge : )"
  • "This is a fabulous family and dog friendly walk."
  • "Great place to go with the kids (and dog)."
  • "Love this place. Lots of walks with plenty shade."
  • "Great play park for the kids, and good walks through the woods searching for the ogre, reasonably priced cafe selling selection of ice creams. A great day out."
  • "Really beautiful place to visit. Lots of well maintained paths and a great play area for children near the car park."

Cons:

  • "Nowadays it is too busy, which is a shame. Even the overspill car park seems full a lot of the time."
  • "Really lovely place but totally spoilt by so many inconsiderate people letting their dogs charge all over the place."
  • "Couldn't let my toddler walk next to me because he kept getting approached by big, boisterous dogs."
  • "Be mindful of dog mess - a lot of dog walkers use the place and my daughter stood in poo within 20 minutes :-("
  • "Nice walking and wildlife full woods let down only by irresponsible dog owners who have no command of their animals."
  • "Whilst I would love to give more stars, every time I visit here (which isn't that often) I'm left disappointed. This is mainly due to the dogs....or more correctly the dog owners!"
  • "Also noticed a lot of dog poop not being picked up."

Parking and Accessibility

Pros:

  • "It has plenty of parking,(free for the first hour), and a cafe/visitor centre."
  • "A lovely place to walk around whether that be by yourself or with family. The parking prices are really reasonable but you can use your Northumberland Car Parks dial too!"
  • "Plenty of parking."
  • "Parking is free for the first hour (then £1.60 2hrs plus more options for later) - you still need a ticket displayed for the free hour, just press the green button on the P&D machine."
  • "Plessey Woods is a gem of a place within easy reach of many of the communities in South East Northumberland and Tyneside. Parking is free and usually sufficient spaces with overflow car parking available on busier days."
  • "Plenty of car parking and an ice cream van, and a good place to walk the dogs though."
  • "Free parking with Toilets."

Cons:

  • "The car park prices are ridiculous for what's on offer £2 for 2 hours, greed."
  • "Car park is a cut crazy."
  • "Woods nice but be warned charging for parking again, change only no modern facility to pay via phone."
  • "You have to pay to park... Plenty of spaces available."
  • "Only gripe is the newly introduced parking charge."
  • "The only thing that lets it down now, hence 3 stars is you now have to pay to park."
  • "Given that you have to pay up to £3 to park then the least you would expect is a toilet."

Natural Beauty and Facilities

Pros:

  • "I love this place.. lovely to get out in the beautiful woodland.. Nice walk and its great to be in touch with nature.. totally relaxes the mind especially when times get tough."

  • "Plenty wildlife although I haven't seen deer I have been fortunate enough to see red squirrels."
  • "Beautiful hiking trails leading to Morpeth via the scenic route."

Cons:

  • "The toilets aren't great that's the only downfall. You kinda don't want to touch anything when you go in... however! Not the worst I've seen."
  • "Toilets are poor standard of cleaning and could improve if they had contract cleaners in during the busy periods."
  • "Some of the wooden exhibits are run down, or have been removed or defaced over the years.....sad."
  • "The cafe isn't big enough and should sell more sandwich, toasties things like that instead of cakes and ice creams as it gets cold there."
  • "Nice during the summer months but it is just too MUDDY to enjoy at present.gravelled paths covered in mud and off track so bad slipping and sliding all over."
  • "It does get rather muddy so dress appropriately when it's been raining."
  • "Very muddy in places at this time of year, especially by the river."
