Cinema

Pros:

  • "The newly refurbished cineworld cinema complex on the 2nd floor has over 12 main screens, and IMHO is the best cinema in the region!"
  • "Cineworld was clean and tidy really enjoyable shame about the carparking didn't realise its free but need to get it validated by the Cineworld staff."
  • "The cinema is so nice, it has variety of snacks and are really good for a considerable price."
  • "The cinema is amazing. Tickets are not overpriced at all and the snacks are cheap."
  • "They have many different films I just seen Thor love and thunder with my friends and it was great staff are helpful and if your not sure about something ask them."
  • "Visited The Gate to watch a film at the Cineworld cinema. Chose to view a movie on the ScreenX and it proved a good choice."
  • "Cinema is probably the best thing about this place. Can't really comment on the restaurants cos I've never been in any of them."

Cons:

  • "I have no issues with the cinema and its facilities but there is one individual employee who has wasted both my own and my 3 friends time."
  • "It's been literally years since I was last here and boy has it gone down hill. Gone was the bustling vibe, lots of people wanting to eat or visit the cinema."
  • "This is dying a slow death. Most places to eat have pulled out and have relocated to Eldon square. The only thing left is a shoddy looking run down cinema and a couple of bars."
  • "Went too the cinema on the top floor, not acceptable the state it was in I felt as if I was walking in too a building site."
  • "The cinema has sound issues on half the screens and uncomfortable seats."
  • "Don't waste your time in going here unless you want to go to Cineworld."
  • "God awful place, should never have been built. Called the Gate, but creates a very effective barrier between Eldon Square and Chinatown."

Parking

Pros:

  • "Plenty of parking around the area.. well worth a visit!!!"
  • "Clean & tidy and has nice staff. A big car park make it more easy for shopping."
  • "I've only used the car park recently but it's very convenient and relatively inexpensive."
  • "Always busy and has a large car park on the back."
  • "A large car park is attached which makes for convenient access."
  • "Went to the cineworld cinema and they had an offer on. Buy some food at one of the restaurants and watch a film and you get 6 hours of free parking at the gate."
  • "The place has ample parking place."

Cons:

  • "Cineworld was clean and tidy really enjoyable shame about the carparking didn't realise its free but need to get it validated by the Cineworld staff."
  • "Also Includes a Confusing and costly underground car park."
  • "Parking here is infuriating no idea what would happen if there was a fire every door we found was locked had to walk out the car ramp in the end really not safe."
  • "Unfortunately no parking outside but nearby parking available at reasonable charge!!"
  • "Plenty of parking, but the spaces are very tight increasing the chances of a bump or scrape."
  • "Car park can be a nightmare, maybe not the best for closed spaces being underground."
  • "Very disappointing. It's not a gate. It's a place of recreational retreat. Houses a cinema, restaurants, bars and a casino. No gates or gate manufacturers of any sort. 1 star"

Restaurants and Bars

Pros:

  • "Fun modern atmosphere, fresh clean look, lots of recreational places to go, including a spoons, buffets, pizza and casinos."
  • "Amazing place! I come over to Newcastle twice a year! This is a must visit great restaurant places, cinema on the top floor and fantastic bars! Highly recommended visit!"
  • "Excellent place if u want to have a pint or something to eat. Reasonable prices in most establishments."
  • "So cool! There's a Nandos, Pizza Hut and a wetherspoons. We didn't eat at any but they looked decent. There's a place called control pad that the younger ones can play on PC's for an hourly fee, and it looked popular."
  • "Great venue in the heart of Newcastle, plenty of restaurants and bars as well as a cinema for the family to do, and for the adults, aspers casino is open 24/7."
  • "Love the place. Eating from around the world many different types to choose, eat as much as you can."
  • "One of the best places to go for a meal, Zazabazaar being about the best places, £9.99 for all you can eat from their open meals."

Cons:

  • "Once a great place. Sadly now as many of the food places are closing down."
  • "The location seems to now have been transformed into simply a cinema and drinking centre, with its only redeeming features being the bars."
  • "The exclusive dining experience is reduced to a handful of struggling high street chains, with many units lying empty."
  • "Allot to do here, went to the nightclub they have here, went to Pizza Hut (Too expensive)."
  • "The restaurants are all the usual chains, the smaller restaurants never seem to last."
  • "Used to be buzzing this place but it’s lacking excitement and entertainment, needs a posh food place too for date nights."
  • "We had food in th Weatherspoons there. Table tops were filthy."

Ambiance and Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "It was lovely getting into this place as a whole because it was so beautiful and the security officers were very pleasant."
  • "A pleasant atmosphere. I love this place."
  • "Great place to partake in a multitude of things from a pint in the weatherspoons to Pizza hut and if you fancied some fabulous interactive gaming too."
  • "It's in a beautiful, modern and clean building."
  • "Pretty wheelchair user friendly. Lots to do on a budget here too."
  • "Nice variety of food and drink places, big cinema upstairs and seating areas with oversized traditional games that’s free to use in the central area on each floor."
  • "The building is incredibly modern and simply beautiful both inside and outside."

Cons:

  • "No matter what time of day or night you go here it's full of drunks, people hanging around smoking outside, arguing loutish behaviour, not a place to take children."
  • "Impersonal. No atmosphere. Too much plastic around, no pub conviviality."
  • "The surroundings are now rough round the edges with out of order tape, draped like tinsel over cash machines, lifts, chairs."
  • "There were a lot of young groups of kids standing around causing trouble with no security moving them on making the atmosphere of the whole venue daunting and uneasy."
  • "A cavernous monstrosity seemingly designed to extract money from the wallets of people seeking superficial pleasures."
  • "The gate feels a bit like the film The Grand Hotel Budapest, its seen its glory days fade but still has character and charm."
  • "And it's usually full of charvas or drunks."
