Tour Experience
Pros:
"Highly recommend. Barry the guide was great."
"Definitely a place to vist and you wouldn't be disappointed."
"Amazing tour with plenty of information."
"It was a great experience."
"Enjoyed the rope making exercise as part of the cavern tour!"
"Really interesting place to visit. The guide was excellent and very informative."
"Fab xmas carol concert in brilliant atmospheric cavern entrance which is the largest in UK."
Cons:
"Because there isn't much to see I would advice being near the guide, although I would say you do end up feeling disappointed."
"The actual tour is short, pretty uninformative and came away feeling that we had quite simply chosen the wrong cave to visit that day."
"The first 15 minutes of the tour is how to make ropes which was alright but because I've seen it a few times in the area and it was busy because of the rain and loud kids it could have been removed."
"The price was expensive for what it is, which is a barren set of caves with very little to see."
"Not worth it and don't bring young kids in If all you want is to go in a cave."
"It's a shame the cave trip was more about chat and less about seeing the cavern."
"The speedwell cavern alongside the peak cavern is an unbelievably bad experience."
Booking and Accessibility
Pros:
"The cave has its own pay and display car park and you then have about 200 yards of gently undulating walking to do to the entrance."
"Some parts fairly acceble but I'd check before you go."
Cons:
"£39 for a family of four. How outrageous!!!"
"You have to book on line which is fair enough but as the booking system never loads up exactly how this is to be achieved is a mystery."
"The ticket kiosk bloke was rude and a little sexist towards one of our group and seemed quite grumpy, possibly just having a bad day."
"Unfortunately on our trip nearest loos were approx. 300mtrs away. Portaloos needed as near as possible as soon as possible."
"Also all the signs and information boards need to be updated as they are very faded."
"I remember a time when it was free to enter but now everything in castleton is highly priced it's not a place I enjoy visiting anymore."
Facilities and Extras
Pros:
"Interesting rope making demo. Knowledgable guide through vast caverns."
"Picked up a few pieces of blue John from the souvenir shops en route!"
"Spectacular cavern with industrial heritage still visible."
"We visited for the carol concert with brass band which happens on December weekends each year in the entrance cavern."
"A breathtaking cave entrance."
Cons:
"The entrance as stated is so large it was at one time lived in by an entire community making rope."
"Interesting tour. A little spoiled by the entrance area being set up for a concert in the evening and our tour guide thinking he was hilarious but actually just insulting people."
"The only downside is you can no longer go the full length of the cave as I did in my youth."
