Park Facilities

Pros:

  • "The recent make over was a success, New mowing regime allows for natural grass areas for wildlife."
  • "The lake has been modernised and rebuilt and has a new railing all around it for safety and new fish stock."
  • "Lovely park first opened in the 1930's. Large open green areas with many trees."
  • "Playground is of good quality, dog friendly and overall a clean park."
  • "Clean and tidy, a decent play area for younger kids and plenty of space for the bigger kids to kick a ball or the dog to chase one."
  • "The parks used by various members of the community with some courses, boot camps available."
  • "Park was neat, with a lot of flowers as well."

Cons:

  • "Wish something could be done with the top part as once you've walked round the lake which dosnt take long, it would be nice to have another choice."
  • "Not many places to shelter around this park if it starts to rain."
  • "Seriously seriously needs more park wardens to control the teenagers at night its nightmare."
  • "Only disappointment the zip wire was out of action. Otherwise a perfect day."
  • "Only pity is the large number of irresponsible dog owners letting dogs run riot running up to young children and fouling the grass and not clearing it away."
  • "Last time went jogging there I got body slammed from behind by an over exited dog. Pulled my back out. Ouch."
  • "However there are issues with dogs being off the lead and on the other side of the park than their owners which can make it tricky to take children there."

Parking & Accessibility

Pros:

  • "Parking was free and decent parking."
  • "First and foremost there is a huge free car park that stays open until 9pm during the summer!"
  • "Found this park purely by chance having diverted off the M5 and looking to cut across to Shrewsbury en route to Wales. Very impressed - easy to park at no cost."
  • "Family friendly park... lots of parking available. Waterpark in the summer and the scenery is beautiful and you will definitely want to take some photos of the ducks."
  • "We parked for free on the road alongside on a very busy summer afternoon."
  • "Easy to park just inside the big gates off the Island."
  • "Managed to find a car parking space which was good."

Cons:

  • "The parking space is small so Jump on a bus."
  • "Parking can be limited in spaces in the main entrance but if you drive round the back of the park there's a car park there and on road parking too."
  • "Parking is a nightmare, not enough spaces so often forced to park on nearby roads. Social distancing is non existent unfortunately. Despite large open spaces."
  • "Only slight downside is that it can be hard to find a space to park and there is no obvious walking loop that takes you around the park."
  • "When darkness falls, parts of the park are extremely dark and have no sensor lighting even outside the council health coaching centre, this can be a security risk."
  • "Only negative is parking were council offices use the spaces for them and not park visitors ... So this is restricted."
  • "Really nice place just a shame parking is quite limited for the size of the park and one way in and out."

Cafe & Amenities

Pros:

  • "First class cafe too Reasonable prices and friendly staff."
  • "The cafe is also really nice with indoor and outdoor seating."
  • "A wonderful experience, lots of stalls and the Santa trail was so much fun for the children."
  • "Grab a coffee from the cute shop, walk around the lake, lick an ice cream sprawled on the grass."
  • "A very pleasant, large park with a huge lake full of active bird life."
  • "Great as a place to meet up with friends as the children are kept busy, the surroundings are nice, and the tea rooms are lovely too and take into consideration dogs - providing shelter outdoors and water bowls."
  • "It also offers a café to have a bite to eat or just to have a cup of tea and a slice of cake."

Cons:

  • "Shame the public toilets next to the park are not open all the time."
  • "However, the toilets need to be open later as in the summer people are still out and enjoying themselves."
  • "Some of the waste bins were overflowing and could do with clearing."
  • "The parkland is fine but sadly lacking in facilities. Also the toilets were a disgrace."
  • "The edges of the lake by the railings could do with a bit of a tidy up as lots of nettles and brambles."
  • "Wonderful park and facilities in a nice area but I nearly despaired waiting to buy coffee at the delightful cafe. There is only one serving position but four people milling around in the background."
  • "The café is very overpriced though! I paid £3.10 for a takeaway coffee the other day shocking!"
