Park Facilities
Pros:
"Children's play area with lots of different things to do."
"The park itself is beautiful. Definitely worth a visit."
"It's a wonderful open space with people using it for fun and recreation."
"Great park for a walk or to relax in the sun... Interesting to see the old ruin walls and mosaics... Quite a bit of history to take in... Water park and play parks for kids."
"The park is very clean and has a water park for kids as well as public soccer pitches and cricket areas."
"Beautiful lake with so many birds nesting and other wildlife, a huge play park, large paddling pool, a wildlife garden, cafe, majestic trees."
"There's something to do for everyone, so a great day out for the whole family."
Cons:
"Prone to flooding round the foot paths when there is any amount of rain. Disappointed with the upkeep of the lakes."
"Parking is a nightmare on hot sunny days."
"It's a little overgrown these days and looks more like a park."
"The only downside is there being one toddler swing which is a bit of a pain on a busy day."
"This should be the best place to bring the family in the area. Unfortunately the local council has let it get into such a state with the lake which has needed dredging for years and the flooding which hasn't been properly tidied up."
"The fireworks were repetitive. I do not recommend fireworks here. Poor!!!!"
"One downside, gets flooded quite often which makes it quite bad, when public toilet get flooded."
Parking
Pros:
"Good car parking, with two hours free parking at the sports centre, extra time with pay and display."
"Free parking after 6.30pm Monday to Sunday."
"A bonus is that the carpark (very cheap) is 2 minutes from the playground."
"Nice spacious park, and a good spacious car park."
"Parking is free for the 1st 2 hours on the Westminster lodge side but on the Roman Museum side you have to pay from the outset."
"Parking was plentiful and there were disabled spaces nearest the visitors center and toilets."
"You have to pay a small amount to park but the car park is fairly large which is good."
Cons:
"Dreadful, car parking in a car park where you pay the price of a car park ticket plus a £50 ticket for not recognizing an extremely badly painted parking bay."
"Really nice new park and 2 hours free parking if you park in the leisure center. Only marked it down a star because it's very busy - with tier 4 lockdown locally everyone has the same idea and the play area is rammed, coffee shop open for takeaways but the queue is huge and it's hard not to get close to people."
"The car park was full and so no spaces which meant parking outside."
"Night mare parking no space so I gave up went to Clarence Park."
"The only downside is parking. The main car park is too small and there is no parking near its all resident parking it took us and others about an hour to find somewhere with other people giving up and going home."
"A dreadful experience i came from Manchester a long way to visit the Roman ruins and i left feeling very annoyed after paying for Parking only to return to find a £50 parking fine for not parking correctly in a very poorly painted parking bay."
"Parking is really tricky as you need to be extremely lucky to get it."
Accessibility & Location
Pros:
"Within easy walking distance of the town centre, and right next to the museum."
"City centre is only five to ten minutes walk."
"Decent cafe, parking, public toilets, and the town, cathedral and various pubs are just a moment's walk away."
"Always great for a walk, fascinating Roman museum just in the carpark and surrounded by the lovely St.Albans with plenty if nice restaurants and places to have a drink as well as the view of a stunning cathedral."
"Parking is available in two area and it’s a short walk into St Albans itself."
"Always a great place to come for some light exercise and fresh air."
"The park is clean and has many facilities."
Cons:
"It's possible to get a drink or an ice cream and sit quietly to enjoy a period together."
"The lake and surrounding area have gone downhill since a few years ago."
"The park as a whole is huge so adults can walk or bike around."
"The lake is badly flooded - one side is impassable on the path."
"The park is lovely but the children's playground has been lamentably neglected."
"The only let down I found is that the children's play area has now moved to where the tennis courts was and everything inside of the play area seems to be for children under 10 years old."
"Lovely big park with plenty of facilities, but the whole area around the lake is disgusting - covered with wildfowl faeces both on the path and the surrounding grass."
