Staff and Service
Pros:
"The Sun is one of my favourite local pubs and I’m a regular visitor. It has great management and friendly staff."
"Matt was the best and helped me get home safely and get wifi, I had a New Zealand phone and he helped me connect it using his own SIM card."
"Richie and his team couldn`t be more accommodating and wish them all the success they deserve."
"Lovely building. Good range of drinks. Good ambience. Friendly and attentive staff."
"Very spacious with lots of seating indoors as well as outside. Great views of the pond, always a friendly staff team."
"The staff are all super friendly as well."
"Staff were friendly, a good selection of beers and the roast was a proper roast."
Cons:
"Staff didn’t seem to care - the place was busy (god knows why) and dirty."
"Staff claimed kitchen was close on a Sunday afternoon, plenty of people eating around us."
"The man who served me (I think he had an Australian or American accent I couldn’t tell and had brown hair) was extremely unfriendly and didn’t say thank you or even smile once while serving me."
"Called in for a drink with family to be left standing at the bar for ten minutes, before we got served; by a rude obnoxious girl who behaved like she was above pulling a pint."
"Very rude staff member on the door as I walked in on Saturday 25 th October at about 1 pm."
"Unnecessarily rude and bad attitude from one of the staff team."
"Rudest staff I’ve met in a long time."
Food Quality
Pros:
"Best pie - I travel from east London to The Sun quite regularly to have a pie or their roast, it’s soooo nice."
"The food is very good here also. Very reasonably priced."
"Got served at the bar by someone called Juliana and she made some wonderful tommys margaritas."
"The Sunday roast was good, but they take forever to bring the food."
"Food is great."
"An amazing meal with my partner. Starters Scotch egg was eggselent. Goats Cheese Salad, was superb."
"The scotch egg was a great start. Fish and chips was the highlight."
Cons:
"Ordered a fish dish with king prawns but instead I got a super dried out piece of fish and 3 tiny shrimp."
"Mitchell and Butler need to revise their menu... the gravy was far too rich and it upset two other diners with us."
"The chicken was extremely dry and the potatoes were cold."
"Had a visit today and have not eaten such a bad burger for a very long time."
"Beyond disappointing - food and service was terrible."
"Food was below average (both Sunday roast and mains) and one of the mains arrived 20 minutes after everyone received theirs."
"A bit disappointed with some of the dishes-I had a really oily salad and one of the steak sandwiches was cold upon arrival."
Ambience and Location
Pros:
"Lovely large traditional pub that hasn't sold it's soul to the glass and brushed aluminum look."
"A nice and excellently located pub opposite Barnes Pond."
"The place is super cosy."
"A great pub for summer and winter."
"Lovely interior with nooks and crannies."
"Such a cozy pub! It's perfect for both a date night or a family lunch with all the children."
"A delightful 'Tardis' pub, deceivingly large inside with many nooks and crannies in which to settle and enjoy something from the excellent range of beers and wines."
Cons:
"One half of the pub was really noisy, as there isn't enough soft furnishings."
"Okay pub, weird smell inside near the bar though many locals agree, foods okay, beer is always flat though and when charging £6 a pint it’s quite scandalous to be honest."
"The ghastly smell upon entering is undiminished from earlier visits."
"It was very crowded in the Sun Inn - we had to settle for a table which turned out to be directly below the air conditioner."
"Location overlooking a pond, but I don't think one can really enjoy the location since there's fairly busy road which is a bit of a downer if seated outdoors."
"Wanted to stop for a drink on Sunday afternoon... Didn't really get the feeling that children were welcome."
"Not a great time on a 'Sunday visit here, mainly due to a really unfriendly welcome."
Value and Pricing
Pros:
"It’s well worth the money, trust me."
"The food is very good here also. Very reasonably priced."
"On Wednesdays you can get a great deal being burger and pint/glass of wine for £11.95."
"Very good quality price!"
"Food was tasty and good value with nice selection of real ales too."
"The food was delicious and the portion sizes perfect."
"We just had one of the best family roasts we have had in a long time!!"
Cons:
"A bit pricier than other local options."
"Okay pub, weird smell inside near the bar though many locals agree, foods okay, beer is always flat though and when charging £6 a pint it’s quite scandalous to be honest."
"Sunday roasts aren't cheap, are they! Although it wasn't as expensive as The Crown in Twickenham, I still think £16.50 is a lot of outlay for a bit of meat and a handful of vegetables."
"I will vote with my feet on The Sun and search elsewhere for better value, service, and food."
"Staff in this pub are extremely rude, poorly trained, and serve drinks in toxic glasses."
"Really disappointed with the kids menus. Their burgers was size for a 1 year old not a 10 year old."
"I cannot believe the rudeness I encountered yesterday 24 th October 20."
