Shopping Experience
Pros:
"A bewildering array of vintage clothing, independent jewelers, toys, a great ice cream bar, quirky ornaments a tribute to Frank Sidebottom and much more."
"The best place in town for quirky, alternative clothing, art work and other items."
"Such a brilliant place to find unique items."
"An iconic shopping place in the heart of the city. unusual and unique items, vintage culture and music are a massive part of Aflecks and give it its indie vibe."
"There are so many different shops and such a massive range of things you can buy, there’s definitely something for everyone!"
"Great place for variety, alternatives, great food, restrooms and friendly people."
"They cater to the LGBTQ2+, nerds, goths, anime fanatics, and everyone in-between."
Cons:
"There is a handful of genuinely great shops in Affleck's but the rest are all copies of each other and the stock seems a bit naff and overpriced for what it is."
"Some shops are better than others though. The lady with the art store was really rude to us and we ended up not buying anything from her."
"The relative I was with insisted we ate here and it was the worst food I have ever experienced."
"Most of the jewellery is cheap metals though, it's rarely gold or silver."
"It seems to have gone downhill recently. I used to love going to afflecks and ide leave and be amazed at some of the stuff Ide seen, however recently I've been less than impressed and walked out feeling meh."
"The only downside to Affleck's is how hot it always is in the building..."
"The prices were also very VERY high in some stores. I understand vintage clothes are old but it's not a reason to sell them that high especially if you're a thrift shop."
Accessibility
Pros:
"They have a lift but I don’t imagine my friend would enjoy himself there, there’s not much space for his wheelchair in most shops."
"Brilliant shop, contains lots of stalls, etc. Selling all weird and unusual items, second hand vintage clothing, old vinyl records, art work. Dream catcher,s, fossil,s and gems etc. Tons to see, and a cafe. Lifts and wheelchair ramps, ring bell to get someone to bring a ramp, to get you in to the building, or ask the stall holders near the front door."
"The gender-neutral toilets were good to see."
"Came with friends and my partner who's a wheelchair user. The staff were brilliant at getting us a ramp to get in."
"Every store holder was friendly some offering discount as they'd had a good day. Even chatting while I went to the loo. Such a fab non judgmental place."
"NB lift is to the left of main corner entrance."
"The staff could not be more helpful, from getting the ramp and lift ready to all the shops we visited."
Cons:
"Having the pram with us was hard work as there are a lot of stairs."
"Access is limited and you have to phone for someone to bring out a ramp so you can get in the store."
"It's contain 3 floors, there is elevator and stairs too.. just take the stairs so you can enjoy by the stickers and posters that on the wall."
"Afflecks is a great place and I love the quirkiness and the safe space for queerness, but the access needs improvement."
"Reliance on stairs could inhibit disabled access to upper floors."
"I suffer with chronic nerve pain down one leg and there are a lot of stairs, and because it is many independent shops I wasn't sure where to ask for help."
"Disabled access poor, has a lift once inside the building, but 2 sets of steps to get into the building."
Customer Service
Pros:
"The greatest sales staff in the World."
"Love this little shopping experience. Alternative to the mainstream and super friendly to all."
"The independent sellers in the building are all super friendly."
"They were happy to accommodate walk-ins and they were super lovely."
"The clothes bit on the top floor is nice and has a lovely gentleman working on one of the stalls who was really happy to help."
"Every shop assistant I've ever had the pleasure of speaking to has been lovely, informative and not shy of a good chat."
"The staff/owners are always helpful and friendly, those I have interacted with have always been ready to help in any way, offering advice and information."
Cons:
"I’ve visited twice this year and both times found most stall holders to be miserable and unfriendly."
"But the guy running the 'star wars men' store was rude and confrontational. I will avoid that store in the future purely based on his attitude!"
"The only downside are the staff there aren't that helpful or nice afflecks should be like a community where people share their passions and encourage customers to become friends and fans of the hobby."
"The sellers also were usually quite rude and didn't want to be bothered by us asking the price of things. Not very welcoming."
"Being coming here for ages. It's a really interesting shop, however.... I had my nose pierced here December 2016 and it was a horrible experience, the man was so rude and I was nervous."
"No cons mentioned regarding customer service."
