Shopping Experience

Pros:

  • "A very modern town centre shopping centre with a variety of different shops, bowling alley and a restaurant/cafe quarter."
  • "Since the renovation of Friars Walk which has dramatically improved Newport and brought shopping back to Newport Town Centre it's great."
  • "It was a lovely experience, with a verity of shops within, including cafés where you can rest and take a break."
  • "Nice mix of shops and is nice that it's covered rather than indoor so you get fresh air and natural light without getting rained on."
  • "Very nice up to date shopping centre. Plenty of places to eat and drink and a cinema nearby."
  • "Beautifully designed spaces, that draw you into the very good fresh looking shops."
  • "It's a well designed shopping centre which looks great!"

Cons:

  • "It looks nothing like they originally designed or how we expected it to be as portrayed in the newspapers at the time."
  • "Newport has been let down dramatically by it's council, it's now, dull, disgustingly dirty, empty shops and miss matched areas."
  • "The Council said 'build it and they will come'. Debenhams came and went, the 'city' centre cinema closed."
  • "Please note any 5 star reviews below must be trolling. This isnt a shopping centre anymore its a deserted building with empty shops."
  • "It's a strip mall with some rubbish chain restaurants. That's it. Half the units are empty!"
  • "It's a shopping centre built next to a load of empty shops."
  • "Not a bad place to shop but a lot of empty shops and units."

  • "Nice open area for sitting out and enjoying a drink or bite to eat when the weathers good."
  • "Great, place to go for eating, so many places to choose from."

Cons:

  • "Meanwhile people queue for hours to park at the Hospital just up the road."
  • "We were too Cineworld Mamma Mia 2 it was very good and we are at one of the restaurants they are the Mexican one and it was horrible I sent my mail back for the very first time in my life it was that bad."

Parking and Accessibility

Pros:

  • "Parking fees are reasonable for a city centre car park."
  • "Parking is not free but not expensive either."
  • "Cheap parking especially after 6:00pm."
  • "Clean and well spaced car park, with enough room between the car to safely get in and out without fear of damaging car doors!"
  • "The parking underneath is very good value for money, and the bus station fronts the eastern side of the mall."
  • "Car parking is good with lifts up to the shopping level."
  • "Parking in Kingsway is £1!"

Cons:

  • "Parking is a tight squeeze so I recommend using other parking structures unless you want direct access to friars walk."
  • "Queue to get in, very tight entry, car park full, no signage outside to indicate this."
  • "Car park disaster. Couldn't get out as ticket not accepted. Staff useless."
  • "The car park was horrifically busy so that took an age to park which wasn't great with two twitchy young children."
  • "Also, the two hours free parking has dropped to one hour."
