Site Location and Ambiance
Pros:
"Great trails in every direction."
"Great site lovely and quiet and feels great to be camping amongst the trees."
"Such a peaceful site, woke up to the dawn chorus amongst the trees."
"The location was perfect for this as there were both walking/running paths and a bike trail down to the visitors centre."
"This place is so beautiful! Nestled in the trees you can take your pick of pitches!"
"The feeling of being surrounded by nothing by beautiful pine trees! The smell was just so beautiful and the view were stunning."
"Beautiful site, lots of woodland around for cycling and walks, with or without dogs."
Cons:
"Main tracks through site were on the Red 'Follow the Dog' mountain bike trail that was very busy on the afternoon/evening we were there."
"Got a bit busy with people using the campsite as a walk through but people were nice enough."
"Music heard 200m away, until late, and sports car being driven dangerously around the site."
"People not staying on the camp site were just walking through it & bicycle riders too also spent the day using the site table & bench to have a picnic on."
"Public paths running through the site."
"The park can get a bit busy especially during weekend with cyclists zooming around the place and some at great speed. So need to watch out."
"Perhaps it was where we pitched but we found there were a lot of walkers and cyclists passing by which wasn’t a problem during the day but did become annoying in the evening."
Facilities and Maintenance
Pros:
"Water points and waste areas kept clean and tidy and near, depending where you decide to pitch."
"There are plenty of waste disposal points (toilet empty station)."
"Very well maintained by the warden who was great."
"Elsan disposal point was very good."
"Handy and clean water stations are dotted around the site, plus a designated area to dispose of cassette toilet waste."
"Minimal facilities (which we already knew about), however they were very well kept."
"Lovely peaceful site. Basic with just drinking water, bins and chemical waste disposal. Set in beautiful forest which is perfect to bring along a hammock."
Cons:
"Like others have said the push button at the waste disposal point is a bit of a faff."
"Water pressure is pretty poor which it’s been for 20 yrs or more."
"No wardens around over the two days that I could see to give bag as indicated by their personal email."
"Didn't see the warden once in 4 days so was never checked in, bins over flowing and not emptied."
"Bins not emptied, no poopy scoopy bins."
"Only downside is that there was just one skip for rubbish which was over flowing at the end of the weekend and pecked at by birds."
"No toilets just points to empty your travel toilets. Which is difficult for those with tents."
Value and Cost
Pros:
"Extremely good value for money!"
"The food at the pub was fantastic, very reasonably priced with good portion sizes."
"Such a gorgeous place so close to home."
Cons:
"£4 per dog made it expensive, so probably a once off visit."
"We are not in the middle of a pandemic anymore and it's beginning of march I feel the prices should reflect. £20 is a little on the high side when you consider there are no toilets."
"Pity its pricy - I would love to stay longer but not on a pension."
"Considering that there is only a tap and waste disposal, I think £20 a night is quite pricey."
"It is quite expensive when considering there are no facilities other than fresh water and an elson."
"Don't get me wrong its a lovely location but it's really expensive to say it's a campsite with no facilities."
Staff and Service
Pros:
"All of the information regarding finding the site and gaining access is provided in a clear format and contact info given in the pre-arrival email."
"Very well maintained by the warden who was great."
"Kevin the warden particularly friendly and helpful."
"Warden was friendly and bought round bottle water when they had a water problem."
"The chase rangers are always on hand and absolutely nothing is to much trouble for them."
"We met the warden in the evening who popped over to say hello and check we were ok and had no issues."
"The warden is a friendly chap, always cheery, and able to answer any questions etc."
Cons:
"Poor job done by the rangers/ forestry commission no presence or management of the site."
"Nightmare to get through to try and book, got sent here there and everywhere."
"Unfortunately the parking attendant didn't want to know about my concerns."
"Interaction with whoever runs the site is one way."
"Still carry panic alarm just in case as lots of non campers on bikes or walking through."
"Friendly staff made themselves known and where on hand if needed."
Access and Security
Pros:
"Site easy to find and protected by a solid coded padlock."
"Easiness of access to the site."
"The site was easy to access outside of our expected arrival time."
"It is good that there is hand sanitizer at the gate, and I totally agree with security."
"We felt safe in the knowledge that the wardens were contactable."
"Large mainly flat area in beautiful forest. Good facilities. quiet. Secure."
Cons:
"The fiddly gate lock..should be an easy read digital or push button lock, takes a while to fiddle about, plus in an emergency in the dark would be a hindrance."
"I would have to say that the entry lock can be really fiddly, especially when it is raining heavily!!"
"There is always an issue getting through the gate & NEVER anyone to be reached on the phone."
