Hiking Trail Quality

Pros:

  • "The hike up is well maintained, good trail with some good elevation change and incredible views."
  • "Stunning mountainside hike on a narrow path with a few moderately difficult elements. Views like no other!"
  • "Absolutely stunning spot! The walk is beautiful the whole way with views at every turn."
  • "The loop walk that takes you to the summit is worth doing for hikers, even though the altitude is modest."
  • "One of my mist favourite walks. Tremendous views with towering rock formations."
  • "The main trail takes you to some spectacular scenery within a 2-3 hour round trip hike."
  • "The Quiraing hike is a beautiful one, with amazing views."

Cons:

  • "Some of the trail has been eroded and can be a bit dangerous."
  • "The walk down the cliff is nice. You can climb up on both ends and enjoy the view, but the path is badly damaged because used too much when the soil is wet."
  • "The trail can be hard to find near the top."
  • "The path is not always great."
  • "Some of the paths are not well defined and slippery."
  • "Be sure to take the trail that veers left from the car park. If you follow the mud path going right, you’ll be in for some sheer drops, and a somewhat treacherous crossing featuring wet rocks and a tiny waterfall."
  • "Be aware there are also some sketchy secondary trails and the trail at times is no than 1-2 meters wide with fairly steep drops."

Weather and Environment

Pros:

  • "We headed up to one of the peaks, the weather was perfect, no wind or rain, we got lucky for sure."
  • "It was so beautiful. Even if you didn't plan to hike all the way to the top, you could still enjoy the amazing view not too far away from the parking lot."
  • "Stunning location. I was lucky to have been here on a perfect day, clear blue skies and great views."
  • "On a day with good visibility this hike is stunning."
  • "Gorgeous, awe inspiring, 'wow' moments every step of the way."
  • "It's amazing what you see up here. The view is out of this world."
  • "A truly stunning place to visit."

Cons:

  • "The wind can get strongest off the coast when you reach it so make sure you bring a wind resistant jacket as one area acts like a funnel."
  • "Didn't manage to get up the top as it was super windy and too dangerous to keep going."
  • "Showers of rain happen from time to time. Get used to it ;-)"
  • "It can get very windy if you do the full hike around but worth it!!!"
  • "Winds are VERY strong and when a quick storm blows though, which happened 3 times on our 4 hour adventure, gusts and rain can get down right dangerous."
  • "Be prepared for the wind and the tiny bugs trying to bite your face to bits."
  • "Bring a rain proof layer as the clouds will come and drop some rain on you."

Accessibility and Facilities

Pros:

  • "New car park being built when we were there, appeared to be nearing completion."
  • "Drive up (from the east) can be a bit steep (and tight) in places. Plenty of parking up top."
  • "At the end there was a little food truck called The teapot serving fresh burgers and coffee."
  • "There is a parking spot where you can start your trail."
  • "Plenty of paid parking at either end and a coffee van."
  • "There is plenty of parking along the road near the trailhead."
  • "You will easily deal with the single track road up to the car park."

Cons:

  • "Car park really busy at 10am. Parking meters seemed to be having issues taking card payment"
  • "Maybe there should be more facilities such as toilets at this location and I think even pre- booking in high season might become necessary eventually."
  • "One negative is that parking can be challenge, its easier to walk a few hundred meters more then opting for the closest parking space."
  • "The only drawback is the tremendous popularity of this destination means the car parking and number of people is extremely busy in high season."
  • "I would advise to come early or arrive late because parking is limited."
  • "No toilets or tea/coffee vendors."
  • "There is no washroom around or even close to it."

Safety and Difficulty

Pros:

  • "The trek is not very difficult, but children and the elderly will find it too much."
  • "The trail is mostly level and hikers of all ages can enjoy this area."
  • "Boots are recommended, but you can do this in running shoes (trail was dry as there had been no previous rain for several days)."
  • "We hiked in regular trainers and had no issues, though it was a beautiful sunny and dry day."
  • "Nice place for an easy hike, accessible by anyone in an average condition."
  • "The walk (path) itself is perfectly suitable for all ages and all abilities."
  • "A little too adventurous for seniors 60+ but still ok for little walk."

Cons:

  • "Might want to be careful as the path can be very narrow and slippery especially if it rains."
  • "Or the 4 mile loop trail which can be very slippery and had some steep edges, and slopes."
  • "Can get very boggy on the decent so good walking boots are a must."
  • "Good waterproof shoes are a must, wet places are not always visible because of the grass."
  • "It is very slippery and muddy."
  • "This hike is rated as moderate, but really should be rated more difficult, as it's quite tight and dangerous in places for those not used to it."
  • "It is nit recommended at all for those who are not sure footed as there are steep cliffs next to you."
