Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "Great atmosphere but I was a bit disappointed with the food."
  • "Happened upon this lovely pub on a Friday afternoon before Christmas - decent drink choices, open fire, plenty tables and chairs, soft music and just very cosy."
  • "Always love this pub, in my favourite London neighbourhood. Have to say your social distancing measures are great, well thought out and food, drinks and service remain fab x."
  • "Pre COVID and just after this place was the best pub around. Fantastic location and it used to have the perfect atmosphere."
  • "A good pub is nothing without friendly staff; and they were lovely."
  • "Casual north London pub. Good people watching, good drinks and excellent pizza."
  • "Great pub with a laid back atmosphere, excellent dinner menu and simple but effective pizza menu for a low-fuss option."

Cons:

  • "Place looked grubby, flies behind the bar, musty smell."
  • "Once excellent pub fallen on hard times. Service poor and food pretty rubbish."
  • "Perhaps not the pub for you if you're looking for a cozy and quiet venue to while away some time."
  • "The ladies toilet floor was sopping wet due to poor plumbing - not great when you’re wearing suede but more importantly a safety issue."
  • "Not super kids friendly pub, we were asked to leave before 7:30 pm because kids aren’t allowed after that time."
  • "Bad acoustics in the place, so a littler hard to hold a conversation."
  • "The place has an old feel, but not as much of the associated character."

Service

Pros:

  • "The staff are warm, welcoming and chatty."
  • "I organised a party there, and I had an excellent service."
  • "The bartenders are friendly."
  • "Service was really friendly and the stew and beer was nice."
  • "Staff were really friendly too, nice atmosphere and perfect location."
  • "The service was excellent, the chap who served me was personable and getting in the spirit with his Christmassy shirt."
  • "Friendly and efficient service demonstrated when a small issue was quickly corrected to my satisfaction."

Cons:

  • "Absolutely terrible service, this isn’t my local pub, me and my pals have been here only twice because we were heading to primrose hill to enjoy the sun, the staff were not polite at all."
  • "The level of professionalism in the staff is such a disgrace it brought to anger."
  • "Barmaid deeply rude and lazy - felt like asking for anything was a deep imposition on her time."
  • "Terrible service. The two girls behind the bar are constantly on their phones and don’t pay any notice to their customers."
  • "We waited for more than an hour for our food and the horrible landlord Paul laughed at me when I politely asked where our food was."
  • "The staff seemed disinterested, therefore was not impressed with the service."
  • "Service was non existent!!!"

Food & Drink

Pros:

  • "Above the average British pub in terms of food."
  • "The cod cooked to perfection, translucent with another amazing sauce full of flavour."
  • "The pub serves amazing pizza out of its wood-fired oven - goes perfectly with a pint of cider at the end of the weekend."
  • "Great choice of beers!!"
  • "Their bar pizza is made in the back and is quite good."
  • "We had the chicken and beef Sunday Roast and really enjoyed both!"
  • "The food menu is short - as it should be - and the drinks menu extensive - as it should be, its a pub after all!"

Cons:

  • "The food is overpriced, (paid £10 for 2 tiny skewers of chicken with hint of prawn, £8 for 1 scotch egg + service charge)."
  • "Usually a great place to eat but yesterday the ribeye steak i ordered arrived a bit unusual smelling...."
  • "Took us more than one hour to get our lunch, food was mediocre and expensive, bad service, not clean, way understaffed."
  • "Food was just ok but maybe that was because it was finger food for late groups rather than specific items from the menu."
  • "It said Venison on the menu for £16 but it was only very thin slices of meat as seen in the picture."
  • "The food was ok not amazing."
  • "The worst food in London! Food was simply inedible."

Pricing

Pros:

  • "Food great value considering the portion sizes!"
  • "Unpretentious with good pizza (2 for £14 mon-fri), well kept ales and good range of wine."

Cons:

  • "Over six quid for a pint of gamma ray was a bit of a surprise though... but that's the way of the world, I guess."
  • "Chicken was the size of a tapas portion for £20."
  • "Just a little over priced in my opinion."
  • "Nice atmosphere and surroundings, but if you are going to charge £16(!!) for fish and chips, it needs to be very good."
  • "The drink selection is too expensive without being interesting."
  • "My only gripe..... £7.20 for a pint of beer and £4.50 for a lemonade drink left a somewhat bitter taste."
  • "Well it's unusual that pubs add 10% service charge to your food if you order at the bar."
