Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "The atmosphere is lovely with soft lighting and great music."
  • "The thing I think I like the most though is the overall atmosphere in the pub."
  • "It's really cosy inside and has a glorious outdoor space/garden to enjoy some sun in Spring or Summer."
  • "The ambience in here is really relaxing and a perfect way to unwind after a hectic day in the real world!"
  • "Wicked atmosphere."
  • "A place where you can go to relax, enjoy a delicious dinner and a lovely drinks menu!"
  • "The outdoor tent with gas fires is very impressive and makes a great atmosphere."

Cons:

  • "Not much of an atmosphere. Huge garden in comparison to pub which I could imagine could be lovely but often empty."
  • "It's an ok pub but it's a bit stark."
  • "The pub itself is devoid of any atmosphere whatsoever. It's almost sterile."
  • "No atmosphere, definitely not a fun experience."
  • "Sometimes it gets loud but that just adds to the atmosphere."
  • "Extremely loud - have to shout to have a conversation."
  • "A cosy and well decorated pub, although intimate, it was really loud and difficult to hear my friends talking."

Service

Pros:

  • "Friendly, attentive staff. Nice decor. Well worth a visit...it's going to be my go to place in crystal palace..."
  • "Lovely cosy restaurant with friendly and accommodating staff - we were a little late ordering food but they kept the kitchen open for us to order desert which was nice."
  • "Always a warm welcome from a very professional greeter type who gets it just right."
  • "Service good with a smile."
  • "Great service, really good food (our party really enjoyed today's mains: the salmon, the duck, the belly pork and the vegan pithiever). Clean plates all round."
  • "Service 10/10 - attentive, friendly and informative."
  • "Service was friendly and quick."

Cons:

  • "I went there to one of the empty tables with no reserved sign but the guy after the hour of me taking the whole table just told me to leave as that table was reserved."
  • "Horrendous service."
  • "Service was a bit odd, felt like they were tired, had run out of a lot of stuff."
  • "Service was quite rude when we entered for the westend@thealma."
  • "Had to leave as the service was awful."
  • "The manager threatened to kick my friend out for asking why we got told to sit in the corner when we was the first group in the venue."
  • "Very poor management/customer service."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Had some really delicious small plates, i was a big fan of the cauliflower."
  • "The food is great without being fussy."
  • "Amazing starters in tapas style (jamon croquettes and Pedron peppers)."
  • "The food at The Alma is solid (if *slightly* overpriced), the wine selection is good, and the garden is really pleasant on warm evenings."
  • "The food was absolute quality from the starters, mains to dessert."
  • "Unbelievably good food!"
  • "The food was amazing especially the roast beef."

Cons:

  • "The sticky toffee pudding tasted exactly like the supermarket microwave ones (maybe this is what it was?) - not worth £8."
  • "Food only ok for the price - £21 for the beef roast - very veiny, hard roasted potatoes."
  • "Food sadly 5/10. We had the cod and the mushroom pasta and were disappointed."
  • "The cod wasn’t much better considering the price."
  • "Halibut was rubbery. Four thin slices of overcooked 'sirloin' served for Roast Beef. Cold belly pork."
  • "The main issue was the artichoke fettuccine."
  • "The food was somewhat average... The dishes were a bit on the bland side, and while the presentation was attractive, the flavours weren't quite there."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "For the quality, it's very good value."
  • "At lunch time there is the opportunity to have a meal deal, however even without any deal, prices are very honest for the generous portion and quality you receive."
  • "The food not so much... Expensive for what it was, £18 for a very very meh bass is a pity."
  • "Total bill including service charge came to about £50 which felt perhaps a touch punchy, but probably what you'd expect in London."

Cons:

  • "Tiny portions at ridiculous prices."
  • "But cannot get away from the fact that it was hugely expensive. £27.00 for 2 x mulled cider."
  • "The food was really lovely but extortionate pricing.. £18 for a squash and lentil dish is way too much, however nice it tasted- it was not a big dish."
  • "However absolutely abysmal sticky toffee pudding. Probably the worst I've had out, on par with an Iceland £1 jobby with watery sauce and generally made me sad."
  • "Wine is ridiculously expensive."
  • "But you need to clean your toilets! Once every twelve hours isn't good enough, they were filthy."
  • "However, £6.10 is steep for cask, even for 'Crystal Palace'."

Child Policy

Pros:

  • "I bloomin’ love this pub and I bloomin’ love it’s ban on children."
  • "So grateful for their no children under ten policy - the rest of CP is extremely child friendly, and it's great to be able to eat somewhere without kids screaming or climbing over furniture while you try and enjoy a meal out."
  • "It's nice that there is the option to have a peaceful meal in an adult environment."
  • "Love that they don’t allow kids!"

Cons:

  • "Such a shame there is a no child under 10 policy."
  • "In this day and age you refuse children is bad move for an area that is full of families."
  • "An ill-conceived no children under 10 policy means the Alma can only qualify for 1 star."
  • "We used to love this pub! Crystal Palace is such a welcoming community with people of all ages and lots of families. It's a real shame that the Alma pub have now decided to ban children under the age of 10."
