Park Experience

Pros:

  • "Lovely Park I use it for training and helping others lose weight. Happy to pay parking and great Cafe's too."
  • "Brilliant experience - well thought out with a pit stop halfway with food and drink stalls."
  • "So much to do and some beautiful places to walk or sit and picnic!"
  • "A beautiful day to experience the Spring blossom and flowers. The Great Park is a wonderful place to visit throughout the year."
  • "A good place is a haven of serenity, where the chaos of life recedes, and we find a moment of stillness."
  • "Great place to walk with a dog but it can get busy."
  • "Beautifully landscaped gardens, really well maintained. Some of the best I’ve seen with magnolia flowers the size of your head!"

Cons:

  • "Note Aug 2022 - numerous toilet blocks closed and signs can direct you from one closed to another one that's closed!!"
  • "Sadly the free parking places outside are now going to charge for parking so I will be unable to visit so often."
  • "Just beware that the park is bigger than you might expect and the lake in particular takes longer to walk round than you might think!"
  • "Unfortunately, on our visit the gate was locked, so we couldn't come very close, but still have managed to get some shots of it."
  • "I never saw any deer though due to walking mainly during the heat of the day, over 30C."
  • "Downside - no available WC, as the one in the park was closed for repairs & no portaloo replacement - had to walk to Savill garden to use facilities."
  • "The walk around the lake was extremely busy even though Google said it wasn't too busy."

Accessibility & Facilities

Pros:

  • "The car parks very specious considering the huge park!"
  • "With free car parking for visitors to the garden, superb food and excellent facilities for wheelchair users."
  • "Perfect location for cycling in or through it to get some outdoors exercise."
  • "Fabulous open space which stretches for miles, you could very easily get lost."
  • "The paved roads makes getting around with a pram easy."
  • "This is such a wonderful park - great any time of the year."
  • "The facilities (beverages, toilets etc) are tidy, kept in good working order."

Cons:

  • "Very expensive.... kids loved it but adults had to pay full price."
  • "Cold drinks were very pricey - tap water available."
  • "Parking is very expensive."
  • "However very disappointed with the parking price was £12 for over 3 hours on a Sunday."
  • "Parking is expensive but if you take a picnic rather than eat in the restaurant then it is a perfect balance."
  • "Parking charges were quite steep at £5 for 2 hours, machines took coins, notes and card payments."
  • "Parking £3/hr, £12 for over 3hrs."

Nature & Wildlife

Pros:

  • "A fantastic, rich natural area full of wildlife to explore and observe safely."
  • "Absolutely stunning walk, scenery, views, wildlife, waterfall was a finishing touch I was not expecting."
  • "This place is stunning! Really recommend visiting in early and mid-autumn to see all the beautiful trees in colour!"
  • "Beautiful natural country side park with lovely views, fauna, flora and animal life."
  • "The antiquity of the landscape is enhanced by the scattering of great ancient oaks for which the Great Park and its forest are renowned."
  • "Lovely to see deer and stag roaming free."
  • "A beautiful extensive natural woodland park surrounding Virginia water lake, a truly stunning place to spend a day walking, picnic breaks."

Cons:

  • "Since the pandemic struck, however, it has become a far less welcoming place for cyclists with many roads signed with NO CYCLES."
  • "Paths especially around the Virginia Water Lake can get really crowded on a beautiful day, making cycling there next to impossible."
  • "However, it is a shame that cycles are inexplicably banned 'ridden or otherwise' from the long walk and areas of nearby Virginia water."
  • "Very cycle unfriendly. Routes you could previously cycle on now have signs saying no cycling (pushed or ridden)."
  • "Really sad it has been cut off to cyclists."
  • "Many horseriders and beware the cyclists - they're often rude!"
  • "Only downside is despite the signs to keep dogs under control, there are a lot of dogs which are not under control and are loose."
