Exhibits

Pros:

  • "Jolly good for a free hour or so for kids - the dinosaurs and the Egyptian mummies are always the most popular!"
  • "The dinosaur section is very interesting."
  • "The museum has loads of archived collections. There are art works and pieces from various country and times such as the dinosaur fossils, aquatic animals fossils, Egyptian mummies and many animals from different parts of the world."
  • "Very good for children, with great exhibits in dinosaurs & ancient Egypt."
  • "All of the exhibits were interactive (dressing up as Egyptians was a bit hit, as was the ammonite jigsaw) and really informative."
  • "It has got a great Egyptian display at the moment that is factual and interesting to discover."
  • "The kids were fascinated by the Egyptian display and like the dinosaur section."

Cons:

  • "Unfortunately some of the interactive systems were not working so was unable to enjoy the full experience."
  • "Some areas downstairs are looking a little tired."
  • "Notice a few interactive bits missing/broken last time we went."
  • "The layout seemed to be under reconstruction in the dinosaur bit and seemed a bit muddled where it wasn't laid out."
  • "Spent about 40 minutes here, the exhibits didn't have any explanation or facts about what they were, in the animal area."
  • "The rock section was a large area that bored the kids."
  • "The permanent displays are very much aimed at children."

Cafe & Food

Pros:

  • "The cafe has a good selection to choose from, including gluten free food and reasonably priced."
  • "There is a cafe which serves hot and cold food and drinks."
  • "There is a cafe and a gift shop, with plenty of souvenirs to choose from."
  • "The cafe is nice and large enough."
  • "It has a cafe with cake and coffee, bit expensive but okay for a one-off you get a decent quality for what you pay for though which I was satisfied with."
  • "Café in the museum and restaurants within walking distance."
  • "Café offers good quality products at reasonable prices, again with pleasant staff."

Cons:

  • "Area surrounding the museum is slightly dodgy so travelling alone to get there was a bit hold your breath!"
  • "The only factor of disappointment was the cafe which closes well before the museum closes and the prices for drinks and snacks were very expensive."
  • "However, I had a bad experience thanks to another guest. Guest became aggressive towards me for trying to take a photo."
  • "Will upgrade to '5 stars' when cafe is back in business."
  • "The cafe was also shut awaiting a refurb, and reportedly will be for months to come."
  • "They no longer have the cafe, it has been replaced with a not so great vending machine and coffee machine."
  • "Though the cafe was definitely overpriced in spite of the full donation boxes to keep the business afloat."

  • "Parking is tricky but free on the street on Bank Holidays."
  • "Also very easy to get to from the train station, car parks are relatively close by and New Walk / Victoria Park is a lovely place to wonder around admire the architecture and see how it changes so much through the seasons and how much different things pop out under different light conditions."
