Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Great pub. We used the function for a 1 year old's birthday party. The staff were very accommodating and friendly."
  • "Very friendly staff, hence the star."
  • "The staff are friendly and attentive."
  • "Really helpful staff, lovely service, great food and menu."
  • "Had a great family meal food was really good not like a lot of places for Sunday lunch where food is processed and vegetables are frozen service and staff were friendly."
  • "Excellent food and great service!!"
  • "Staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble."

Cons:

  • "Service was okay, they certainly didn't rush but they were at the mercy of how quick the kitchen was working."
  • "The woman behind the counter was very rude and dismissive."
  • "But the staff were rude, clearly not following their own guidelines and just overall terrible experience."
  • "One of us had cling film in the batter and when we told the staff they said they'd let the chef know but didn't offer anything as an apology or seem remotely bothered about it."
  • "Pub good but service leaves a little to be desired. Waited at the bar to order food for about 1 min while 2 staff chatted, then another customer walked up and was served straight away."
  • "All the staff seemed to step on each others toes we were asked 4 times within 5 mins by 3 different people what food are you ordering, we were only there for a cup of tea."
  • "Interesting visit... Waiter was rude."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Food was value for money and served not very long after the order was placed."
  • "Delicious Sunday roast - succulent beef with Yorkshire, mixed veg, roast pots and parsnips and homemade gravy!"
  • "The food was really good, the wait time wasn't very long."
  • "Would highly recommend, especially if rest of menu is as tasty."
  • "The fish and chips is delicious, though!"
  • "Food was superb - really great menu options and good for gluten intolerance too."
  • "The food was delicious. I had fish and chips and it was perfect."

Cons:

  • "Chicken Schnitzel is definitely one to avoid as it has very little chicken in all the batter and the chicken you do get is very dry and bland."
  • "The rest of us had the steak which wasn't very good and came with a meager amount of chips."
  • "Paris Stilton burger at £13.25 had poor quality meat and was tasteless despite having stilton and a gherkin."
  • "The food is basic and over-priced."
  • "Sunday roast was mediocre. Roast pork a bit dry, over-cooked, potatoes and parsnips chewy."
  • "Food comes, awful all round, nothing but meat and potatoes."
  • "The food was mediocre, it was taco Tuesday, three tacos for £10, they looked good and the people in my group enjoyed them, I had the tacos, though they were freshly cooked, the toppings and presentation just didn't quite cut it."

Atmosphere and Ambience

Pros:

  • "Great for a town centre pub. Really good atmosphere, even on a Monday evening."
  • "Great atmosphere and very cosy if you don't mind paying 68 billion pounds a litre for soft drinks."
  • "Great interior and chatty staff."
  • "The atmosphere was good, as was the service."
  • "Very dog friendly and had a nice warm atmosphere to the place. We couldn't fault the food at all and the staff are lovely."
  • "The gastropub layout incorporates classic brick walls and a cosy outdoor garden with greenery."
  • "The atmosphere of the pub is really nice and friendly."

Cons:

  • "It was a bit noisy due to the acoustics of the place and the wooden floors but we got used to it."
  • "There is no accessible entrance for wheelchair users, acoustics are really bad in all parts of the bar."
  • "We stayed in the backyard which definitely has seen better days in the past."
  • "Pub was really noisy and probably not the best location for a sit down meal. Struggled to hear each other."
  • "Towards the end of the night the music was turned up unnecessarily loud, to the point nobody could hear each other at a sit down pub."
  • "Only thing not so great was the music being so loud and us as a group could not hear each other talk."
  • "The place gives a very traditional feel, but if you are up for dinner be prepared to shout across the table to be heard as there are many people in the evening and noise level is quite high."

  • "Not too bad - prices were fairly high for the food, and it was a little dim - it would have been difficult to read a menu."
  • "Great atmosphere and very cosy if you don't mind paying 68 billion pounds a litre for soft drinks."
  • "Very Very pricey, £4 pints, with an average cost of £12 for meals."
  • "Food was very underwhelming for the price."
