Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Brilliant cooking. Had the lunch menu and was very surprised and pleased, one of the best Michelin starred restaurants I've visited."
  • "Some dishes were stunning such as the suckling pig with carrot and ginger which was a masterful work of flavour and textures and delivered a perfect balance on the plate."
  • "Every dish on the menu was a delight, as were all the pre and post dinner treats."

  • "Exciting food, very high quality presentation and outstanding service."
  • "The food presentation is amazing and food taste is so good I cannot find appropriate words to describe it."
  • "The food is out of this world - an explosion in the mouth, the presentation is outstanding and looks almost too good to eat."

Cons:

  • "The pigeon dish was extremely disappointing and lacked seasoning."
  • "Very tired menu."
  • "We weren’t so keen on the monkfish and quinoa but you can’t love everything."
  • "The food was fine, but overpriced."
  • "I ordered a vegetarian dinner that could not compare to my own cooking."
  • "Canapés looked better than they tasted."
  • "The tasting menu in our opinion lacked a fish dish which we found quite disappointing."

Service

Pros:

  • "Service was brilliant, staff were very friendly and attentive."
  • "Every member of the front of house team going above and beyond to make the evening memorable."

  • "The service additionally was fantastic."
  • "Service was attentive."
  • "The staff are all very kind and welcoming, and clearly proud of their work."
  • "The waiting staff have us stellar service."

Cons:

  • "The head server treated us with disdain. He was indifferent, patronising, and stiff."
  • "I have made numerous attempts to contact the restaurant via email, phone and facebook and every message has been ignored. Disgrace!"
  • "The service was really kind but made little mistakes."
  • "The service so incredibly disjointed to say the least."
  • "Not too attentive service."
  • "The service should have been on point and it really wasn’t."
  • "The waiting staff clearly didn't know enough about the dishes to respond other than what was on their 'script'."

Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "It's a unique restaurant in its category, definitely worth a detour!"
  • "The décor in this area was sublime."
  • "The dining room is very warm, comfortable and stylishly finished."
  • "The atmosphere is relaxed and understated, no excessive noise, and easy."
  • "A magical venue with charm, full of delight, superlative food, service, hospitality and on a mid-summers day it’s simply unbeatable."
  • "The setting is quite calming - you feel like you have enough space to relax and enjoy the lunch without ever being rushed."
  • "The surroundings couldn't be better with the River Cam behind and Midsummer Common in front."

Cons:

  • "There is a softly spoken type of atmosphere amongst the diners, and no music is played to break the sometimes very hushed environment."
  • "I have no problem paying out a lot of money for a mind blowing experience but this really fell short in my opinion."
  • "There was often a gap of 25 minutes or more between courses, making the dinner last over 4 hours."
  • "The only way this place falters is in its soundproofing, given a larger party across from you, expect those more intoxicated persons may interject their conversation over your own."
  • "It’s clear this place takes too many bookings and we found the tables were too close together to be private."
  • "On a wet and windy November night it felt like we were dining in a 1990's style house extension."
  • "It’s just way overpriced."

Value

Pros:

  • "The price you pay monetarily is high, but it will be worth the night that you will never forget."
  • "100% recommendation....you won’t be disappointed. But as you can expect....it’s a high end restaurant, so it’s going to have a premium price point. In fairness....I didn’t begrudge a penny...."
  • "It is very expensive, even compared to other two stars and some three but in my opinion very much worth it for the food."
  • "You get a very long experience, very high quality, fresh and tasty sequence of interesting dishes."
  • "The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend the flight of wines to go with each course."
  • "Overall, 115pp for lunch including a glass of Krug, water and coffee/tea is a good value and excellent experience."
  • "It was well worth the cost if you are willing to pay it."

Cons:

  • "However BEWARE, one member of our party had to cancel last minute due to COVID, and we were charged the full price for even though we informed at arrival."
  • "We booked almost 4 weeks in advance and 3 days later had to cancel... after cancellation only £80 refunded."
  • "The only negative is the lofty price that goes with it."
  • "It isn't cheap; our bill was just over £700 but what an experience!"
  • "The expression “if you have to ask the price, then you cannot afford it…” is very apt."
  • "Wines and spirits are of course, outrageously marked up."
  • "The tasting menu for 4 people... with 2 wine flights, 1bottle of the house champagne and a (voluntary) 10% tip came in at a hefty £1550."
