Facilities
Pros:
"Good facilities, great history."
"Very good toilet, shower facilities, easy access to drinking."
"There are recently added toilet facilities which is unusual for the forest."
"The facilities are simple but practical and kept nice and clean."
"Toilets and shower rooms were cleaned daily."
"Plenty of toilets and adequate showers."
"Very friendly and attentive site staff and well maintained facilities."
Cons:
"NO SHOWERS, disgusting."
"The showers are just not up to standard and it's been like that for too long."
"Toilets are a little basic compared to previous visits to this site."
"The only thing that put me off a bit is that none of the gents showers were hot."
"The amenities are basic and when we went (a May BY weekend) all hand dryers and most of the lights above the mirrors didn't work."
"The toilet/shower/washing facilities are always busy and not very well maintained."
"The toilet blocks and showers could do with updating."
Staff and Service
Pros:
"The staff was very friendly and helped us even when the reception was actually closed."
"The staff are fantastic and very helpful especially Guy who helped us with our technical fault on our van!"
"Welcoming and friendly park rangers."
"Super helpful wardens onsite - with a special shout out to Susan who is doing her first season as a warden and was SO friendly and helpful."
"The staff were helpful and friendly."
"Staff really helpful."
"On our arrival the staff were extremely friendly and helped us to find a suitable pitch."
Cons:
"Staff member was a bit condescending/rude to us as it was assumed that we were underaged."
"Staff no where near as friendly/welcoming, reluctant to act when reported a group being very loud at 2:30am."
"A member of staff was very rude to us and intent on making things as awkward as possible."
"The jobsworth that dealt with us was patronising and condescending."
"Talking to other people using the site I kept hearing the same comments about the staff."
"The lady told them they have to book this online and refused to take payment at the desk."
"When we arrived to meet friends, the lady at the entrance seemed to ask every possible question to find a reason not to let us in."
Wildlife and Environment
Pros:
"Great open heathland with occasional ponies passing through."
"Free running ponies, cows and donkeys. And even pine martins."
"Watching the animals roam around."
"Lovely to see the animals roaming around."
"It's a beautiful campground with wild donkeys and horses roaming around."
"We loved the wide open spaces, baby donkeys and ponies wandering through the campsite."
"Beautiful site, donkeys, ponies and many wild birds all around."
Cons:
"Only thing that spoil it were the idiots who obviously were innumerate and couldn't read the spread limit, and came along the road ways in their mainly 4x4s and flash cars with the deliberately noisy exhaust pipes at ridiculous speeds especially as there were children and adults riding bikes along it."
"With the lovely horses & cows also comes a lot of poo... just meant we had to be careful where we pitched up."
"The wild animals are a nice feature but their presence must be taken seriously, we had our new tent damaged and 2 encounters were quite unnerving."
"The whole site was covered in horse droppings and cow pats to such an extent there was barely 2 feet of grass between them, very unhygienic for children playing and cooking and eating."
"Given this the site is pretty much void of native wildlife probably due to the large population of grey squirrels."
"Sad the kids couldn’t fish the pond any more."
"The major negative for me was the poor toilet and shower facilities."
Value and Pricing
Pros:
"Great value at £13 a night."
"Run by 'Camping in the Forest' prices start at around £14."
"Reasonable prices and lovely staff."
Cons:
"Quiet expensive but you do get all the facilities and surroundings you would want from a family camp sit."
"I think it is too expensive, since most campsites in South-England are cheaper and they do have an electricity hook up."
"Very primitive. Expensive for what you get."
"Price doubled for bank holiday weekend in April."
Site and Location
Pros:
"The site was beautiful, right in the forest, lots of wildlife, pitch where you want, stunning walks from site."
"The openness of this forest site with the animals roaming freely through."
"It is an easy drive into Brockenhurst where the Co-op is really well stocked."
"Great Campsite in the middle of the forest."
"The site is well located for walks directly from your ‘front door’ as well as a short drive from the sea."
"Beautiful peaceful site."
"The site is so beautiful. Wildlife everywhere and so much greenery to explore."
Cons:
"Used to be a wonderful campsite until they closed the shower blocks which can only be due to poor management."
"The place is shut down from Oct to April so what genius decided to resurface the off road vehicle path with 2 massive tractors with spreading and leveling equipment."
"The decline in this much loved site is an absolute disgrace."
"Think it's a dangerous rule to lock site and prevent people who need to leave in an emergency."
"Not the best place in the world to go camping with a large group unless you can keep noise level to a minimum at all times."
"The Chemical Disposal Points were high making it difficult to lift full 40litre grey water containers up and over."
"Two of our bikes were stolen and our friends we were camping with lost an ebike."
Rules and Regulations
Pros:
"Its family friendly and due to the curfew it's also quiet at night which is great for a good sleep."
"A very large family friendly campsite with semi-wild horses, cows and donkeys roaming free."
"For a huge 350 pitch campsite was surprisingly quite at night."
