Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Had a quiet Sunday lunch at Amma’s Canteen and we were delighted with the food! Chicken 65 was excellent and a highlight for me personally."
  • "The meat in the Kerala Beef Curry was cooked to perfection."
  • "The lamb biryani was also really excellent, although it's worth noting that it's not a dum biryani."
  • "The chicken ghassi had great flavor, and I couldn't get enough of the Malabar porathas - they were really good."
  • "The masala dosa was very crispy and tasty."
  • "Truly amazing Lamb biryani, was sublime."
  • "The food is fantastic. No two dishes are alike (unlike some dishes in indian restaurants which have very similar sauces)."
  • "The food had different twists from the traditional Indian restaurant food. Each dish was presented beautifully as if in a Michelin Star restaurant."

Cons:

  • "The curry itself, although very tasty, had some room for improvement to add that extra oomph and some more depth of flavour."
  • "The masala vadai was average."
  • "The portions were quite small and the prices were a bit high."
  • "The spinach and beans were very bland no flavour at all with an after taste not pleasant at all."
  • "Food was okay, slightly above average, but certainly not worth the over inflated costs."
  • "Food was okayish. I have had better Dosa & vada tbf in Manchester. It's unjustifiably pricey."
  • "The chicken curry was not great in taste either."
  • "Unfortunately food is not authentic at all - caters to western palettes, which is probably the restaurant's target market and totally fair enough."

Service and Staff

Pros:

  • "The staff is quite friendly and the food was just amazing."
  • "The owners are so friendly and so welcoming."
  • "The staff were superb and it was lovely to see their enthusiasm for the menu."

  • "The staff were very welcoming and on the ball with the Covid measures, we felt well looked after and safe eating in."
  • "The owners are a friendly couple and put so much care and effort into every dish."
  • "The front of house staff are friendly and professional and our waiter checked dietary requirements/allergies before we ordered."
  • "Our waiter checked dietary requirements/allergies before we ordered. Will definitely go back."

Cons:

  • "Unfortunately won't return - Edit, quite the rude reply from owner."
  • "I can't give a 5 star is the value for money, the portion sizes are small with a high price point for the size."
  • "Service left a lot to be desired (even though the restaurant was empty)"
  • "Long wait for food and drinks. Coconut water was from an out of date carton and tasted insipid."
  • "Ordered the dosa, Indian pizza, lentil doughnuts and lamb curry. All delicious, wish I could have had more and will definitely go back again one day Insha'Allah."
  • "Food was lovely, the owner himself and all staff excluding one were very hospitable and accommodating. Unfortunately the one staff member was very rude and unprofessional."
  • "Very authentic, traditional. Suggest you have a chat with one of staff about items you choose to have in the menu as this isn't a regular curry place."
  • "The ambience is great. Some of the dishes are very tasty. But I think a few are a bit less spicy ( probably to cater to the needs of localities who seem to love the place). Most of the staff members are cordial and helpful(but not all)."

  • "I think the front face of it could be more aesthetically appealing though."
  • "Less than average Indian food- some potential, but mostly misses- never seen a dosa with jalapenos and in a pizza box!"
  • "Nice, cosy restaurant set off the main road, near to Southern Cemetery. Clean tables and chairs, excellent choice of food, not too much."
  • "A not so pleasant experience. Long wait for food and drinks. Coconut water was from an out of date carton and tasted insipid."
  • "But I think a few are a bit less spicy ( probably to cater to the needs of localities who seem to love the place). Most of the staff members are cordial and helpful(but not all)."
