Shopping Experience
Pros:
"Overall I'm totally satisfied with the Marlands Shopping Center experience."
"Clean and bright. No groups of youth's as usually found in most shopping centre's, plenty of security."
"Always very clean so credit to the cleaners."
"Great shopping centre for kids, adults and everyone in between. Vast variety of shops from toys to clothes and food and drink."
"It's a very clean establishment with helpful and friendly staff at the assistance point, I don't feel intimidated or scared by any of the people that work there."
"Very good, a wide variety of shops, especially the Disney store which is always a bonus."
"Good little shopping centre, wide array of shops and always clean and tidy."
Cons:
"The Marland is looking very tired and old now, also with it not having many high street shops in there I think people are using West Quay more."
"Wheelchair accessible toilets, which can be in need of a thoroughly good clean."
"Not as good as the westquay shopping which is about 10 seconds away from this place. The staff here are okay, some are nice and some are just a bit rude."
"The shops are good but the lifts are always breaking down and the landlords aren't that bothered."
"It's not a place where you come to because you want to, but it does have fancy dress store that hits the roof with sales in seasonal times."
"Most run down shopping mall I've been in for some time."
"It's now a shell of a shopping centre filled with shops who sell overpriced items which you can find much cheaper in other High Street stores."
Accessibility
Pros:
"Wheelchair accessible entrance and lift to allow everyone to explore the 2 floors of beauty outlets, budget stores and cafes."
"Although not every disability is visible Marland Shopping mall do a very good job of looking after a lot of disabilities with accessible parking, shopping and Radar operation toilets."
"You have upstairs and downstairs with escalators stairs and lifts so suitable for disabled people as well."
"The peacocks is brilliant for disabled to get around thanks."
"Alway a lovely center with shops and easy access to higher floors to disable people rather than the larger center which is overrun and is very difficult to get in a lift."
"Very friendly and helpful staff."
"Good parking a massive amount of different shops love the place clean and tidy the toilets are kept very clean."
Cons:
"Unfortunately most of these shops are closing and the down stairs savers are over stocked and not easy to get round in a wheelchair."
"I am in a wheelchair so can't even use the disabled loos upstairs a lot of the time it's a disgrace the amount of rent they charge plus the profit they make from asda's carpark it's scandalous."
"The parking is not too expensive but it's quite a walk from the shops."
"Good range of shops, does have a carpark but unfortunately it isn't connected to the shopping centre you have to go up to level 10 then walk through asda and cross the road to get in."
"The location added more to the reason why one may chose this area as shopping of choice because Marlands bus stop is just opposite the building. Equally, there is a parking space just in the front of the building, before the bus stop where one can park. Not a large parking area though."
"Parking day rate 5gbp but small and compact, Not for Big SUV's. Almost all big brands are available nearby from Ikea, Debenhams, M&S, Apple, etc."
"It has a dedicated parking service which is very huge and vast."
Shop Variety & Quality
Pros:
"Great selection of products at The Grape Tree."
"Very huge shopping mall which almost has everything related to day to day living."
"Secondary Mall to West Quay but caters for customers with a more discerning eye for a bargain."
"It has a good selection inside, with some nice stores selling items that can be hard to find elsewhere, at a decent price."
"This mall is rather small compared to Westquay, but has some nice specialized shops, for instance to buy great coffee and tea, nuts and seeds, and handicrafts."
"Pretty good shopping centre. All in all it has almost all the shops you need; from Whittard for your novelty tea needs, to costume shops, clothing and tech they've kinda got all you could want."
"There are more of the smaller shopping chains as well as the big ones, there is plenty of space to move around and there are some hidden treats as far as shops go upstairs."
Cons:
"Some decent shops here but in comparison to other places, you only ever really come to marlands if you have a specific shop you want to visit."
"Mainly only go into the Marlands shopping centre to visit the Disney store. It has lost many great shops over the years which is a shame as its a nice little mall."
"Second fiddle to West Quays. If you like nail bars, discounters and second hand mobile dealers, this place would be your dream."
"Now that west quay has taken over Southampton in the mall arena, the Marlands shopping centre is going the same way as 'east street' arcade."
"This mall used to be a great place to shop as a quieter alternative to West Quay, however in current times it's lacking quality and there is a few empty units."
"It's an OK shopping centre on the budget end of the spectrum. Discount stores, low end clothing retailers and goods, and second hand games/electronics."
"A not so big shopping mall with low quality and low cost shops."
Customer Service & Experience
Pros:
"The Marlands shopping center will always have a specific team to grab and dispose the unwanted materials and waste, very well managed by the supervisor."
"Everything is in place for some safe Christmas shopping, you may have to queue for some shops but just remember it's not the shop workers fault!! they really are doing a great job in some extremely difficult circumstances."
"Clean and appealing and full of independent traders."
"Sea life play center is good if you have kids, can be fun for them."
"Love this place! Venues include Disney Store and Rockbottom Toy Store (my two faves!)."
"What a great shopping experience, real community feel and all the shop holders seem to be local and care."
"Great shopping centre with lots to see, buy and eat."
Cons:
"Marland’s have changed their Thursday opening hours but have not updated their web presence or bothered to change the hours published on the outside of the centre."
"Quiet, though bunch of teenagers were spraying silly string over stalls downstairs from upstairs and no security was to be seen even after they threw a lid at a pushchair!"
"Disappointing to see the Whittard store had gone from Southampton."
"Awful place. Lady that served us (we think she's the owner) was so rude to us from the beginning, constantly looking as if we're bothering her with our presence."
"I am absolutely disgusted with the customer service provided and items of clothing/accessories received."
"The air was permeated with the smell of greasy food. Couldn't wait to get outside."
"The worst thing about this place is the lavatories, they always stink to high heavens, the daily cleaning and ventilation seriously need looking at to sort the situation out."
