Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The actual burger in the bun was the best burger I've had, you could taste everything in the burger with every bite."
  • "Cheesecake trio, wasn't to sickly considering it was white chocolate, each ball complimented each other and tasted sweet, crunch from honeycomb was welcomed too."
  • "The Sea Bass was slightly too crispy but not enough to spoil the meal, the combination of the meal really delivered."
  • "Food was very nice and portioned correctly to its cost."
  • "Would definitely recommend a visit here if you're looking for traditional home cooked food that is really good quality."
  • "Food was lovely (6 of us all enjoyed it)."
  • "The food was delicious (as always)."

Cons:

  • "Service was really quite slow but the food has gone backwards."
  • "For the price the quality of the food was below an acceptable standard."
  • "Vegetarian lunch option sounded great but lacked flavour and texture was stodgy."
  • "The burrata had an acidic sauce all over which was horrible."
  • "The pavlova (mini desert) there was absolutely no (NONE AT ALL) meringue (pavlova base) in the serving - my wife who loves pavlova was very disappointed!"
  • "Food is nice, but not quite deserving of the price tag."
  • "The starter was greasy and the main (chicken pie) was inedible."

Service

Pros:

  • "Our server was called Julie. She was brilliant so helpful knew the menu so well."
  • "Our waitress, Julie was fantastic! Great personality and excellent service."
  • "The best thing was the service from the two ladies working there, Julie and Vibeke made sure we had everything we needed and were extremely attentive."
  • "The service was great and friendly."
  • "We were served quickly and professionally."
  • "The service was very good."
  • "Service was very good."

Cons:

  • "We were ignored for 10 mins and even said excuse me to a waitress in a black and white striped shirt who ignored us."
  • "Service was efficient, maybe a little too efficient."
  • "Went on Christmas Day and the manager Clare refused to serve us at the bar, forced us to do table service although there were not enough space for all of us."
  • "The service was very good although I think the place was a little under staffed."
  • "The waiter should have let me pay rather than disappearing and me having to find him."
  • "Staff not apologetic treated it like, 'oh well, never mind'."
  • "Stopped there during a walk along the canal. Stood at the ‘wait here to be seated’ sign like wallies while staff members walked past ignoring us."

Ambiance and Location

Pros:

  • "Lovely atmosphere, we sat outside on the deck by the canal, but they have a lovely building and nice seating inside too."
  • "Beautiful country pub."
  • "The atmosphere is wonderful, as we sat indoors dining under the beams."
  • "Lovely restaurant with beautiful views of the river from the garden."
  • "A great place to visit by the canal with amazing food and wonderful service."
  • "Amazing location and seating for indoors and outdoors."
  • "Fantastic location adds a value and outdoor settings are great as well."

Cons:

  • "Not a bad location but otherwise not very impressed. Decor a bit tired."
  • "Another fine example of how this chain of pubs buys up beautiful property and turns them into weirdly non inviting (often expensive) establishments that definitely aren’t pubs."
  • "The current decor is very tired and in need of a make over, it is looking quite run down."
  • "As it's an old building the dining room inside was a bit cramped, and the setting is hampered slightly by the main road bridge curving round outside."
  • "The only downside is if you just want a drink, seating is limited around the entrance and bar area."
  • "One major drawback for me was the inability to stand at the bar."
  • "The table we were seated at was located in between 3 other tables occupied by larger groups, which put us right in the middle of the noise."

Value for Money

  • "Price of drinks high IMHO."
  • "Food is nice, but not quite deserving of the price tag."
  • "It’s far from the cheapest option but for something more special, especially as part of a day out in the area, it’s good."
  • "Ultimately you're paying for the location here (and service), which is excellent."
  • "Shocking that a soda and lime is £3.50!"
  • "Some mains served, were a little on the small size for the prices."
