Accommodation

Pros:

  • "Had a fantastic stay at The Huntsman, the rooms were to a very high standard."
  • "What a lovely place to stay, fantastic price for a fantastic room."
  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you in the Mallard suite and the food was fantastic!"
  • "The accommodation was also fantastic and I couldn't fault any aspects at all."
  • "Me and my son had a lovely stay at the Huntsman."
  • "Nice clean room, great location, very reasonably priced."
  • "We stayed in 2 bedrooms in the courtyard, the rooms were fabulous and very comfortable."

Cons:

  • "The hotel from the outside looks lovely and the rooms on the website are very Misleading. I had the king room. The room was dark and dingy and no real good lighting to dry my hair or put make up on."
  • "The rooms are tired, especially the bathrooms."
  • "Rooms could do with updating or at the very least better cleaning."
  • "The room looked nice but it smelt so musty and of mould (my 7 year old daughter kept commenting) and again had such a bad night sleep due to ill fitting, unglazed windows on a main road and very noisy guests leaving late at night."
  • "However both rooms a little tired."
  • "Given Grouse room initially which was noisy as next to road and window wouldn’t open one pane of glass was smashed and taped up."
  • "The rooms need some attention. We had two nights there and there's no sound proofing at all."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "We all had roasts and they were really tasty and really well presented!"
  • "The steaks were cooked to perfection."
  • "Food was amazing, service was great and the staff went out of their way to help us celebrate my son's birthday."
  • "I have to say fish was lovely."
  • "The food we had during our stay was delicious and would recommend the pizzas and fish and chips with no hesitation."
  • "Lovely place for food. Pizzas were delicious and the cherry ice cream with the chocolate torte to die for!"
  • "The food that we had (we had dinner, breakfast and lunch there) to be excellent."

Cons:

  • "The food was not good, triple cook chips, soggy, batter on fish, not crispy and not much fish, very disappointed and certainly not worth £18."
  • "Dessert was slightly disappointing; apple crumble was finished-gutted, that's a staple for a wintery Sunday roast meal."
  • "When I dug them out from under fish they looked awful, very dark in colour didn’t look appetising."
  • "The fish was huge but unfortunately had no flavour so I didn't finish my meal."
  • "Vegetables for both the main meal where almost raw."
  • "Food was poor. My pork chop came with substituted items that I wasn't made aware of."
  • "The food was a let down with only 2/4 of us happy with our food."

Service

Pros:

  • "Staff very welcoming, service was good, drinks ordered and arrived quickly."
  • "The person who served us throughout the meal was kind, interactive, polite and attentive."
  • "The young lady who served us was lovely- no complaints at all - friendly, polite and professional."
  • "Abbi, that served me and my husband was absolutely lovely."
  • "The service was great and the waitress was really lovely and accommodating."
  • "Really great waiters and waitress, very friendly."
  • "The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and communication between them all was excellent."

Cons:

  • "The waiter wasn't over happy with our request to bring cake out."
  • "Quiet in the pub and yet took ages to get a drink order taken."
  • "The service was poor and really really slow."
  • "We waited ages for someone to take our order."
  • "Servers who did not listen when we placed drinks order and just walked away."
  • "Service slow. Other customers complaining."
  • "Service was friendly and effective but slow start for greeting and food."

Ambience and Decor

Pros:

  • "Great little pub / guest house on the tourist trail. Awesome beer garden and good looking restaurant."
  • "Great interior design and a nice garden."
  • "Inside and outside very clean and well decorated."
  • "A friendly country pub with a large spacious beer garden."
  • "These rooms are attached to the hotel and have their own private garden, which was lovely to sit and read and enjoy."
  • "Great ambience with a large garden."
  • "The garden is stunning. Really quaint little English pub. Rustic outside and really nice decor."

Cons:

  • "The atmosphere is always really peculiar, it is rather dark and they love their mood lighting - to the point where you can’t see your food."
  • "However, the toilets in the pub are so dark, the lighting is very poor and the decor very dark too."
  • "Place looks lovely, but is becoming style over substance."
  • "Also, the menu needs more allergy and diet restriction options."
  • "The decor has clearly been refreshed but is still a bit shabby (cracked ceilings, poor skirtings etc) although everything was clean."
  • "However, the waitress was lovely, very friendly and was very happy to chase up the drinks orders as they were very very slow in arriving."
  • "Also the main dining area is lovely but there is an area at the back where some guests/diners are put which has very drab decor and lighting too and you can just about see your food and the area has no atmosphere."
