Food Quality

Pros:

  • "We chose 2 dishes from the set menu and they were both delicious and good value."
  • "The menu is eclectic with something for everyone. The food is to a high standard and couldn't fault at all."
  • "Everything was very good except the peppercorn sauce (just water?) and the pasta meal was fairly light."
  • "The food (evening meal and breakfast) are exceptional and reasonably priced."
  • "Really enjoyed the Caesar salad for starter and Cornish Hake for mains both off the set menu with a glass of wine included."
  • "Food was decent, very good value set menu but we went off piste."
  • "Roast beef was rare just how it should be with a massive Yorkshire pudding and generous gravy."
  • "The food was exquisite. Steaks all cooked to perfection."

Cons:

  • "The cauliflower was unseasoned and undercooked, total of 4 carrots which were overcooked, some cabbage, 3 hard potatoes and very watery tasteless gravy."
  • "For the price, I expected a lot better but what we got instead was tough beef, bland lamb and vegetable portions that were more suitable for a mouse."
  • "Service was atrocious. We waited an hour between courses and consequently were there for over three hours. I had roast beef which was hard to cut and even harder to chew."
  • "We had to wait >1h for the main course. The roast potatoes had been cremated and the meat was served cold."
  • "Burgers well overcooked, very dry, which made them chewy."
  • "The burger was overcooked and the bun disintegrated to mush before I had eaten half of it. The rosemary chips were nicely cooked but didn't taste of rosemary."
  • "Burgers were not good - dried up buns and soggy dressings and tough overcooked burger."
  • "Everything was a "no" as they were woefully unprepared for the world Cup final... food was really expensive and below standard."

Service Quality

Pros:

  • "Great service - very friendly. We will definitely be returning."
  • "Worth mentioning that we were served by a lovely gentleman who lip-reads. His attentiveness was faultless."
  • "The staff were friendly and attentive."
  • "The staff were all lovely - very friendly, welcoming and helpful."
  • "Sunday lunch in the restaurant was really good. Friendly service - very efficient and well timed."
  • "The service was brilliant from all the staff, in particular Paul."
  • "Absolutely speechless just how good everything was! The service was brilliant from all the staff."
  • "The staff were lovely and friendly, and we found the food to be very nice."

Cons:

  • "They seemed short-staffed (though staff were friendly), and it took a very long time to get our food order."
  • "Despite my fury I am pleased I managed to stay polite -though given the circumstances I was amazed that a £14 service charge was STILL ADDED."
  • "We let it go on the first occasion (50 minute wait time to be served), but for the second time today we were left standing at the bar for 30 minutes without service."
  • "Service started off as attentive but then drifted to almost forgetting we were there."
  • "Staff were not very helpful. Everything was a "no" as they were woefully unprepared for the world Cup final."
  • "The "chef" outside had no idea what was really going on or people skills, food was really expensive and below standard and one bar tender was just plain rude."
  • "Booked an outside table just after lockdown...however the waiter only wore the mask just covering his mouth, heavily breathing over our table through his nose."
  • "Went for Sunday lunch with ten of my family and whilst I appreciate ten is a big table, the service was atrocious."
