Castle Experience

Pros:

  • "The castle was well maintained and well signed, with loads of areas for the kids (and adults) to explore."
  • "Marvellous ruined castle at the top of a hill with beautiful panoramic views in all directions."
  • "One of the most interesting castles in Wales due to its prominent position and amazing views."
  • "Fantastic 360 degree views of the surrounding areas."
  • "With sweeping views, interesting history and many photo opportunities, this is an absolute must."
  • "The castle is a ruin but there is enough left to get a feel for it."
  • "Amazing castle situated in the beautiful Welsh mountains. Some great information about the castle and all its history."

Cons:

  • "So unbelievably rude and unnecessary."
  • "The disappointment for me was the fact that the cave/dungeon was closed and we were not told on entry, and still charged full price."
  • "Gift shop lacks gifts that suits the castle."
  • "The castle is ok but that's it. I wouldn't rush to see it."
  • "You pay £5.50 to get in. It's a very small castle with no information and signs to educate you."
  • "A very nice castle but the entry prices are an absolute rip-off."
  • "Disgustingly rude staff."

Accessibility

Pros:

  • "While it isn't really buggy or wheelchair friendly due to the nature of its defensive position, we found it easily manageable with a baby sling."
  • "There is wheelchair chair access to the cafe and outside seating areas."
  • "Good for dogs on leads."
  • "The cafe/shop at the farm is reasonably priced and staff friendly and willing to help."
  • "Perfect for families and disability accessible with a cafe and tearoom below which looks over the countryside."
  • "Cadw managed so there is an entry fee, though that does mean there's a cafe!"
  • "Helpful staff, and good food with beautiful views from the windows in the large hall."

Cons:

  • "This castle is inaccessible for wheelchairs."
  • "Not great if you have physical difficulty as uneven footings."
  • "Castle probably tough to visit for those with restricted mobility."
  • "The approach is steep so not for anyone with mobility issues, the ascent takes approximately 10 mins."
  • "A Great Castle to visit if you’re in the area, not wheelchair friendly due to the steep incline towards the castle and you have to go off road to get to the walkways in the castle."
  • "Also it is on the side of a cliff so I would be careful."
  • "Spoilt by ignorant arrogant staff. Attitude of one woman in particular was disgraceful."

Amenities

Pros:

  • "Parking is free and we even had to help push a car stuck in the snow out. All part of the fun."
  • "The cafe/gift shop at the car park area with very friendly staff and good prices on drinks and food."
  • "Nice farm cafe / shop by the car park too."
  • "The tea room is lovely, set in beautiful and rather grand buildings."
  • "Lovely spacious tea rooms with good facilities and a decent range of options on the menu."
  • "The restaurant serves great food and the old farming equipment dotted around is a nice touch."
  • "The car park has rubbish bins, 3 picnic benches and a stunning vista."

Cons:

  • "Side note: the gift shop is very expensive when it comes to refreshments!"
  • "The tea room is also basic. When I ordered a latte I was told they only do filter coffee."
  • "Cafe was a bit of let down, coffee was nice enough but the hot chocolate was full of lumps."
  • "It wasn't clear if we were allowed access to the farm (as described on the website)."
  • "Trails full of animal waste which is not acceptable for an attraction with such a high admission fee."
  • "Would have given 5 stars but the lady in the tea room came across very rude when we thanked them for our lunch."
  • "Avoid this place!! Quite simply, this was a terrible and awful experience."

Value

Pros:

  • "Great local find - free parking, dogs welcome, great place for kids to run around and climb castle walls."
  • "I'd definitely recommend a visit to Carreg Cennen."

Cons:

  • "Pretty good view but £5.50 entry is steep, maybe ok for a family but there are *free* castles around the area which offer just as good views, bit of a rip tbh."
  • "It can be quite pricey though. A family ticket will set you back £15."
  • "Entry price is also steep! £6.50 per adult is a bit much in my opinion."
  • "Prices a bit steep for what's left of the castle."
  • "Most importantly, you have to pay to visit the ruins and if they're taking entrance fees at the little cabin up the pathway, it's cash only so be prepared."
  • "However bit expensive for entry £15 entry for 3 people (2 concessions)."
  • "Only 4 stars because you have to pay a lot of money to walk up a hill with no bins and leave your dog pooh by a gate."

  • "The cave is currently closed because of COVID-19."
