Steam Train Experience
Pros:
"We spent the morning riding the lovely steam trains and learning about the history of this lovely railroad."
"We had afternoon tea on the train. It was a real joy - the steam train ride, the food and mainly the staff, on the train, were all great."
"The staff were friendly and extremely professional and everyone was so knowledgeable and happy to help."
"A wonderful experience and would highly recommend."
"Stations are well maintained with refreshments and toilet facilities."
"We are fortunate in the UK that there are many preserved railways, two things that stood out for me. One was the enthusiasm of the volunteers, their knowledge and engagement with visitors."
"Spent today exploring Sheringham and Holt. Used the steam railway, and the experience was worth every penny."
Cons:
"For us what let it down was the poor choice in music to go with the journey, you went from dance to random pop."
"Couldn't cross the bridge at station LOCKED!"
"Only problem for me was that the Halloween train stops and they tell a story to the kids (my son wasn't interested as he wanted to go back in the train."
"Lost a star as £30.50 for a single journey 2 adults, 1 child & 2 dogs is pricey."
"Over a mile to walk into town so didn't bother."
"Only downside is the rules around prams not being allowed in the carriages."
"Visited the Christmas Norfolk Lights Express and v disappointed - barely any lights alongside the train and pretty simple & no 'story' as such."
Staff and Volunteers
Pros:
"The staff are impeccably dressed in uniforms and are very friendly and knowledgeable."
"Great staff, even had a ticket master who would come round punching a hole into your ticket."
"The stations are kept impeccable and authentic as are the uniforms of the helpful, friendly station staff."
"From the start of our wonderful journey, all staff were absolutely amazing, friendly, cheerful and polite."
"I can't thank the railway enough. I have been volunteering on the line for about one and a half years now and I have met nothing but the kindest staff/volunteers and had some brilliant experiences."
"The staff are welcoming and enthusiastic, which is great to see."
"The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, and took the time to walk with us down the length of the train to the baggage car to store our pushchair for us and they were there waiting at the other end."
Cons:
"All this could have been avoided if the Guard had popped through the train to let people know there was a delay."
"Unfortunately our trip was cut short due to another engine broken down on the line so could only see half the route twice."
"For some odd reason us commoners weren’t allowed on the platform my son was destroyed all we wanted was to soak up the atmosphere."
"Our return train had an issue with its brakes however staff kept us updated, unfortunately we had to change trains and this involved a wait."
"The women at the box office was a diabolical human there was no mistake made here she deliberately didn't tell me."
"When money is more important that people lives shame on you all."
"I'm extremely disappointed. Got there to find out no steam trains running."
Value for Money
Pros:
"Thought that it was good value for money."
"Fantastic day out at quite a reasonable cost, even if you're not a heritage railway enthusiast."
"The price is slightly costly but considering all staff are volunteers and the maintenance of the tracks and the trains, it really is value for money."
"Great value all day travel on a good variety of rolling stock and steam engines."
"The price for the day is very reasonable, and permits you to jump on & off at all stations, all trains, all day."
"Reasonable price for travelling on 5.5 mile track."
"A good old railway with trips lasting about 20mins each way."
Cons:
"Lost a star as £30.50 for a single journey 2 adults, 1 child & 2 dogs is pricey."
"Think £20 pound for adults £14 children bit pricy."
"This is a really nice day out but the tickets are quite expensive as you need to buy a day ticket."
"The train ride was quite pricey at £13.50 each person, so it quickly adds up when you have a family."
"We felt it was expensive paying the same price for children as for adults."
"Cream tea is a nice option but was £28 per person including a return ticket."
"So be warned this railway is a rich man's day out families clearly not wanted and a sense of savoy about it."
