Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "The place gets this romantic old restaurant vibe."
  • "It continues to be one of the most intimate and romantic place to eat."
  • "Intimate atmosphere without pretension, welcoming staff."
  • "Decked out in candles, the only light in the place is dim, but perfect for the atmosphere it creates, which is warm and welcoming."
  • "Downstairs is dark and romantic with candlelit tables for two, and potted plants dotted on every available surface."
  • "The atmosphere was warm and romantic, perfect date spot or just a nice place to eat with friends/family."
  • "Really great atmosphere, lovely candle light and feels cosy."

Cons:

  • "We were sat by the front door which meant we were cold, our tablecloth blew over our food every time the door opened."
  • "Lack of lighting."
  • "However, we unfortunately have to mark it down quite substantially on ambience."
  • "The other guests were incredibly noisy, and completely ruined our night."
  • "The inside was not nice. It is not pretty as the outside so you don't feel in a nice environment."
  • "Very noisy too."
  • "We were led to the upstairs to a dark room with no music or other people."

Service

Pros:

  • "Staff were apologetic but never checked back in with us at any point."
  • "The waiters are good and attentive."
  • "Staff were friendly and helpful."
  • "Service was still fast and friendly."
  • "Fantastic service, great French food! Lovely night out with friends in the week or great for a quiet date."
  • "The staff were welcoming and pleasant, providing excellent service, despite being a small team."
  • "Service is relatively attentive but slow coming and it wasn't on form last night."

Cons:

  • "Not so great for larger groups though, been there once as a group of 12 and the waitress could've have made it more obvious that she really wasn't in the mood for dealing with a group that size."
  • "Service from the staff wasn't 100% friendly and comfortable as all the pass 10 years I been here with my wife."
  • "The service was very poor - they mixed up 3 different orders from 3 tables."
  • "The service was slightly odd, I was bumped frequently by the staff member who were clearing the table as people were still eating and we got the impression we were being rushed out somewhat."
  • "This was made even worse for our nut-allergic friend, who, on informing the waiter off her dietary requirement, did not hear from him again until she was simply served her duck without a sauce."
  • "We reserved a table for 19:30 - we arrived at 19:40 and were told to wait 10-15 minutes outside. We did, but other people skipped ahead of us and nothing was communicated to us, so we just left. Terrible service."
  • "The service was very disorganised."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Steak fresh and delicious, Duck succulent."
  • "Had the 3-course prix fixe menu which was really lovely, and great value for money."
  • "The food was delicious, I had the chicken sataras and my partner had the steak."
  • "The food was seriously good, I recommend the pork belly. DELICIOUS."
  • "Really good food, classic French bistro feel and menu, prompt service and lovely atmosphere."
  • "I had an excellent grilled salmon with beautifully done spinach, my friends had raclette, which was apparently lovely."
  • "The food was delightful."

Cons:

  • "The overall taste and composition of dishes was a little lacklustre."
  • "All of ours were cooked through, with no trace of pink. The result was dry, bland, and unappetizing."
  • "The food was very very poor - duck and pork belly mains were both very tough and overcooked and lacking of any flavour."
  • "Our mussels were cold, prawns were too breaded and served with some sad spinach leaves in a poor dressing."
  • "The food was completely average (overcooked duck with grey potatoes, chicken liver pate with about enough bread to eat a third of it)."
  • "The mains however were rather disappointing in comparison, we ordered the Ribeye Steak and the Roast Duck. The steak was lacking flavour but the pepper corn sauce saved the dish. The duck was really dry and sadly the sauce couldn’t save it."
  • "Each course was barely edible and the mussels were off."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Consistently great."
  • "Good food, and really amazing value."
  • "Amazing value, well cooked, simple food and great service."
  • "My bill with 2 mains (all at £8.95), 2 sides, 2 desserts, 1 coffee and a bottle of wine was £44 - which in London, is almost unheard of, unless you want pizza."
  • "We did the party offer that was £16.80 for three courses and the portions were huge!"
  • "Great honest food, excellent prices and very tasty."
  • "Just about the most affordable and reliable bistro in town, still doing what it's done for years - serving up classic French dishes."
