Atmosphere and Venue

Pros:

  • "Really nice and relaxed place. Also dog-friendly, which is a massive plus!"
  • "It's a wonderful building, tastefully furnished, and with a great atmosphere."
  • "Great vibe, appears to have a good range on the menu. Lots of space too."
  • "Good contemporary feel inside with unexpected beer garden at the rear."
  • "Nice atmosphere, suits all sorts of people, friendly service."
  • "Lovely child friendly, 2 floor ale house. Luxury beer and fridge."
  • "Central location, bright and welcoming, kid and buggy friendly too."
  • "This is a lovely building, lovely kind staff and very sociable opening hours."

Cons:

  • "Well kept beer and a great selection to choose from. I did not eat. The atmosphere was good but with the bigger venue it has lost some of the atmosphere as it was not very busy."
  • "Unfortunately the seats were rather uncomfortable and it was very cold."
  • "It seemed to be a little cramped, but I still enjoyed this moment and my excellent coffee."
  • "Service was extremely slow, waited an hour & a half for basic breakfast dishes which came over done & luke warm, staff were very timid & looked almost scared, will not re visit unfortunately."

Food and Drink Quality

Pros:

  • "PIZZA IS JUST AMAZING! Do come in and try for yourself!"
  • "Exceptional food - everything was spot on, someone in the kitchen really knows what they’re doing!"
  • "The pizzas are excellent, and the chips... The best I've had in a long time."
  • "Delicious food, well made tea & coffee and a great atmosphere."
  • "Beautiful fresh hand made pizza, cooked to perfection, one of the only places I've been that can make poutine properly."
  • "Great coffee, great pizza, great place! Much bigger than it looks from the outside."
  • "Absolutely gorgeous food. Had Cheesy Garlic Pizza with Extra Pepperoni and it was so nice."
  • "Awesome place. Amazing beer selection, plenty of other drinks as well. Nice upstairs with good friendly atmosphere. Food is absolutely outstanding."

Cons:

  • "The bacon was rock hard, like it had been re-cooked several times, the beans were hard, cold and had a funny taste, like they were mixed with blended tinned tomatoes and the black pudding was hard and overcooked."
  • "Had the poutine, basically a bowl of oven chip and bisto with some feta crumbled over. Tasted of absolutely nothing, have to say it was really poor and a massive disappointment."
  • "I've been to starling a few times and i have had generally good experiences, but I have to say their poutine is really not good."
  • "American pancakes were stale and a consistency more like scones, really disappointed, the bloody Mary’s lacked finesse and missing ingredients stated on the menu, not what you’d expect for a £10 drink!"
  • "The scrambled eggs were really good, but the pancakes were kind of dry. The toast received was very burnt. It also took a very long time for the food to come out."
  • "Poutine was underwhelming, Halloumi wrap ok but overall felt overpriced for what we got."
  • "Really disappointing brunch. I ordered avocado, chilli and poached egg on toast. The bread was burned, like completely black."
  • "Usually it is very nice here and was our go to place. However service and quality of food of late has started to be a bit hit and miss. On our last visit I had ham and egg pizza, but the egg was hard and still contained bits of shell."
