  • "Disabled access with plenty of room to manoeuvre pushchairs or wheelchairs."
  • "Free Car parking is available with spaces for coaches and disability spaces."
  • "Council run toilets free to use near water fountain, well maintained kids park, and plenty of parking."

Cons:

  • "Needs to expand parking space, it's always busy."
  • "The only downside is if you plan to go to park early on a Saturday, it's best to not go approx between 9 and 11am you won't get parked because it's busy with runner's."
  • "Although the ice cream vans expensive."
  • "The one thing is missing is to have the toilets open, then I would have spent even more time around."
  • "Only issue can be parking. Google maps does not know where the car park entrance is - it's actually on the road at the top of the park, not the side."
  • "The park is well maintained, however parking is always on the tight side. Not enough spaces."
  • "BUT don't need the toilet after 3.00pm as that is when the toilets close."

Play Areas

Pros:

  • "The playground is good too, lots of all ages & in very good condition."
  • "The playpark is amazing with many things I hadn't seen before."
  • "Has 2 children play areas. 1 all inclusive accessible."
  • "There are modern and safe play areas for children."
  • "There are two big play areas, one for smaller children with disabled accessible equipments, and one for the bigger kids."
  • "The new playpark is excellent though, with equipment suitable for wheelchair users which is a really good touch."
  • "One play area is of a great design it called pals it is short for play as one which specially designed (swing and roundabout, and slide, basket swing) for children with disabilities to play with all children great to see them play as one."

Cons:

  • "Shame the main attraction (the peacocks) have to depend on donations rather than the council to get made comfortable and fed."
  • "Beautiful park and a really lovely play area but do watch your kiddiewinks as my daughter ended up with a huge bump and bruise from the hand zip line coming back and hitting her very hard in the head."
  • "The gardens used to be more impressive but have been affected by financial cutbacks."
  • "There's one section of the play park that's a bit dangerous."
  • "There's one section of the play park that's a bit dangerous as it has an open side and no easy way for a parent to navigate around quickly if need be due to the level change."
  • "Some areas not suitable for wheel chairs."
  • "However, recently some 14 year olds harassed and killed one of them so the park officials secured the remaining birds."

Wildlife and Nature

Pros:

  • "Lots of different beautiful birds, the gorgeous peacocks, lots benches and places to sit down and take it all in."
  • "The highlight for the kids was seeing the peacocks."
  • "One of Scotland's loveliest parks. It's full of secret paths and places to get lost."
  • "Really quite smitten with this park! Some great views of the tops of the bridges and the Edinburgh Pentlands."
  • "One of my favorite parks in all of Scotland! There is so much beauty to see from gardens to the most lovely glen and forest walk bursting with wildlife."
  • "A large variety of wildlife also to be spotted throughout the year."
  • "The peacocks roam freely and are a constant attraction to visitors as are the grey squirrels that also run around freely."

Cons:

  • "A large proportion of the dog owners encountered here have unruly beasts that are allowed to soil everywhere and anywhere."
  • "But please keep dogs on the lead within the park as per the clear signage."
  • "Not everyone going to a park likes dogs and the last thing they want is to have a mucky dog jump up on them."
  • "Just don't tell the sspca about the obesity epidemic sweeping the almost tame (grey) squirrel population....most have now lost the ability to climb and may punch a passing dog or wayward child."
  • "River area is dark and damp."
  • "Is peaceful at places an lots of tracks to explore sadly some pathways are to bad an have been shut off would be nice if the did them up so we can see some of this talked about history."
  • "It's a nice looking place great walk, but my god is it dodgy. A lot of horrible things have happened there especially recently."

Food and Beverage Facilities

Pros:

  • "There is also a nice cafe in the park selling tea, coffee, sandwiches, chips, ice creams and other simple lunch foods."
  • "Great place for a leisurely walk and a wee coffee at the peacock restaurant."
  • "The 'Peacock Rooms' licensed tearooms provide a great haven for people to meet and refuel with coffee's, teas, snacks and drinks available either Indoor or on the spacious veranda."
  • "Went to the cafe for lunch afterwards, lovely food."
  • "The Peacocks Cafe has just amazing scones. Light, fluffy and huge."
  • "The cafe has a good range of food, though the scones run out too quickly - they're excellent if you can get one."
  • "The cafe was lovely too, great staff & good food."

Cons:

  • "Have had a couple of issues with the quality of the food and service in the cafe which isn't great."
  • "The restaurant prices are reasonable, but, for a family, they may prove to be out of reach."
  • "However, DO NOT buy a coffee at the Pavilion, you will automatically be given a large one, you will not be asked large or small, the coffee was the worst we have ever had."
  • "The cafe was closed so no toilet facilities in whole of the park."
  • "The only draw back was the ice cream van was on the expensive side."
