Park Facilities

Pros:

  • "Tennis courts, children's play area and I've seen boxing tuition going on too."

  • "The park has various sports fields including a small golf course and bowling green."
  • "Great massive park with pond, hothouse tennis courts 5 aside pitches and do a weekly fresh produce market at the weekends and playparks for the kids x."

Cons:

  • "Pity the Glasshouse closed, though, as loved the hothouse plants and wee menagerie - especially the budgies."
  • "The park has no toilet facilities."
  • "Park looks beautiful on a sunny day but the playpark was padlocked and closed, with many of the climbing areas fenced off."
  • "It's a shame where you can see flower beds and other areas overgrown and broken...which highlights the cut backs the parks dept is under funded & manned."
  • "Sad that the glass house is still closed for maintenance as it has been years now :( used to visit several times a week when the kids were younger."
  • "There's a rumour that bowling and pitch'n'putt facilities may be being discontinued, which would be a great shame!"
  • "The park does not currently have any public toilets."

Safety and Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "So clean and peaceful."
  • "Very nice & well maintained despite present covid situation, well done to all the staff working during this difficult time, you all deserve lots of praise, 'or a bonus for your dedication' for your hard work."
  • "Lovely big park. Very well maintained. The vivarium is a great little spot to take children to, lots of interesting things for them to see, particular as it's free of charge."
  • "Beautiful Place to spend some quality time with friends and family."
  • "The park itself is quite scenic with a few places to visit and different facilities."
  • "Lovely park in South side of glasgow. Lots of things to do and amazing views over the city. Great for walking the dog with lots of good places for dogs to run around."

Cons:

  • "I am only giving it 4 stars as it is not a safe park at night. No lighting what so ever."
  • "Graffiti all over the pond hit, litter at the entrance was disgraceful."
  • "A lot of rubbish around and a bit of graffiti near the pond which is a shame."
  • "But bins were full and overflowing next to the catering van and a lot of litter around the pond."
  • "Dangerous and shambolic."
  • "Didn’t get any good vibes ... went in the afternoon and it was crowded... Smell of weed everywhere as if people smoking pot in the woods."
  • "Shocking dirty mess of a place really gone down the pan."

Nature and Scenery

Pros:

  • "Love this park, it's such a nice place for a walk and is always bigger than I expect it to be. There is a wonderful view from the flagpole, a picturesque lake and many paths to walk on."
  • "At the top/east of the park is the flagpole viewpoint, with a steep walk up to the top. It provides beautiful panoramic views of Glasgow as well as the distant Kilpatrick hills and hills at the Southern edges of Loch Lomond."

  • "A scenic and calm site!! It's luxuriant with greenery, beautiful trees, ample space to play, walk, jog."
  • "The park itself is very well looked after beautiful trees to look at and the pond is lovely just to sit and look at."

Cons:

  • "I would avoid the park at night, the park has a bad reputation for crime."
  • "Just not the same as it was 30 years ago. The people have changed, but the park has not."
  • "Like most parks and green spaces in Glasgow, it's a bit neglected and run down and not maintained."
  • "The paths aren't very accessible or comfortable for wheelchair users."
  • "Not as beautiful as it was portrayed to be in the photos and by the general public."
  • "Spoiled only by the usual problem of out of control or downright aggressive dogs off the leash."
  • "Very big and beautiful park. Just one big issue that dogs are everywhere and open. Either council should make a separate place or do not allow to park at all."
