Accessibility

Pros:

  • "It was very easy to navigate with my wheelchair."
  • "The access is all step free on nice even ground with lots of walks around and you can drive right up to the cafe with permission for those with mobility issues."
  • "Plenty parking and those with a blue badge can get parked right next to the kelpies."
  • "Fully accessible to all and dog friendly (on lead)."
  • "It's a very nice and accessible walk by the canals (also for wheelchairs), which takes about 20 minutes from the first parking area."
  • "There's 2 sets of toilets on site both accessible, one beside the car park and the other in the cafe/visitor center/gift shop complex."
  • "As you reach there is a free car park with ~5 minutes walk or you can pay and park right next to the entrance."

Cons:

  • "Car park is a little bit away from the actual Kelpies if you are visiting with disabled people."
  • "We could no find any kind of shelter, as the coffee shop was shut, we could not find a toilet either, not very nice."
  • "We had our dogs and found that they’re not allowed inside the shop, not sure why?"
  • "No public transport to the park or the Kelpies. A 40 minute walk from the railway station in the town."
  • "Could be a hassle to get there, though, as public transport/Uber isn't an option and it's quite the trek from Falkirk."
  • "The negative is the amount of people on bikes that don't give a thought for pedestrians."
  • "Wish they had enough indoor space nearby to take shelter as it can get very cold sometimes due to open space."

Parking

Pros:

  • "Daytime car parking charge was under £3 for 2 hours."
  • "Easy (cheap) parking."
  • "Parking is free and the visit itself is also free if you don't mind a short walk."
  • "Ample, safe parking nearby."
  • "Plenty of parking available. Parking cost us £3."
  • "Parking is free again the 1st car park but long walk to the park. Drive down and its £4 all day."
  • "Free parking is an easy 10 minute walk."

Cons:

  • "The nearest parking space has a cost of £4."
  • "Also its quite expensive for parking £3 (free in the winter) but that lasts you all day, and there're 2 car parks one closes early and the road is gated off."
  • "On the second visit we decided to call in for coffee and cake but this time we found out that the car park charge was £4."
  • "Parking £4 card swipe."
  • "Parking was a bit much for a short visit so make sure you spend longer here and explore the surroundings."
  • "Parking is contactless only and is £2."
  • "Parking charge is £4 as it is not much expensive."

Visitor Experience

Pros:

  • "Nice little gift shop and cafe."
  • "Food and drinks from visitor centre were all good, toilets were clean and decent."
  • "The sculptures are breathtaking, the light filters through and it's just stunning to witness."
  • "Got a nice welcome at the reception (as usual)."
  • "The story of the Kelpies is fascinating, and the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful."
  • "The Kelpies are amazing. They really are magnificent to look at, so tall."
  • "The Kelpies are HUGE and really amazing to see. Very wild and majestic, despite their steel plate construction."

Cons:

  • "Save your time and money—what’s shared during the 30-minute locked-in spiel can easily be Googled."
  • "While the statue itself is impressive, the guided tour leaves much to be desired."
  • "Disappointed that there were no information boards to be seen around them unless you paid for a guide book from the gift shop, or looked it up on good ole Google."
  • "However, we waited till 8.30 pm to see the Kelpies lit up but no luck and on the way back the road was very dimly lit till we reached the main road."
  • "But other than sculpture you can only get tea/coffee and have a walk there. Not much else around."
  • "The food we were served was hardly warm & it seemed to us we were served food that had been standing out for hours as apart from the cold chips our pizza was so dried up we could hardly cut it."
  • "Downside is the poor quality of food in the cafe. It is very reasonably priced but limited menu. The pizza was dried out to the extent of being inedible."

Overall Value

Pros:

  • "They are just metallic structures bolted together but there is something so majestic, enthralling and captivating about them that I could have stayed for hours."
  • "Defo worth a visit guys 😁 been living in Glasgow for over 5 years and just got round to seeing these beauts, absolutely stunning."

  • "Kelpies are magical and quite stunning."
  • "The sculptures are ginormous, and surrounded by a canal on one side and the river on the other side, with walking trails, very very beautiful indeed."
  • "Magic, dream come true to visit."
  • "What makes the Kelpies even more captivating is the way they pay homage to Scottish folklore."

Cons:

  • "They look like two big monstrosities and when u look inside both if them, one has a pool of water on the ground & the other one has not."
  • "Now I too wasn't overjoyed at visiting some metal horses."
  • "I wouldn't recommend it if you are especially planning to visit this as I feel it's just overrated."
