Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Bangers and mash and burgers were the best we had on this trip."
  • "The beer battered cod and chips, excellent."
  • "The Sunday roast was amazing. We ordered the beef rump and vegetarian wellington and highly recommend the dishes."
  • "They have a great selection of drinks and the food was amazing."
  • "Great food - the burger was very tasty, and the sausages as well."
  • "The food was excellent. We had the smoked ham, egg and chips, the fish and chips and for dessert the sticky toffee pudding."
  • "The food was delicious special mention to the fish."

Cons:

  • "We had to wait a while for food. The fish wasn't quite cooked."
  • "The fish was a very small, dry fillet in a dry crust, hard at the edges and definitely not crisp."
  • "The food is very expensive without giving any value in return, not to say that it is disgusting."
  • "The seats were uncomfortable and the food was super bland."
  • "The menu sounds exotic but unless you like paying £8.50 for an Egg and pea sandwich - on supermarket sliced bread! - it would be best to stick to the drinks."
  • "Nice venue and staff but disappointed by the Sunday roasts."
  • "Nice location and bar, but Sunday roast was pretty sub-par for the price - potatoes and parsnips not cooked in middle, stodgy solid Yorkshire pudding."

Service

Pros:

  • "Good selection of drinks, nice and friendly bar staff, lovely to sit outdoors in the summer and the food is good and served until late."
  • "The staff could not be more accommodating if they tried. Warm and friendly and attentive."
  • "Everyone enjoyed the party – including the birthday boy – and all said how friendly and great the staff were."
  • "Friendly staff, especially the young man at the bar - we felt very welcome."
  • "Staff were really friendly and coped very well with the sudden influx of people."
  • "Staff atención was excellent. Friendly and professional even though they were working under pressure."
  • "The staff were very helpful, efficient and service was exceptional."

Cons:

  • "I think I got over charged! Had a burger meal which was £14.50, Fish and Chips £15.00, Tia Maria with normal coke plus a beer. Cost me £43.65."
  • "Absolute rip off! £23 for a pint of beer and double gin! Morbid as sin staff .. slippery bar floor. Dirty toilets."
  • "It’s not busy, I asked for chips and still waiting 30+min. Slow service and the staff are not very helpful!!"
  • "The waiting time is forever so that's not the place where you would go for a lunch and the staff is extremely unfriendly."
  • "Service was slow. I had to ask several times for the staff to take my order for food."
  • "Very poor customer service provided by the manager called Debora. Extremely rude, useless, arrogant and helpless."
  • "Even though the place wasn't busy, the bartender asked us to grab our drinks from the bar and service was a little slow."

Ambiance and Location

Pros:

  • "For a central London pub, it’s rare to find one that really stands out, but this place does."
  • "Great pub with good food right on the river Thames and opposite the SIS Building which houses the headquarters of the British Secret Intelligence Service."
  • "Amazing pub, great location with the river across the road."
  • "Lovely classic Young's pub located in a prime position overlooking the Thames and a few hundred metres from Tate Britain."
  • "The highlight of the pub is the upstairs view of MI5 on the opposite riverbank, the pub very kindly provides binoculars to spy on them."
  • "Lots of outdoor seating - some of it covered - to view the MI6 building across the Thames."
  • "Views across Thames from upstairs dining room with spy memorabilia."

Cons:

  • "It was very quiet so the ambiance was a bit flat."
  • "A bit dull and very expensive without the ambiance of an upscale place."
  • "Straight away nice atmosphere and staff were welcoming... Unfortunately it was by the front door where all the smokers stood and puffed away."
  • "The Morpeth is local to me though I havn't been in for a few weeks. Decided to meet a mate there for a catch up Friday night. It seems that there has been a mini refurb where all the soft furnishings have been removed. Couldn't hear myself think let alone hold a conversation with anyone. Nothing to absorb the noise."
  • "The only ghastly thing about this place is the music they play, rather too loudly."
  • "Rude bar staff who ignore you repeatedly while you stand at the bar."
  • "The pub is tired, the food disappointing and the staff not really interested."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Despite what some reviewers have said, prices are definitely reasonable for the food you get."
  • "The party food was made with care and provided great value for money."
  • "Was pleasantly surprised by the prices."
  • "Good value, served well, and hot food on hot plates!"
  • "The current deals for the eat out to help out are frankly ridiculously good."
  • "Very decent prices too (for London!) - £38.50 for two roasts, 1 meat and 1 vegetarian, and two drinks!"
  • "Drink prices are good and recommend the classic burger with an egg if you're hungry."

  • "The food is very expensive without giving any value in return, not to say that it is disgusting."
  • "A bit dull and very expensive without the ambiance of an upscale place."
  • "A bit overpriced but given the area that is expected."
  • "Decent meal but my goodness, the drinks were expensive."
  • "Nice location and bar, but Sunday roast was pretty sub-par for the price - potatoes and parsnips not cooked in middle, stodgy solid Yorkshire pudding."
