Food Quality

Pros:

  • "One of the best roasts in the area on a Sunday and unlike other pubs they do not run out by 2pm!"
  • "The chef and food are great. Above average price but worth it."
  • "Friendly staff very tasty food good portions."
  • "Food superb, burgers stellar."
  • "The food (only had a roast so far) was excellent. Fresh ingredients cooked very well, clearly a well run kitchen."
  • "Had the chicken roast and was delicious."
  • "The food seemed very reasonable and high quality."

Cons:

  • "Visited for a sunday roast... both my boyfriend and I had the beef, which was very difficult to cut and extremely chewy - I couldn't eat the majority of mine."
  • "The rest of the roast wasn't very nice."
  • "However found the bar menu quite expensive and small portions."
  • "The only disappointing thing was the lack of choice on the menu."
  • "The burgers are overcooked and dry with a lack of any flavour."
  • "Went for a meal after work with friends, food served burned and tasteless, fish and chips burnt and rest of the order with my other friends was too salty!"
  • "The beef shin nuggets (£8.50 /nearly £3 each!) Weren't very nice or worth the money."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Previously would have given this place a 3 star review, but since the change of ownership the place has had a new lease of life. Great selection of beer, good food and very friendly staff. A massive improvement."
  • "The staff is friendly and helpful."
  • "Friendly staff and fantastic drinks."
  • "First of all the bar staff and customer service was excellent."
  • "Extremely friendly and welcoming staff, always greeted by smiling faces and the vibe is always on point."
  • "The service was so friendly and the only place nearby who could fit us in on a Friday night."
  • "Our much loved local pub. Amazing staff, lovely interior, feels like home."

Cons:

  • "Received no greeting from single member of staff as we wondered from table to table in a pretty much empty pub."
  • "Terrible bar service - several times I’ve been stood waiting at the bar and the staff have served several people who arrived at the bar after me, before even acknowledging me."
  • "The service was fairly poor, slow and not very accommodating/welcoming."
  • "The bar man was so pompous I had to intervene and demand a refund."
  • "At least some of the staff were slow and not very attentive or friendly despite the place being relatively quiet."
  • "Our main server seemed completely disconnected."
  • "However I can't recommend it at all due to the staff and management."

Ambience and Decor

Pros:

  • "A really very stylish pub with a very nice outside seating area."
  • "It's very nicely decorated and clean."
  • "The pub is well decorated and it has a garden too which is perfect for sunny days."
  • "Beautiful well thought out outdoor area, relaxed atmosphere."
  • "The pub is huge and has plenty of seating. There's a really nice living wall, which gives the place a nice character."
  • "Lovely deco and customer service."
  • "Such a lovely pub. I felt at home and the atmosphere was great."

Cons:

  • "Decor is misplaced, menu is expensive for what it is and the music is so loud it's impossible to have a conversation."
  • "Came here 5 months ago, and had occasionally visited before. It used to be so Light and cosy here. So airy and fresh. We came back yesterday evening as we hadn't been for a while. It's changed hands yet again. This time for the worst!"
  • "The location is great but how the place is run nowadays makes it a lost opportunity - it's such a shame."
  • "I honestly don't know what owners do to this place, it could be great as it's potentially a really good venue, but I just don't like it whatever they do to it."
  • "This pub was called St.Germains years ago... Since then its closed, opened, closed again and opened. The current version is a lot better than the last, but I still find this place lacking in atmosphere and soul."
  • "It was pretty dead while we were there, so there wasn't much atmosphere, but I imagine it would be much better during busier periods."
  • "Used to be quite a nice pub, but recent renovation has turned the place into a pub/club."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Family late lunch. Simple menu, burgers and burgers with a veg option. Reasonably priced, tasty food served hot and by cheerful staff."
  • "The food is lovely and there is a wide selection of beers."
  • "The food (only had a roast so far) was excellent. Fresh ingredients cooked very well, clearly a well run kitchen."
  • "The food seemed very reasonable and high quality."
  • "Nice enough place with a decent pint of Guinness. Good outdoor space to catch a few rays of sunshine. Very family oriented. Where it should really do much better is the service."
  • "Bots our Sunday roasts (one beef, one chicken) were magnificent and the portions, very generous."
  • "The food is excellent and the cheese board very satisfying, not just the quality but also the quantity!"

Cons:

  • "Food menu fairly restricted to a range of burgers with just a few other choices, fairly expensive for what you get."
  • "However found the bar menu quite expensive and small portions."
  • "The Bang burgers are outrageously priced, a burger and chips with a pint should not be costing more than £20 a ten minute walk away from a Zone 3 overground stop."
  • "Rather regimented and so we left £50 lighter."
  • "The beers are massively overpriced and the burger I had was of a similar quality I would expect from a wetherspoons."
  • "Apple Juice and Orange Juice in 1/2 pint glass, plain, straight out of the box. Charged as 1 pint each: £3.80 per glass is way too expensive."
  • "The quality of food was varied at the lower end of the spectrum, certainly not what you expect for the rather bullish pricing."
