Playground and Activities
Pros:
"This is a vast park, with a lot of play equipment to cover toddlers through to teenagers or even adults if they so wish."
"It was national Kite day. Great event for the children to get out and enjoy some good outdoor fun."
"Open areas for children to play."
"Lovely kids playground in the park, nice attractions and some good spots for parents to sit down and oversee the playground!"
"The play area is great. It got so many different things."
"They hold festivals like garage nation here yearly."
"Children's swings, monkey bars, climbing frames, skating section and activity area for toddlers."
Cons:
"People flying drones above your head can be annoying when you’re trying to drift off in the summer sun."
"It seems like if the kids don't know each other then they have to be rude and spiteful, or parents can be quite ignorant and rude."
"The playground bores after a very short time and they don't get much of a chance to go into the paddling pool when it's packed as all the other kids push and shove each other."
"The park at Streatham Common... There are a few design flaws such muddy slip areas and there isn't access to each play area."
"It's a common, heavily used and now with a kids playground, including some green space sadly destroyed by kids who could not wait for that section to be opened."
"Can be a bit busy when concerts are on, or when the fair is there."
"Streatham Common seems very bland really just an open space."
Facilities and Maintenance
Pros:
"Parking isn't too bad either and it's very easy to find, with access from everywhere."
"There is little cafe on the site."
"The Rookery Café for great coffee!"
"There is a bus stop right outside if you are travelling from Brixton and bus stop on the other side of the road with traffic lights for a safe crossing with little people."
"Good transport links nearby too."
"The garden is a beautiful open grassy area on entry, tree lined and covered walkways and open space pave ways and steps lined full of plants and flowers, a water feature in the centre, many seats dashed about the area."
"You can usually get a parking space alongside the southside of the common."
Cons:
"I would say very pricey, I took my 2 grandchildren there, I ordered 2 burger and chips and I order of chips and a tea and two soft drinks for the kids and it was £38.00 I think this is very expensive for what you get."
"However, when it rains for longer, it becomes an absolute mud fest."
"Technically was very disappointing as the plants were dead..."
"There is a cafe but it is not open most of the times."
"Toilets were disgusting though..I walked with my disinfectant wipes and spray, I had my daughter with me, didn't want her to accidentally touch anything in there."
"The toilets are not the best and could be either maintained better or rebuilt."
"The car park is currently taken over as a covid testing site."
Events and Atmosphere
Pros:
"Went to the kite festival so was very busy but a lovely atmosphere all the same."
"A lovely park with a little playground for kids. Lots of dust bins, just wish everyone would make use of them."
"Streatham Common can entertain a family for hours over a sunny weekend."
"A very popular park that is nestled between rows of trendy bars, restaurants and salons to keep many budget friendly revelers or those that wish to splash the cash."
"Beautiful greeny and peaceful area. Excellent for families, many outstanding schools for all ages."
"Great place to visit especially in the summer months. Loads of events throughout the year."
"this common is buzzing with lots of different activities... a fabulous cafe in the heart of the common serving good food and great coffee to the community."
Cons:
"Went for kite day, great atmosphere but not enough food and drink stalls, the queues were way too long."
"Nice little greenery full of dogs and children wishing they were elsewhere. Every now and then the common is tainted by the oxymoronic 'Fun' Fair."
"Shame the wind kept dying down or more kites would have been flying."
"Went to the common to attend the fair, but decided against it, having to pay an admission fee on top of fees for the rides."
"As it's winter, it was extremely hard to socially distance here as there's obviously a lot of mud."
"When it rains a lot the lower grounds become swampy."
"Can be a bit busy when concerts are on, or when the fair is there."
