  • "Kindly asked how long our food would take (having ordered 40-mins prior) and was met with a foul response from a lady ‘managing the bar’ that I was “disgusting” for asking the question!"
  • "The guy just blanked us at the bar and went to some people who had just come in and served them."

Cons:

  • "The food is OK, although my Chicken Kyiv wasn't a good choice."
  • "The actual food looked and tasted like microwave food or cooked from frozen except for macaroni and cheese."

Ambiance and Location

Pros:

  • "This pub has a lovely atmosphere."
  • "A lovely old pub with heaps of character."
  • "Loved dining where so many in history sat before us."
  • "Some amazing history and some cool old rooms inside."
  • "An awesome place to stop for a pint."
  • "The entrance to the large courtyard is through a metal arch off Borough High Street, offering plenty of outdoor seating for fair weather drinking."
  • "I would also like to mention that the building and the grounds are kept in lovely condition and looked resplendent with flowers."

Cons:

  • "A trip to the toilets and there was wet cardboard all over the floors leading to the toilets and a rat/mouse infestation box in the corridor."
  • "The pub itself is fairly small, so it can get cramped in the winter."
  • "The back building genuinely just smelled like urine, it was a bit nauseating to wait for a drink."
  • "Lacked something special that I was expecting from the 'oldest ale house in London'."
  • "Massive change of staff since I last visited, new set aren't as friendly."
  • "It was very cold in the bar."
  • "Smells old, wonky floors mean wonky tables, so tiny and packed and queues were ridiculous just to order a couple drinks and plates so we just left."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Especially after being charged £5.20 for a lemonade and blackcurrant which wasn't even a pint."
  • "They also have some beer on tap that is local and so flipping cheap I forgot I was in London."
  • "Great selection of Greene King ales including their own George Inn Ale which is reminiscent of GK’s IPA."
  • "The prices were okay for the area."
  • "The beers, wines & spirits are varied & good value for the centre of London."
  • "Good beer, decent food all great value, will definitely recommend and return soon."
  • "Highly recommended if visiting London."

Cons:

  • "The menu had changed with fewer items on offer than before."
  • "We were up sold some onion rings... Enough to share apparently...5 onion rings arrived at cost of £3.50. Stone cold."
  • "The only downside is that a lot of the surrounding area has not faired so well and some of the views are a little ugly."
  • "Kitchen clearly not up to job that day so paid (90 quid for 3 mains and 3 drinks) and left."
  • "Not sure why it’s gone downhill so much as have been a couple of times, today at lunch was incredibly disappointed numerous options out of stock, cold sandwiches with no suitable option to heat as filling is pre made."
  • "4 stars because some areas have been adapted for modern use in a less than sympathetic way."
  • "Sometimes history is not enough justification for a visit."

Facilities and Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "2 sets of toilets..one at far back and one at the front in a separate building."
  • "Clean toilets available (on the ground floor and on the first floor also)."
  • "The lady behind the bar was cleaning the cask ale pipes and it shows how much this bar value clean pipes."
  • "They do have outside heaters."
  • "Historic pub in Borough. Retains original coaching inn features."
  • "Great pub, very old characteristics to go with it's long history."
  • "It's around 350 years old and is a National Trust pub."

Cons:
