Ambiance and Location

Pros:

  • "A surprisingly sophisticated and pleasing upgrade to the rustic Richmond favourite."
  • "Located over the road from Imperial College London with a continental cafe ambiance."
  • "The atmosphere is so peaceful! Highly recommended!"
  • "Different to standard pubs, this place has a more sophisticated vibe and a more classic feel."
  • "The atmosphere though... it's a bit odd... Now I get it's Kensington so the restaurant is always going to have that going against it."
  • "Unassuming, this great. Cozy place sits across the university in one of the old villas."
  • "The vibe is cosy and relaxed with a minimalist ‘ski chalet’ decor."

Cons:

  • "The bench seating is a horrendous idea, and resulted in us rubbing backs and elbows with the people on the bench behind us throughout the entire meal."
  • "Whenever in the area I always visit this place for wonderfully tasty pint of draught Erdinger. Perfectly poured pint in an understated yet modern looking interior (in a Scandi style)."
  • "The restaurant looks good. However; given the modern interior you get the impression of being in Asian restaurant, apart from the massive cowbell on the ceiling."
  • "Very calm nicely lit restaurant, right opposite Imperial College and well situated for the museums."
  • "I think it was the worst lunch of my life. After 50 minutes of waiting, I received a dish that I did not order."

Service Quality

Pros:

  • "Service was friendly and efficient. Thank you guys."
  • "The staff is super friendly and helpful, the location is a hidden gem."
  • "The staff were very helpful and attentive and never too far away so we could always get a hold of someone when we needed something."
  • "Service was really good. Beer was really good. Terrace is lovely."
  • "The service was excellent. My entire family thought we were treated with great care and made to feel welcome."

Cons:

  • "We must have hit a bad day as, contrary to many glowing reviews, the whole experience was at times disappointing and in the end awful."
  • "The worst aspect was the poor service and lack of attentiveness."
  • "Service was good, if not slightly inattentive."
  • "We just ordered drinks, and weirdly they charged us a service fee on already expensively priced drinks."
  • "My real issue was the service. Felt like the person serving us really doesn’t care about his job."
  • "Food was good, but they automatically added a 12.5 % to the final price for service charge, without asking before, even when in the menu was written that service charge was optional."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "We had the sharing platter for two, and it was perfect if not ever so slightly extra."
  • "The Black Forest Gateaux was light, creamy and delicious, and the Sachertorte was dense and chocolaty."
  • "I got the curry wurst sausage with potatoes and really liked it! I also tried the schnitzel and really loved it!"
  • "Food are enjoyable, quality and price are decent. Good selections for different taste."
  • "I tried a beer with banana juice for the first time and enjoyed it as a nice light drink before my main."
  • "The food is sublime, as is the beer."
  • "The food was delicious."

Cons:

  • "The chicken schnitzel was tasty but the vegetables did not arrive till the chicken was finished."
  • "The food is really authentic and you don't know what you should try first."
  • "The worst aspect was the poor service and lack of attentiveness."
  • "We had a nice lunch at Stein’s Berlin. We got goulash and Bavarian meatloaf."
  • "Be careful with the prices. The shared plates prices presented in the menu are per person."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "This place has real German food and beer... also for a very reasonable price."
  • "Hugely impressed by the quality of the food here. Traditional Bavarian with a selection of beers to match."
  • "The prices are reasonable, particularly if you plan ahead and go for the early evening, two course menu."
  • "Great food, particularly the goulash. The veal schnitzel, however, was rather overpriced (£19)- and doesn’t even include a side salad."

Cons:

  • "The beer is fresh and fantastic... it still felt like great value."
  • "Not cheap but the quality and quantity totally justifies the price."
  • "Food was good quality and nice. My personal favourite was the bread basket with butter tbh."
  • "The service was a little slow and we had starters and main course delivered together which was odd!"
