Animal Variety and Exhibits

Pros:

  • "There’s animals I’ve never seen in other zoos here which was a nice experience."
  • "We finally got to actually see Scottish Wild Cats...and there were some animals there we never even knew existed!"
  • "Great range of unusual animals, takes an between an hour to 2 hours to see everything."
  • "The animals are really looked after well and there was an activity class at 11:30 that my daughter enjoyed where you prepare the food for the lemurs."
  • "We loved our visit and was our first experience at seeing a crocodile!"
  • "A good place to visit for kids, slightly expensive considering it only took about 45 minutes to see everything, but we went to the playground then walked around again to see a few of the animals that were asleep first time around."
  • "A surprising large variety of weird and wonderful animals from crocodiles to reindeers."
  • "Very nice and quiet little zoo with various animals that you don't tend to see in large zoo."

Cons:

  • "Sadly, a few parts of the zoo lie empty so it feels more disappointing with it being a small zoo."
  • "There were a lot of different animals however not all of them were there so a lot of empty spaces."
  • "Some of the enclosures were tired and needed refurbishment."
  • "A lot of the animals listed on the website were not there (armadillo, otter, mongoose, bush baby, anteater, spoonbill, stick insects)."
  • "Some of the enclosures were a little boring for the animals- I watched I think it was an armadillo on its own just going round in circles which I thought was very sad."
  • "First impressions it looks ok but when you look closer it appears quite run down some enclosures tatty some overgrown poor environment for some of the animals the otters for example have very little water to play in."
  • "Not that great. Walked around in half an hour. Not much to see."
  • "I visited with my boyfriend and my sister and by the time we left (15 minutes after arriving) I was heart broken at what I had seen."

Staff and Educational Talks

Pros:

  • "Every member of the staff was soo lovely and knowledgeable."
  • "The gentleman who did the [bird] show was great."
  • "We had the pleasure of meeting the resident Capybaras (gift from a friend) and we spent quality time and learned a great deal from the experienced keeper during the experience."
  • "The guy who did the birds display was very good he told us everything about the birds he was working with and where they were from and he was very knowledgeable."
  • "All of the staff were extremely pleasant and educated us on the various wildlife as we went around the facility."
  • "Staff are really helpful, friendly and full of knowledge."
  • "The staff are very friendly. My children had a great time and we even got to have a meet and greet with a snake."
  • "Staff so enthusiastic that they may have even convinced my daughter to go back to further education."

Cons:

  • "However the bird display in the afternoon was a joke as it lasted 15mins and we saw 3 birds."
  • "The two we went to (the reptiles and birds of the world) where a little short of creatures."
  • "The park is really worth a visit. Lots to see and plenty of knowledgeable staff to answer any questions you may have. We learnt a lot today! All the enclosures are spacious and clean, the animals are obviously very well looked after. There is a dinosaur area which our grandson enjoyed, although he loved the bat cave the most...3 times in fact! We thoroughly recommend a trip to Wild Discovery."
  • "The experience as a whole was very hands-off compared to visits elsewhere, despite wildlife being the same."

Experiences and Encounters

Pros:

  • "I did the capybara experience and it was definitely the highlight of my day."
  • "Experiences: you can pay a little extra to feed certain animals."
  • "We opted for the feeding experience for the Bats, Birds of prey, Binturong, and artic fox's."
  • "We had fun looking at the wide selection of animals and watching the bird display. My daughter and myself also did the extra activity of getting to feed the bintarong."
  • "Really loved meeting Larry, Curly, and Mo! They were sociable and happy to be petted and fed :)"
  • "The capybara experience was a blast! We could feed them, scratch them, pet them."
  • "Fantastic experience with the Capybaras - they really pulled up."
  • "We had a lovely afternoon, great variety of animals. Lovely to see enriching enclosures."

Cons:

  • "The capybara where with people that had paid £45 to spend 30 minutes with them so zoo visitors didn’t get chance to have a look at them."
  • "Paid a fortune for the Artic fox feeding experience and only got 10 minutes, so my 2 daughters got 5 minutes each."
  • "We Booked a zoo keeper experience which was sadly one of the most disappointing experiences we have been to in a while."
  • "The experience as a whole was very hands-off compared to visits elsewhere, despite wildlife being the same."

Size and Layout

Pros:

  • "You can potter round at your own speed and not miss anything."
  • "If you’re staying at Ribby hall you have to visit. You don’t need a full day to come here but a good few hours and you will see everything around the zoo."
  • "Family of 4 entry only £30. The site of the zoo could be covered in 2 hours if you're just viewing the exhibits/habitats."
  • "Single prams are no issue getting around from what I could see from guests with toddlers/babies."
  • "It's not a huge place, but great for a couple of hours. Though there is food available on the Ribby Hall site (you could leave and come back again if needed) there was nowhere actually to get food inside the zoo itself but there was a little area to eat a picnic."
  • "I'm usually not a big fan of zoos but this one was quite good with a unique selection of animals from turtles and artic foxes to bats and anteaters."
  • "We loved it here it was nice and small, just big enough for our 6 and 7 year old. We were booked in for 11am but told we could come back as many times as we liked all day, which I thought was a nice touch."
  • "A small but fantastic little zoo. A surprising large variety of weird and wonderful animals from crocodiles to reindeers."

Cons:

  • "The zoo is pretty tiny, but well kept. I think you can spend 2-2.5h there."
  • "It's a great place for a day out especially since you can re-enter Wild Discovery if you want to once you're done exploring everything else."
  • "It's quite small and compact, really positive vibes though."
  • "This was an amazing day, thank you so much to all the staff. The zoo itself will take you about 40 minutes (if you're just a walker/casual browser) or up to an hour and a half if you read the signs and don't rush each animal."
