Pros:

  • "The Talbot has a lovely charming atmosphere and I really don't mind having dinner here again when I'm in this part of town."
  • "The atmosphere is lively and full of locals but still laid back and very chill."

  • "The Talbot is a local gem. It's like walking in an old friends home, it's warm and welcoming."

Cons:

  • "The service was slow, the staff were rude and the atmosphere was stale."
  • "Inside not very comfortable although outside is where the effort has been made."
  • "Pub outdoor area is pleasant enough but somewhat spoiled by needlessly blasting DnB all afternoon."
  • "However toilets smelt like public toilets in a park. A big let down and not encouraging if revisit in the summer."

Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Everything about our lunch there was great. The food was perfectly cooked & beautifully presented."
  • "Local favourite with spacious tented patio, great beers, interesting wine list, lovely staff, and a sensational sausage roll."
  • "Sunday lunch is a must...Vegan nut roast rocks."
  • "The beef was tender and seasoned nicely however I wish it was a bit pinker, and the pork chop was massive but a little too salty."
  • "Pizza is delicious and so is all their other food."
  • "Food was very tasty and, surprisingly for a pub, steak was cooked exactly as I wanted it."
  • "Delicious roast duck what a change from the norm πŸ˜‹ pork was good too."

Cons:

  • "Abysmal food! I ordered the burger and it was like warm and dry as hell."
  • "The food is hit and miss."
  • "Chicken karaage tasted old too."
  • "We tried the food on numerous occasions, never really great and yesterdays dinner was just awful."
  • "A dry, over cooked, under seasoned tasteless piece of steak with a garnish barely evolved since the 80’s."
  • "The roast potatoes were crispy and we liked all of the other vegetables too which were all cooked well."

Service

  • "Food is very expensive and feels like it will exclude a lot of local people due to this."
  • "Attractive pub on a quiet road with a rather European aesthetic about its interior design. The only problem with this place is it’s obscenely expensive."
  • "The pub looks fantastic and it's our local so we'll go. Food is very expensive."

Family & Pet Friendliness

Pros:

  • "This placed seemed very popular with famalies with babies."
  • "The lewisham way top location, just a stick's throw from the celia hammond cat rescue centre, belies the fact that this is probably lewisham's most dog friendly pub."
  • "Loved their dog friendly but 'paws on floors' policy!"

Cons:

  • "The only kids menu options was a tomato pasta or pork ragu (several other options were unavailable)."
  • "Living in Brockley, we have a choice of two Pubs within walking distance, The Talbot or the Brockley Barge. The Barge seems to have managed to address the 'noisy' element and it is possible to have a reasonably quiet drink. The Talbot however, nice as it is, seems not to mind the fact that certain families seem to think that it is ok for their very young children to run about outside, using it as a playground."
