Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The food at The Red Lion is always delicious and tonight was exactly the same - excellent food and excellent service."
  • "The food was outstanding, good sized portions, beautifully cooked & hot."
  • "The food is always good and the staff are very friendly."
  • "The food was superb."
  • "Food was beautifully presented and very tasty."
  • "The food was fresh, hot and the best calves liver, cooked perfectly."
  • "Great food as ever."

Cons:

  • "The food was not up to the standard it used to be....maybe new chef or kitchen staff?"
  • "There was very little on the menu for vegetarians and vegans."
  • "The sticky toffee pie wasn't really sticky, more like a cake in a watery caramel sauce."
  • "The ribs were awful. Bones crumbled and majority of the plate was bone with no meat with a sauce overload."
  • "However, we were all very disappointed with our food. Everything was very greasy and a steak which had been ordered rare, was medium to well done."
  • "The roast beef and roast lamb portions were very small, the meat was tasteless and the potatoes were dry."
  • "When our food did arrive, I was shocked to find a metal bolt In my fish cake."

Service

Pros:

  • "We were well looked after, great service."
  • "The staff were very friendly and attentive."
  • "Service was highly attentive, and the staff were both welcoming and accommodating."
  • "Staff were excellent and couldn't fault anything."
  • "The staff could not do enough to help us, the food was excellent and they even accommodated us with some reserved tables in the bar after dinner to continue our celebration with more family."
  • "Staff were really great and the service was so quick."
  • "Service is excellent, food is delightful and the setting is stunning."

Cons:

  • "We went into the bar and a barman was stood at the bar eating a sandwich without and plate with food falling out of it."
  • "We were then asked to move from our table to the bar as we had run over on our booking (5 mins over), this was done quite abruptly!"
  • "APPALLING SERVICE."
  • "Yet another huge wait to try to get a bill."
  • "Service was a bit slow."
  • "We had to wait an age for the main plates to be cleared and desert orders to be taken."
  • "Wait staff need more training, even though we had booked a table there was still a wait time."

Ambience

Pros:

  • "The pub itself is lovely, very comfortable interior with a nice cosy ambience and feel to the place."
  • "Such a beautiful pub in Surrey. Good food, very good service."
  • "Wonderful garden in the back, exactly what you look for in a hot summer day!"
  • "Enviroment was nice, cosy and well decorated."
  • "Lovely seating available in their very large garden at the rear."
  • "The atmosphere in the pub is charming and there's no rush when dining."
  • "It is a cosy, friendly pub with a warm atmosphere."

Cons:

  • "Only difficulty was they really had packed the tables in for Christmastime and I was sat on a corner with servers pushing past me every minute or two."
  • "The garden was a bit detached from the pub which was a bit inconvenient."
  • "A horizontally challenged fellow diner wearing tight spandex cycling shorts and a baggy T-shirt dampened the atmosphere."
  • "Why was someone at your venue/beer garden blasting out loud music at 08:00 this morning?"
  • "It is very busy in the evening and it is not easy to find a place to sit."
  • "The table was so tight to the wall we had to climb over and it also didn't give much space for the waiters to get through."
  • "A bit pricey."

Accessibility

Pros:

  • "Car parking spacious and outdoor seating is beautiful."
  • "Lots of well organised outside space with heaters."
  • "So much space with a great outdoor area."
  • "Very family friendly, and even welcomes dogs!"
  • "They have worked a good system to keep all the customers safe and at a safe distance from each other."
  • "The whole garden set up was lovely, and the interior looked cosy, too."
  • "Very cosy mini-barn outside with patio heaters."

Cons:

  • "I would have given 5 stars, but I took one off for the fact, one of our party was in a wheelchair, and as accommodating as the staff were, the pub itself was not very wheelchair accessible!"
  • "The biggest drawback, for a pub so far out of London; it charges London prices, when the pub over the road (<10 meters away) charges considerably less."
  • "The owner approached me when I had barely finished my meal, he told me to change to another table because he wants it."
  • "He also put down a couple of extremely hot plates right next to the 2 year old at the table."
  • "After waiting some time, we were asked if we were ready to order, and explained that we hadn't been given a menu yet, and it took another 5 minutes for that to arrive."
  • "Sadly not a good review even though I do love this pub......had booked for my husband's birthday a week before & had specifically requested that we’d like a table in the patio area outside."
  • "The garden is also lovely in the summer."
