Food Quality

Pros:

  • "The BBQ lamb was nice."
  • "The food was good and there was a nice selection at reasonable prices."
  • "When the food arrived it was worth the wait. Everyone said it was excellent. Pipping hot, plenty of it and so fresh."
  • "The food was first class."
  • "Absolutely love this place! The best Sunday roast I have ever had and their Gardner burger is to die for!"
  • "The food was absolutely delicious and well needed after our walk!"
  • "The food was delicious and beautifully presented."

Cons:

  • "The only disappointment was the beef fajitas I tried on the first night which was over cooked and was not spicy/well seasoned."
  • "The BBQ ribs sauce tasted of a sweet curry with fries which weren't warm and lettuce leaves, the fajitas tasted completely different than any others I have had."
  • "Food was overpriced and average for pub grub (fish was frozen and even the waiter told us to avoid it as it was 'nasty and mushy')."
  • "Food did taste nice, just expected more for £13 for a salmon and prawn salad as mostly was salad!"
  • "The food was not bad, although the lamb was a little undercooked for our liking."
  • "worst sunday roast i ever eat ... vegetables havent been cooked properly... it was hard... for the price i get just two small bit of pork which wasnt good as well."
  • "Service was good, food is not as good as it used to be, out of 7 different plates 2 were good and the rest was mediocre."

Service

Pros:

  • "Service was prompt and polite."
  • "The staff were very friendly and attentive."
  • "The staff were very efficient and really friendly and made sure we were having a good time."
  • "Brilliant service from this family run Inn as soon as we walked through the door."
  • "The young woman who served us was attentive."
  • "The friendly staff is what made our visit complete."
  • "Very friendly and helpful staff, good food, and plenty of gluten-free options for me."

Cons:

  • "Thanks Plough Pyecombe!! You totally ruined my wife and daughters birthday today!!"
  • "We must of picked the wrong day, after waiting over an hour for food."
  • "Considering there was plenty of staff it did take a long time to be served drinks and get our food ordered after being seated and took even longer to get additional drinks and then dessert."
  • "Also the service was slow and the staff seemed to forget we were outside."
  • "Good selection of food. My only gripe was Service. We took my parents, and siblings with their husbands. And we had to ask for drinks rather than be asked if we wanted anything."
  • "Very disappointed to show up at 8pm on a Sunday with a 9:30pm closing time on their website, only to be told very bluntly that they were closed."
  • "We only had one small complaint which we kept to ourselves and that was some of our plates were cleared whilst others were still eating that shouldn't happen."

Atmosphere & Location

Pros:

  • "Great pub for a Sunday roast. Service was speedy and the lamb meat fell off the bone!"
  • "The setting is beautiful with a grant old oak at the back of the establishment lit up beautifully."
  • "It's a lovely pub with a nice atmosphere."
  • "Just such a relaxed pub, great atmosphere."
  • "The place is beautiful, the food is excellent, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming."
  • "The settings are gorgeous, it was Our First meal out as a couple and we couldn't have picked a nicer place."
  • "Lovely pub with friendly efficient staff."

Cons:

  • "Only slight letdown is that it's close to main road so there is considerable road noise."
  • "An ok place, whilst it has large gardens it is close to the A23 and noise is intrusive."
  • "On the down side rather cheesy décor and music and the constant roar of traffic if you are using outside seating."
  • "Possibly the largest beer garden I've ever seen but somewhat spoiled by the noise from the A23 right next to it."
  • "However, it's a shame dogs aren't allowed in the beer garden at the rear and therefore you have to sit out the front by the noisy car park adjacent to the duel carriageway."
  • "The staff were nice, but we didn't feel like social distancing was observed at all, which made us uncomfortable."
  • "We arrived from the South Downs Way in muddy boots and with a dog. Signs told us - no dogs inside and take off your muddy boots."

Value for Money

Pros:

  • "Great value, and really, really friendly people too!"
  • "Also, reasonably priced."

  • "Drinks were good and reasonably priced."
  • "Food arrived quickly and prices reasonable."
  • "Always a wonderful experience! Fantastic food, service and atmosphere."
  • "Great food, friendly service, and excellent atmosphere. There is plenty of parking and great value."

Cons:

  • "This is a friendly place but charged us £5.50 service charge on our bill. The whole bill for rib and chips, and ribs and salad and 2 cokes. £49.50 for this. Not good value for money."
  • "Drinks seemed very expensive and food price was OK I guess."
  • "Really great food but it shows in the price, I had chosen the crispy duck dumplings and spaghetti Bolognese for a family birthday meal."
  • "A bit pricey for two and a half pints and two bags of crisps £14.50."
  • "Relatively expensive for beer."
  • "Drinks were crazy expensive (£4.50 just for a single spirit without mixer!)."
  • "My main issue is the cost given the very ok'ish food."
