Service

Pros:

  • "Excellent service and wonderful meal, they made us feel special."
  • "The sommelier was super helpful in giving us recommendations on the wine and overall the service was attentive and friendly."

  • "No panic just lovely friendly staff."
  • "Service was very good."
  • "The service was very attentive, and caring."
  • "The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations on both food and wine."

Cons:

  • "Our table was reserved for 12:15 (only time that was available) and the staff were still preparing for the day ahead which is my only negative."
  • "One of the waitresses got our second course the other way round while another kept spilling water on the table cloth."
  • "Service wasn't impressive ie. clearing the table while some of us hadn't finished!"
  • "Service is also cluttered you are served by an array of servers which feels like some weird carousel."
  • "Manageress not that polite."
  • "We found the service unfriendly and generally untrained."
  • "Shocking dated staff who fussed too much and ignored any real requests, actually quite rude and no knowledge of the menu."

Food

Pros:

  • "Absolutely, indescribably delicious."
  • "Caramelised bananas with rum and raisin ice cream, honeycomb and a brandy-snap was a sublime combination."
  • "The crab starter was superb, one of the best starters I have had for a long time."
  • "The food here is simply amazing."
  • "Had the new crab dish on the menu which was fantastic and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had (the soufflé)."
  • "The dishes we enjoyed were Gin cured Salmon, pickles, cucumber and brown shrimp."
  • "The food is completely delicious and every mouthful is a flavour sensation."

Cons:

  • "The set menu on the other hand was just OK."
  • "The chicken dish was a little bland and the lamb was overpowered by the tapenade."
  • "The food looked exactly as described in other reviews (beautiful) but unbearably rich and unbalanced."
  • "Came here expecting miracles but was a bit disappointed, 2 of the three courses I had where over salted."
  • "The food was also served luke warm and very small portions."
  • "Very average food for Michelin star restaurant. My first course was outstanding but from there it went down hill."
  • "However, the food was extremely disappointing. I had the lamb which was tough, tasteless and overcooked."

Ambience

Pros:

  • "The atmosphere was perfect, you could have a private conversation without being crowded by other tables."
  • "Despite located off some busy roads the restaurant is discretely located."
  • "A lovely restaurant setting located in Old Clapham."
  • "It is a lovely setting."
  • "Calm, smart, upmarket atmosphere at this michie restaurant in Clapham."
  • "Always has a lovely atmosphere with service to match."
  • "Ambience: was great. Perfect size I think."

Cons:

  • "On the downside the dining room is low ceilinged which makes for a very noisy experience."
  • "Only marked down the atmosphere as we went early at lunch time."
  • "The staff do not wear mask at all (neither the kitchen nor the serving staff) so you need to make you own judgement to eat there or not."
  • "To top off half an hour before we were leaving they were ironing tables next to us and then tried to suggest we order coffee quickly because they were getting ready for a industry VIP for dinner."
  • "Sadly the whole evening was a let down."
  • "The whole booking process was bad. Accepted a reservation for 8 and then weeks later decided they didn't like that and gave a very reduced menu."
  • "My one criticism would be I wish there were a few cheaper wine options because £15+ for a glass really is expensive."
