Course Conditions

Pros:

  • "Course in generally good condition, decent signage, fairways generally wide and well maintained."
  • "Greens were fair, fairways were firm and the rough pretty penal, but as expected given the rain and sun over the last two weeks."
  • "Greens always in good condition. Ditches offer a good challenge."
  • "The course is challenging and in good shape too."
  • "Fairways generally wide and well maintained. Greens were quite soft and slow, but generally consistent."
  • "Greens were in excellent condition (better than most members courses)."
  • "It's great for beginners and open for visitors. They've got a range too."
  • "Lovely place and hard work by all staffs. The course is getting better and better everyday."

Cons:

  • "A remarkable deterioration of the course in recent years, fairways and greens long and unevenly cut."
  • "The bunkers have a lot of stones and very little sand, the tees are uneven."
  • "Conditions which have been deteriorating for some time. Greens damaged from heavy machines."
  • "The course has gone rapidly downhill last year, overplayed, the fairways overcut."
  • "Greens absolutely covered in goose droppings to the point where some were unplayable."
  • "Bunkers rock hard. Like a dry river bed. Unacceptable even for a pay and play."
  • "Played Duke's on a warm Wednesday night... the cups aren't properly cut out on pretty much every green."
  • "Driving range could use some TLC, new Mats etc."

Customer Service

Pros:

  • "Great golf course and range, staff always make me feel very welcome."
  • "The staff behind the bar (Andy, Emma & Co) are very accommodating."
  • "Staffs are very helpful and friendly. Special thank you to Andy and very positive energy staff Emma."
  • "Staff at the course are friendly and welcoming, but this is not the course to play if value a sensible pace of play."
  • "Fantastic facilities! Have yet to play on this course, as I've been rained out several times. However, staff has always been accommodating with rebooking my session to another date."
  • "Very friendly staff. Only observation after a most enjoyable visit would be that we wanted to have a drink and something to eat afterwards but the place seems to shut down at 6.00."
  • "The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating, they made a hard day a lot easier. The food was lovely."
  • "Customer service at it's worst. Need to reschedule a class. Called, texted and emailed... No one reaches out no explanation whatsoever."

Cons:

  • "I contacted the manager to complain and I had every excuse in the book thrown at me."
  • "I've notified the manager at the clubhouse who could only offer to book me a new tee time in the middle of the week."
  • "Customer service is poor... a bald man in glasses shouted at me that I have to leave the clubhouse and get the balls at the range."
  • "The most despicable experience at this golf club. The manager was horrible and patronising."
  • "Unfortunately, it seems that Michael has no interest in addressing this problem."
  • "The second email address that I was finally told to, got bounced back and then the owner left me on read."
  • "First day staff too busy talking to serve you. Second day the price of the drinks were more than the day before by over a pound."
  • "I will never ever play there again, one green looked like someone had driven over it. I asked for some money back and the staff pretty much laughed at me!!!! Never again !!!"

Pace of Play

Pros:

  • "Played Duke's on a warm Wednesday night. Course busy, as always the case here, but we got round quickly, mainly thanks to groups in front of us playing at a good pace."
  • "Played Princes course after work on a Wednesday. 3.25 hour round as a 2 ball."

Cons:

  • "Experiences recently have been let down by the painfully slow pace of play; weekends in the summer are shockingly slow."
  • "Worst pace of play I've ever experienced, and that's in November! Tee times only 7 minutes apart."
  • "It would be a four star review but for the absolute nonsense of almost every golfer on the course playing on their own."
  • "Horribly slow, with lots of beginners playing. We played 7 holes in 2 hours before deciding to give up."
  • "The course today is unplayable. Several greens are out of action as are tee boxes. The course is oversubscribed massively."
  • "Yesterday we had the unfortunate experience of playing at Richmond Park Golf Course... the pace of play was unlike anything I had ever encountered before."
  • "I thought we would give this course another go after a few disappointing experiences. If anything it’s got worse. Only play here if you want a 6+hour round."
  • "Having to wait 15 mins for each hole isn't fun. Driving range used to be good value too."
