Aerospace History and Exhibits

Pros:

  • "You realise the rich Aerospace history of Bristol."
  • "A fair number of exhibits and a comprehensive telling of the relevant history."
  • "Nice museum showcasing development of the aerospace industry in Bristol."
  • "A very good experience for somebody who's an aviation enthusiast."
  • "This museum has 3 hangers. First hanger has Bristol brand Lorry and Car, some early stage aircraft’s and later commercial and fighter planes, helicopters, missiles etc."
  • "Lots of interactive programs for the kids to be hands on."
  • "A great day out with lots to see & do for all age groups."
  • "The Aerospace Galleries also have some wonderful engines on display and marvel at their condition."

Cons:

  • "The exhibits are well organised with plenty of interaction for kids even if a few of the interactive displays weren't working at the time."
  • "However, almost everything interactive was closed by 3PM and I felt like it was a little too geared towards children."
  • "The museum is split between a timeline and history of Filton/Bristol’s Aerospace heritage, from early 18/19 hundreds through to present day. The second section is then Concord specific, with a small section on the history."
  • "The only criticism I would have is a lack of seats/benches for those that need to sit down to rest at regular intervals, especially in the Concorde hanger where there were a number of people sitting on the floor along the the back wall while watching the videos projected onto the side of Concorde."

Concorde Exhibit

Pros:

  • "The highlights of the museum include the opportunity to learn about and get onboard the Concorde."
  • "Fantastic family day out. I'm not even into airplanes but the Concorde exhibit was fascinating."
  • "Nice museum, covering the history of plane production over the past 120 years. At the center of attraction is the last flying Concorde, which divine a separate hangar."
  • "The most interesting part is the part of the Concorde plane."
  • "An absolutely fantastic day out. Lots to see and a great selection of plane's going right back. Finally, you get too see the Concord and you get a good look inside as well."
  • "Really interesting and varied exhibits. Hands on bits for the kids."
  • "You can get food and there is a small memorabilia shop there. Tickets are very reasonably priced and last a year."
  • "Two hangers, one a fantastic Concorde Exhibition and the chance to go on the last Concorde to ever fly which is brilliant."

Cons:

  • "The whole place is very clean and well organised. Free large car park. Its worth going even just to step aboard a real Concorde aircraft."
  • "a lovely concorde no. 07 museum and aviation museum in Filton, Bristol to visit all here!!"
  • "The biggest disappointment was that all of the simulators were out of order and my son was really looking forward to it."
  • "The que for it was annoying as they seemed to hold us up and delay each group visiting the concord for no reason, other than that we had a great time."
  • "Very disappointed. Drove 150 miles with my family and 84 year-old mother just to see Concorde only to be informed when we arrived that a private party had rented the hangar for the day and we could not go in."
  • "When we went into the museum the flight simulator wasn't working and hadn't been for a while."
  • "I feel there could’ve been more exhibits in terms of aircraft and more on the role Filton played throughout its history."
  • "There are also other fascinating exhibits covering helicopters, vehicles, missiles and planes. There is a cafe, picnic area and gift shop as well."

Family and Children's Activities

Pros:

  • "More than 110 years of developments, well presented and enough activities to keep the kids interested."
  • "This was so interactive for the kids, lots of different things to do that I've not seen anywhere before."
  • "A good selection of food at reasonable prices is available in the restaurant."
  • "Had a fabulous visit. The red arrows simulator was great, the main museum was much more interesting than expected but, of course, Concord was the real star."
  • "The play park is great, what a fabulous design!"
  • "A wonderful day out, we saw planes from WW1 & 2, life size displays of boats, emergency helicopters, transport helicopters right through to old cars & trams."
  • "Great place to while away a couple of hours on a wet day. Informative boards with each of the displays could get quite technical, but I like that."
  • "There is also outdoor seating in the open or under a small canopy."

Cons:

  • "I think they could've done much more for kids personally."
  • "Only need about the afternoon to see it all, play area is small but lovely, shaped like an plane to play on and a small helicopter."
  • "It would be great to have a few things for kids to touch and play with in the museum."
  • "We will be going back without a doubt to experience the simulators but I don't think I'll take our 5 year old as there's really very little going on to keep her amused."
  • "This would have been an easy 5 stars but the prices were ridiculous. Having checked prices since I got home things were at least doubled compared to elsewhere."
  • "We had a great time on his summer holiday visiting this wonderful place."
  • "I was like a kid at Christmas!!!"
  • "We had a great day out here last summer on the first day out our holiday. Now, we use a free years membership just to stop off for an hour and stretch our legs."

Cons:

  • "Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful."
  • "Staff really friendly and were happy to answer any questions you gave them."
  • "The staff were lovely and very informant helpful, felt very welcomed."
  • "The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Going on Concorde and getting an introduction from a retired Concorde engineer was great to see."
  • "It was £17 to get in but you can go back anytime within a year for free on the same ticket. Fantastic place."
  • "The ticket for an adult is 17 pounds which seems a bit hight; however it's valid for an entire year so you can visit multiple times."
  • "The entrance could be better signed because we missed it after passing the last 'brown sign' on the preceding roundabout from Bristol towards the Mall."
  • "Staff are really well informed on the displays and the facilities are great."
