Animal Attractions
Pros:
"If your child loves animals I definitely recommend the zookeeper's experience."
"Along with the butterflies, you can visit the animals. There is plenty to see. Chickens, pygmy goats, cows, pigs, guinea pigs, meerkats and sooo much more."
"We really appreciated that most of the animals were rescues, and they seemed to be very well taken care of."
"You get to feed (prepare the food) and clean lots of wonderful animals - skunks, tortoise, raccoon, meerkats, reptiles, otter and spent some time with the donkeys."
"All the animals seem well cared for and the prices are relatively reasonable considering the current col situation."
"The best bit is feeding the animals, the cows and sheep were my particular favourite."
"My Partner and I visited on Monday 28th February. To say We are impressed isn't enough. It was fantastic. We especially enjoyed seeing the Cockatiels and Budgies plus rescued chickens."
"Butterfly World is a favourite with children, because not only can they enjoy seeing butterflies and moths, but there are also a number of other animals they can see and feed."
Cons:
"We weren't able to visit the whole farm due to [wheelchair accessibility] reasons. But we weren't mad about it as many enclosures were very small, especially the raccoon and other mammals."
"Animals are escaping left right and centre. One of them a peacock was even being quite indimitating."
"Animals have horrible living conditions. Some have an ok space like the butterflies and chickens but the racoon and other mammals had no space at all and made me feel sad π’ these animals need to be moved to somewhere that can accommodate more space for them."
"Some of the housing areas weren't the greatest and it was kinda sad to see some of the animals cooped up in small housing."
"Been coming for a long time but this is the last time over priced for what it is now.. smells awful around the animals (never used 2)."
"I absolutely loved it here standing with and feeding the sheep was amazing they are adorable as were the cows and in fact all the animals staff were friendly we done the reptile experience and Racoon talk and both times was great interaction and informative...I loved walking among the butterflies and birds aswell was a great price too very good value"
"A little rough round the edges but great fun. The best bit is feeding the animals, the cows and sheep were my particular favourite."
"Facilities are in very poor condition throughout. The polytunnel where sheep were houses was ripped open and flapping around in the wind."
Staff and Service
Pros:
"Absolutely brilliant place full of passionate, helpful and kind staff."
"Had a great chat with Chloe who works there, she showed us lots of interesting things, was really knowledgeable and loves the animals."
"Friendly staff, go early enough to spend the day there."
"Staff were all really knowledgeable and friendly too."
"I was very impressed. I arrived at about 10:30 with my 21 month old. We were greeted by the friendly staff and given an explanation of directions to see various areas."
"My Partner and I visited on Monday 28th February. To say We are impressed isn't enough. It was fantastic. We especially enjoyed seeing the Cockatiels and Budgies plus rescued chickens."
"I believe this is Studley Grange ...Butterfly world and Garden centre ....what a fantastic place to visit ....met friends for breakfast ...which by the way very nice indeed lovely staff and very clean ...super shops to look round ...I actually want to go back and see more very soon ...love it !!!!"
"Friendly, informative and helpful staff. Plenty of space indoor and outdoor to explore. Visited with a toddler on a wet and windy day. All day ticket made this visit great value....we went around a couple of times. Definitely be visiting again with friends."
Cons:
"Very run down and grumpy staff (apart from the lovely lady looking after the fish!)."
"A lovely day spoilt by an aggressive, argumentative member of staff."
"Softplay very busy, didn't feel very clean parents not watching there own children."
"Tried the butterfly cafe staff awful no personality felt like it was a problem me and my friend and our children being in there.limited food menu."
"I have Been before to softplay and the big cafe no issue but on Friday it was a shambles! Rude staff ! Not sure I will be retuning which is sad."
"Great idea for a place, terribly done! The place needs a complete Refurb. It's like a shantytown. Was nice for my boys to see the butterflies and the animals, unfortunately I noticed one koi with a severe infection, must have been like it for weeks, causing I deep wound by its dorsal fin. I don't know how staff could not notice."
"We only had a very quick walk around the garden centre, we were mainly here for food. They are dog friendly, even in the cafe. Mugs etc in cafe were stained and cheese scones weren't very nice, but it was fairly cheap and being able to take the dog was a bonus"
"A little rough round the edges but great fun. The best bit is feeding the animals, the cows and sheep were my particular favourite."
Facilities and Maintenance
Pros:
"Absolutely beautiful place to visit. I didn't realise how big it is. So many different shops."
"Absolutely amazing place. Big car park. Wheelchair access. Massive shop area, nail bar, hairdressers, small shops. 2 restaurants."
"Good place to garden shop, aquatics and many other things too."
"They also have on site cafe, toilets, gift shops, garden centre and a number of other facilities."
"We went to the butterfly world today and enjoyed the inside butterfly house and reptiles."
"Also on the same site are a cafe and restaurant, a soft play centre and a garden centre."
"They have a cafe and eating area with huge garden center and other quaint things."
"Knocking off a star because it was quite run down in general, and there wasn't much info to start with about what to expect."
"What a very strange place this is. It's huge, the whole thing, with the farm (including outside fields), a cafe and restaurant, independent shops and garden stuff, even selling live fish and jacuzzis etc. A map would've been a great addition."
"We agreed it was a 'dive' - not sure it can have changed much since the 80's/90's; very run down."
"The refurbishment is nearly done. The new shop looks nice. I had the Sunday roast and to be honest it wasnβt great."
"Waste of time and money. The whole thing is dilapidated and unprofessional."
"Lovely place to spend a few hours, although I would recommend not going on a hot day as once you are outside there is no real shade and it is really hot in the butterfly section."
"The only good things: they allow you to feed animals on your own. And there are plenty of hand-washing stations."
"Facilities are in very poor condition throughout. The polytunnel where sheep were houses was ripped open and flapping around in the wind."
Value and Pricing
Pros:
"Not the biggest place but great for the price, if you rush around and just look at things it won't take long, if you take an interest in reading about the things you are looking at a great trip out."
"Great place to bring children. Big part of it it's outside, so come when weather is good. Lots more animals than expected, we fed the goats and they are so sweet."
"Great place to visit with little ones, my 2yr old really enjoyed seeing the butterfly's & farm animals."
"The experience is much like a zoo with many animals thst you wouldn't normally see, such as meerkats, otters and alpacas, along with a close up experience with farm animals including sheep, pigs, chickens and much much more."
"We've visited a few times now and they've expanded the entrance area and altered the butterfly walk through so it's even better."
"A lovely little place with a good variety of animals including exotics. Entry for a family of four is only Β£25 which represents very good value."
Cons:
"Itβs an all day ticket but realistically itβs probably only 1-2 hours visit so quite expensive. Β£25 for 2 adults and a 2 year old, plus Β£1 for a small bag of goat feed."
"Love Butterfly World and you can tell a lot of effort has gone in (since Covid-19 regulations hit) to make it a more enjoyable setting, but my word...I think we spent just shy of Β£80 for tickets, food and soft play."
"It's a good place to come when the weather is bad as there's indoor animals to look at. However it is on the small side and some of the areas are a bit tired looking. I am not sure it's value for money, but at the same time it's not a rip off."
"What more can I say, that other 1 star reviews haven't. It is revolting. Animals all look miserable, the place looks like its under constant home DIY, it's just shabby and weird. More UPVC front doors than you could imagine possible. And don't even get me onto the cost of witnessing all this misery."
"The place was beautiful, clean, and they had gel and sinks throughout the different areas. There is a paddoc area where you can feed and pet farm animals (sheep, goats, cows, and goats)."
"Butterly world itself was a lovely family day out and all the kids enjoyed the animals and being able to feed them. However, the cafe. Be prepared to take your own food with you as the prices are extortionate compared to the portion size."
"Lovely little low budget farm and butterfly place for kids of all ages absolutely loved it would definitely go back again. Nice little hidden gem of a place staff super friendly as well which makes it even better βΊοΈ"
"Garden centre is OK. Little expensive I would say. Lovely coffee and cake in cafe but again expensive. Also stuff rude as chasing us out of cafe part so they could close cafe at 5pm to go home when garden centre was open much later"
