  • "Lovely staff, yummy food, expect me back soon!"

Cons:

  • "Tick box customer service, doesn't equal service excellence. They said the right things 'are you ready to order', 'have you finished' but when I say the staff are unfriendly, they are UNFRIENDLY and UNAPPROACHABLE."
  • "Service by staff was shockingly bad!"
  • "The service was as slow as a snail."
  • "I didn't find the staff very friendly or helpful."
  • "The manager so so rude and all the staff seemed afraid of her."
  • "The service was disappointingly slow, the food was mediocre; we had 4 eggs between us and not a runny yolk to be seen."
  • "Appalling customer service. Dirty glasses brought out repeatedly, despite clean glasses being requested on 2 separate occasions."

Cleanliness

Pros:

  • "Tables were well spaced out and cleaned after every use."
  • "Cleanliness on point and all in all a pleasant experience."
  • "The cafe itself was very clean and the seating was very comfortable."

Cons:

  • "Tile floor looked as it it hadn't been cleaned in a month!"
  • "The place was dirty with uncovered un-refrigerated cakes in the window that were not just for display purposes."
  • "Cutlery and crockery were not cleaned to an adequate standard - with visible filth."
  • "The cleanliness of the place was shocking."
  • "The toilets were unhygienic with toilet paper rolls on the floor and a stench of piss."
  • "The floor had black fluff that had collected around the skirting and behind the door."
  • "Nice place on the surface but if you look closely it is dirty and falling apart."

Value

Pros:

  • "Great concept - if you roll 6, you can get money off your food and drinks orders."
  • "Portion sizes could be a little more generous (like the salads are) for the price but the quality and taste was good."
  • "Prices were very good, waiting time was approx 25 mins, not bad for a drop in, especially as it was a busy Saturday evening."

Cons:

  • "A total rip off."

  • "Really cute cafe, but mega overpriced like £4.50 for what I consider to be an pathetic slice of cake."
  • "We also noticed that they charge an extra £5 per person for ‘eating in’."
  • "Food ok, I ordered a Diet Coke and was given a glass that had been filled up with a bottle that had already been opened and it was flat... They are charging £2.95 for this which is absolutely appalling as they don't give you the full bottle."

Accessibility

Pros:

  • "It's quite small but very quaint and fits with the character of York perfectly."
  • "Highly recommended café on 4 floors of a very old and characterful building."
  • "Especially loved that the staff let us know the toilets were upstairs before we ordered, as my Mum has some additional accessibility needs due to her arthritis; it meant we could make an educated choice about the best place for us."

Cons:

  • "No WiFi or phone service inside."
  • "Only down side to the place, it was a long climb up steep stairs for an 81 year old."
  • "The toilets are up several flights of stairs."
  • "With the extra seating being upstairs it's not practical for wheelchair users or pushchair."
  • "Anyone not great on their feet might not welcome the ascent to the toilets on the 2nd floor but thankfully we were OK with that."
  • "They do have 2 other cafes that might be more accommodating."
  • "Squished in and close together, stupidly close. Damp walls & uncomfortably seating."
