Food Quality

Pros:

  • "Had a delicious lamb stew served with bread and butter."
  • "Had the Sunday Roast! Was lovely, the beef was melt in the mouth, veggies lovely and fresh."
  • "Perfectly seared fillet steak with real chips."
  • "Food was absolutely delicious."
  • "Absolutely lovely food, 100% compliments to the chef."
  • "A vast menu with delicious home cooked food."
  • "One of the best home cooked meals we have had in a long time!"

Cons:

  • "However, the food is always just rubbish, and really expensive too."
  • "Poor food, we had a chicken pie and chips, the pie was like a soup with chicken pieces and the chips weren't cooked properly!"
  • "Sunday Lunch was more like frozen 1980’s TV dinner."
  • "Most pubs would be embarrassed to send out food like this."
  • "Unfortunately, even for basic pub grub it was badly cooked and not great quality: hard, chewy sausages; the pie was runny brown water with some lumps of beef in with a solid lump of shortcrust pastry on top."
  • "£16 pounds for a bad scampi."
  • "Two of us ordered steaks at £17 each and one was inedible 80 percent fat!"

Service

Pros:

  • "Really friendly welcome, food was good, craft IPA was good, service was good and location is great."
  • "10 out of 10 for the extremely friendly and helpful staff."
  • "Service was good and very friendly."
  • "Staff were great and the view across the Dee Valley is simply stunning."
  • "Staff were really friendly."
  • "Service superb."
  • "The staff were very attentive and friendly throughout our visit."

Cons:

  • "Waited a long time for starter and one main meal came out at same time. afters another good 30 mins had to ask for our mains."
  • "The service was a little slow to say the least."
  • "It's been a long time since we have had service so bad and very average food, staff rushed off their feet."
  • "It took nearly an hour for the food to arrive and it wasn't particularly busy (Wednesday evening)."
  • "Service very slow, others complaining. Meals came, parts missing, popadomes etc from the curries, cheese missing off the garlic bread."
  • "We booked for 6pm but called to ask if we could get there earlier & arrived at 5.10 this evening, after 30 minutes we had not even been offered drinks despite 3 tables who arrived after us having been served."
  • "No one came to us to ask for our drinks order but would happily take orders from bigger tables."

Location & Atmosphere

Pros:

  • "Lovely setting, friendly pub, fabulous meal, hot plates."
  • "We sat outside and that's easily the most beautiful spot I've ever had food."
  • "Lovely pub with a good atmosphere and an amazing view on the river and the fields."
  • "Great dog friendly pub with a beautiful view of the river and valley."
  • "Lovely place with fabulous views."
  • "The Pub is situated in the most beautiful location."
  • "What an amazing view. Sitting on the terrace eating lunch in the sunshine was glorious."

Cons:

  • "This pub is all on a large hill face no access for disabled."
  • "The only down side was that it was that autumnal time of the year when eating and drinking outside tends to attract wasps so that we ventured inside off the terrace."
  • "Very tight turn into the car park due to stone walls - a motorhome won't make it."
  • "Toilet facilities quite poor for a large pub with outside seating area. There is only 1 toilet for each. Female one was very small, so if disabled, would find this a struggle."
  • "Only reason I'm not awarding 5 stars is because the interior of the pub is a little worn and dated."
  • "Firstly, if you like your car then don't use their carpark, I witnessed countless normal family cars scraping their bumpers trying to enter and exit the poorly maintained steep track up to the carpark."
  • "The menu is pretty uninspiring pub grub but rather expensive: £15+ for an awful 'pie'."

Value

Pros:

  • "The food was tasty and good value for the portion sizes."
  • "Food and drinks great and very reasonable."
  • "A reasonably priced meal in a lovely setting with a varied menu."
  • "All for around fifty quid (worth every penny)."
  • "Lovely staff, lovely views all at a reasonable price."
  • "Good food served and after a 18 miles of a 29 mile hike, the bowl of chips and a pint went down a treat."
  • "Good honest home cooked food. Full of taste and good portions."

Cons:

  • "Really expensive too."
  • "Cheese sandwich nearly £9 nothing special very overpriced would not return."
  • "£7 for the kids' cheesy pasta didn't taste much of cheese."
  • "£14 for a Chicken burger was literally some breaded chicken in an empty bap."
  • "Nice view staff friendly. Unfortunately very overpriced for roast, more like a child portion for £15 2 roadies and 3 small slices of meat."
  • "£16 pounds for a bad scampi."
  • "Two of us ordered steaks at £17 each and one was inedible 80 percent fat!"
