Theatre Experience

Pros:

  • "The theatre is comfortable and very spacious."
  • "Beautiful Art Deco theatre in the same building as the famous savoy hotel."
  • "The theatre isn't vast so there's a good view from virtually all the seats."
  • "The theatre itself is larger than it seems on the outside, as the main auditorium is actually underground."
  • "Theatre is unusual in being inverted; you walk down two levels for the Stalls, one level for the Circle."
  • "The Savoy Theatre is a lovely old building, located along The Strand, with lots of history and still puts on some great shows like the new Andrew Lloyd Webber production of Sunset Boulevard."
  • "The theatre had great seating. And the atmosphere was great!"

Cons:

  • "To get to our sears was a nightmare though. 4 floors of tight stairs up and down...not doable for a disabled person."
  • "Like most theatres the seats are cramped with little leg room."
  • "The only other issue was the heat, the full theatre means the the upper circle gets extremely hot."
  • "One of the worst theaters I have been in London. There is no ventilation, during the musical there was no air to breathe and it was extremely hot."
  • "The theatre is extremely cramped where we sat in dress circle."
  • "The theatre is very nice but the grand circle is very steep."
  • "The entire auditorium was warm and stuffy throughout the performance with very little fresh air."

Staff and Service

Pros:

  • "Friendly efficient staff on doors."
  • "The staff were really helpful and welcoming."
  • "Staff went out of their way to accommodate."
  • "The staff were all very friendly and helpful."
  • "Staff were helpful and snacks were outrageously priced as usual but all adds to the theatre experience."
  • "The staff was also patient, attentive, approachable and professional."
  • "The theatre and all its staff were just wonderful to my wife and I all evening."

Cons:

  • "Terrible drinks service - two out of three bar staff at the stalls bar were unable to open a wine bottle."
  • "Staff was extremely rude treated like cattle!"
  • "Service generally wasn't great, with everyone being cramped in waiting to enter the auditorium with no staff present to open the doors."
  • "The staff who manned our part were so unhappy."
  • "Staff is rude and disrespectful. We arrived on time and were told we could go to the toilet."
  • "Absolutely disgusting service. I was not late and the queue was very long."
  • "The service was by far the worst part of the experience."

Accessibility and Comfort

Pros:

  • "The venue is very easy to find and once you walk in you literally go up a few steps then you are level to the balcony."
  • "All seats appeared to have decent views."
  • "Not a bad seat in the theatre and very cool considering the theatre is pretty much all underground."

  • "The seats had good legroom and were comfortable."
  • "Small and intimate theatre so you feel very close to the stage."

Cons:

  • "The Grand Circle area of the Theatre, which did have some restricted veiwing to the stage itself. I found to be very uncomfortable, very cramped with lack of space - serious lack of leg room."
  • "The theatre was quite narrow and your view may get blocked if a large person sits in front of you."
  • "The views of the full stage are obstructed from only 15 rows back in the stalls due to a very low hanging dress circle."
  • "The height of the circle is very noticeable from rear stalls as it cuts off the view of the top of stage."
  • "Our seats in the Grand Circle were very cramped with very little leg room."
  • "The seats were also very narrow."
  • "Seating in extremely uncomfortable, ladies restroom is old and doesn’t seem to be cleaned very often."

  • "The service in the Ambassadors Lounge was exemplary."
  • "Toilets were plentiful and clean."
  • "Nice clean toilets."
  • "The bathrooms were easy to find and very clean."

Cons:

  • "The bar is a bit of a tight squeeze but if you order drinks for the 2nd act you can just walk in and pick the drinks up."
  • "The bathrooms are small as in all these old theatre buildings and there are not many places for you to wait when you get inside."
  • "Toilets were not nice at all.. considering the type of place you are in and in London kind of expect toilet roll in the all toilets."
  • "First off the toilets are unisex and there are just two toilets, so expect to queue for a long time if you are caught short."
  • "In the toilet on the ground floor, 3 toilets were out of use. This is really poor and caused ridiculous queues for the women."
  • "The toilets left something to be desired, old and smelly."
  • "The bars had almost no seating areas."
